Ok, He wants a truce but wants to be in charge.. Uh, yeah what about sharing control or something like that? No, IMHO Megatron was NOT being humble, the truce he offered was bullshit unless he got his way. And he was being a cocky prick with his last statement.
Optimus did what he had to do against a tyrannical individual that wanted to rule.

Sentinel killed Optimus's oldest friend. And didn't even have the courtesy to let him say goodbye. That bastard.

And Megatron killed Optimus in ROTF. Is he supposed to let that go unpunished?

Agreed x100. I just don't see why its so hard for people to accept what happened. I'd like to see how others would have reacted if there mentor murders thier best frined, as well as betrayed everything they stood for. And i don't know wabout you, but i'm not so willing to accept a truce from someone that also offed one of my frineds, as well as me!! sorry, but there's no trusting someone of that nature.

P.S., oh, and Cyber Bishop, I think there's a slight spelling mistake in thw thread title good buddy.

I have no problems with OP's behaviour.

MY problem is with how little Megatron got to do with his awesome new Alt. mode.

Prime absolutely did the right thing by killing Megs immediately. Megs wasn't expecting it, and Prime needed that advantage since he had already lost an entire arm and had his other speared by Sentinel. He saw the opportunity and he took it because he might not have won a protracted fight. And I doubt the remaining autobots still could have taken Megatron down themselves. Or if they could have, it'd have cost them dearly.

While I haven't read the book, the ending there does sound intriguing and I would like to actually read it to find out the differences. But Megatron, portrayed in the movie as he was, needed to die. There would have been no peace unless it was on his terms. He clearly shows that just before Prime slags him.

I don't have a problem with what Optimus did.

It was the prudent thing to do, really.

However, it's the portrayal of the Autobots at large and Optimus in particular that is grating to me.

Sure, the Autobots fight for freedom and the protection of humans, but when they are better, more efficient killers than their evil counterparts (despite being massively outnumbered), it makes the whole war (and movie) seem like an exercise in "who gets the coolest death scene?" with no suspense whatsoever; do we ever seriously believe the good guys are in peril? 50 Decepticons fall to every Autobot casualty (I didn't actually calculate this ratio, by the way).

I found myself wishing more Autobots died....that's a weird thought, hoping more good guys die.

The saddest I felt over any death in these movies was Scorponok since he actually was one tough S.O.B. and he seemed so happy just crawling around in the desert.

Actually, i believe he didn't let Sentinel kill Optimus, because he knew he would need him in order for the remaining Autobots to go along with the plan. Megs was in a weakened state. Wether or not the remaining Autobots could have defented him isn't nessasarly the point. The point is the war would still rage, and Megs is in no condition to fight. (though i still think the remaing autobots would have had no problem defeting him in his weakened state).

Agreed. To be honest, if it wasn't for the pics of him on set last year, i don't think i would have even known he had a tanker trailer. Would have been cool to have some sort of "show down" with both prime and Megs in truck modes!

I think I'm more bothered by sentinel's behavior than optimus's.
I was hoping for a sympathetic, redeemable villain, but that's not what we got. They tried very hard to make sentinel seem corrupt and bad. Killing Ironhide, his whole speech about humans. They made him out to be a turd. That was more upsetting than anything else. He was pretty much a full on decepticon, not an autobot with a different view point. That would have been interesting.

You know, at first I was pissed about Megatron dying, but I've come around to realize that as the movies played out (different from the books) Megatron did need to be killed. For all the reasons that have been mentioned, but to me the one that really stood out was payback. Megatron stabbed and shot Optimus in the back in Revenge of the Fallen. At the end of that movie, Optimus let him live, and didn't chase after him and Starscream. So Prime learned from his mistake, and this time, Megaron is dead and gone for good, and Bayverse went with him. I believe his death was as much a point for Bay to make that he was done with these movies as it was for the character to come to a close. I still would have liked to see a redeemed Megatron, but now I realize that that's impossible.

That's more of what I was expecting too. That he would have some kind of redemption in the end. Realize the errors in his logic, or at the very end assist the autobots in finishing the fight. But he was just waaay out there. I don't even like the toy of him anymore I hated him so much.

In his mind, Sentinel tried his best to save the entire race and did so by choosing Cybertronians over humans and making them cattle. We use animals to sustain ourselves, why would Sentinel be a douche for doing the same? Sentinel is a douche for his attitude towards his autobots. Optimus took the moral highground in the only way he knows, killing whatever stands in his path.

Megatron tries the same thing as Sentinel, but has one HUUUUUUGE criminal record. Honestly, can we expect Optimus to hug, kiss and make up with Megatron?

as far as the book well, that was the book and personally i think the ending was due to M.B. wanting to bring the franchise to a conclusion than change the book. hence all the main deaths.

I agree, but its Just like all the ROTF hate/plot threads weeks before.

But now that i think about it, bay did his job more than ever. We have several threads concerning Prime, Megs and Sentinel. There was obviously a conection that was made with the characters if were all so pationite on the behaviour and deaths.

Well if you remember the first movie, when Bumblebee got captured by S7, all the other Autobots were there when it happened. So if they had the same mindset as Sentinel (kill all that stand in our way) then they would have just killed the humans right there but instead allowed Bumblebee to get captured with no human loses. They allowed him to be sacrificed so they could show they weren't hostile towards humans. They could have also killed the humans that sided with Megatron in the third movie. But as Autobots they protected the humans because they are on their planet and thus want to form a bond with them. Sentinel made a pact with Megatron thus his "Autobotness" deminished and he could basically be considered a Decepticon. He killed one of his own, Ironhide aka a Cybertronian, in order to 'save' those exact Cybertronians. The Autobots never wanted to destroy Cybertron, they just did not agree with how the Decepticons were going to 'save' their home planet.

Think of what war is. There is a good side and bad side. Usually the bad side will destroy anything that gets in their way in order to live out their master plan, where as the good side will defend all of those who the bad side happen to be attacking.

You even remember that much of the lines? I hardly remember any big lines and dialogues.

But you're right, they both needed to be eliminated.

I haven't heard many people complain on why Megatron died, just that the final 'fight' was too damn short. It's literally just 10 seconds of Optimus hacking Megatron apart. Regardless of Megatron's condition, that's an incredibly anti-climatic close.

But you're right, they both needed to be eliminated.

I have a friend that manages a theater.. I watched the scene 5 times and wrote the lines down..

I think it worked out well. Megatron was an intergalactic dictator that couldn't be trusted. It was his time.
