My gut's telling me that that tail might not be his actual arm, may instead be a weapon that attaches to the arm, covering his hand and wrist, as the prototype pics showed a seam that runs down the middle of the tail and suggests that it splits in half to open up.

Yeah, the back view clearly shows it just clips onto the arm. Also, I'm not really sure what the problem with it is- I mean, heck, I don't think there's any pictures of Paddles' robot mode at all, at least in official fiction. It's not like they're deviating from the source material or anything.

Im no fan of the asymmetrical look. The only cases I accept it is when they have a blaster for one arm such as Shockwave or Omega supreme. But beast wars style "tail whips" are just stupid to me. (AOE Scorn) While they might not be deviating from source material, I dont want them to deviate from tradition. The fact that Paddles doesnt have any pictures of his robot mode is what makes me comfortable shoehorning him in with my FP dinobots. He will go nicely with the twin raptors and Skar if somebody makes one. And yes I totally missed the back image showing the tail clipped on to his back. A bit lazy (hence universe dinobots tail weapon) but I can deal with it clipped to his back.

The claw-like end tip of the tail is making me think that it's like some kind of big energy blaster with a huge barrel, like BW Transmetal Megatron's tail blaster weapon (which was and still is an awesome weapon, btw):

I preordered triton. Paddles will be my only planet x dinobot. I dont really consider him to be FOC because they are pretty much working with a blank canvas so anything goes for the character on a classics shelf. Otherwise Im sticking with fansproject for the dinobots.

Well, just ordered Planet X Grimlock from Kapow. Was trying to wait for him to go on sale, but I just couldn't resist. He'll fit in nicely with the FP Dino's.
