Premium Series Movie Toys
Yeah it really sucks. Although I really do look forward to Prime's new figure, and possibly Megatron, Starscream and Ironhide. I don't have a Starscream mold yet, and my current Ironhide is way too loose in the joints. I'd like to see if these 'premium' figures are really that premium.

I don't mean to be sarcastic here... but am I sensing a bit of buyer's remorse? Let's face it, Hasbro's been doing this since the beginning of the Transformers franchise, so what's the difference now? Let's take, for example, BW Dinobot; he's been repainted/remolded so many times, it's not even funny:
Original release => Takara's release => Hasbro's 10th Anniversary => Takara's 10th, not to mention all the repaints/slight remolds into different characters (a la 08 Bumblebee to Cliffjumper)
It's economically reasonable for Hasbro to milk the molds for all they're worth (see: Dinobot again, Energon Arcee, etc.), and we're obviously going to have hindsight-bias every time as well. But, I doubt that Hasbro pre-planned the premium line months in advance. The only reason they're having a premium line, I'd say, is based upon how well the original line did, and that's nobody's fault but our own.
All this hostility is annoying and reminiscent of many fan-overreactions of the recent past. Hasbro's not making anybody buy these, and, frankly, we should be glad that demand for Transformers is high enough to warrant this line.
Personally, I held out (aka was broke at the time) and I'm looking forward to getting a couple of these.

I agree. Although I hve the Ironhide, Ratchet, Leader Megs nad Prime mode, I sincerely would like to get the Premium Prime, and possibly the others (except for Ratchet). I'm glad to see Hasbro try to make a better figure out of an already great figure. Seriously, how many Primes have guns as their primary weapons? And Hasbro didn't know that scene was going to be in the movie I hear, maybe that's part of the reason why they didn't include the sword on the original. Nice to see the most badass Prime weapon in ages (apart from Cybertron Prime's super mode) be recognized in an official toy.

That's the point many are trying to make, isn't it? That Hasbro is repainting and milking the franchise for more money. They aren't going to be doing anythign new.
It's ironic really. The only people supporting their efforts will mainly be adult collector's with money. I find it hard to believe parents are going to pay for another of essentialy the same toy just because of a different paint job, or if many kids would care.
im a kid and i care

they should have done it in the first place, instead of releasing the toys we have now.
I knew that would be said. So you think they should have gone back in time and put a sword on Prime when they didn't even know about it?

well, they could have released the sword as an accessory, ala that custom one floating on eBay a month or two ago...

Hasbro doesn't do accessories, plus that one on e-bay was like $80. My point anyways is that Hasbro could make a figure, then people could suggest an improvement, and Hasbro does it for the same price, yet somebody will complain about it. Well I guess what they shouldn't think of improving their products anymore.

It kind of seemed like Hasbro didn't know the TF movie would do this well. Almost like they were hesitant and now they want to totally milk it.

I see your point, but "HASBRO DOESN"T DO ACCESSORIES" then how do you explain all that spy gear, blaster, and tech toy crap
It's nothing new, but still a majority complaint that Hasbro will do three plus repaints on a figure, with the last one usualy highlighting the details. You'd think after all the years of experience they have in this field, they could just get it right the first time instead of bleeding out product.
Now as for the accessory issue, and follow me here, I know an upgrade kit would just sit on the shelf, since they'd make more of those than the initial figure. But wouldn't it be a nice mail away item, something one could get with say ROBOTPOINTS, which would expidite the sales of some shelf warmers as kids and collectors alike must have that real cool thing on the last page of the checklist
Upgrade kits work, just look at the MP line, simplify it, and you have a multi level possitive. You say they don't do it, I say maybe they should

Like many here, I feel a bit slighted that Hasbro waits until now to really improve the paint applications of movie figures that have been out for over half a year now. The problem lies in how many of 1 mould can you have before it become serious overkill? I already have Final Battle and the G1 repaint of Jazz and I really don't have any ambition to pick up the "definitive" version of a figure I'm pretty lukewarm with as it is.
I'm fine with repaints when it comes to different characters, but to say "oh, here's that version of [insert character's name] that you've wanted all along and already own a variation or 2 of" is the kind of thing that makes people less enthusiastic and less and less likely to eat up whatever the company shovels our way. It's like a musician re-releasing an album they released back in the '70s; first there is the remaster, then there is the album with bonus tracks, then there is the special edition remixing with bonus DVD, etc....eventually, even the most hard core of fans ask themselves why they bother after awhile.
As it stands, I likely will pick up Leader Megs if I come across him since the original just never impressed me enough to pluck down $40; this one might.
The others? I see little improvement in the others to justify spending more money, especially when it comes to Leader Prime : you end up spending another $40 just to get a sword?
I'd rather use my money to get some more Alternators.

I think they thought it would do well, but not so exceptionally and that’s what they are doing, milking it.
