IDW and Hasbro Beast Wars Packs? A Proposal for Hasbro with fan Feedback. Warning spoilers.

Postby skywarp-2 » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:29 am

Dear Hasbro and IDW Publications:

Here is a proposal I have for both of your companies, Hasbro and IDW... Please release Beast Wars packs based off the widely popular IDW Beast Wars comics series, with collector friendly packaging. You can easily import the Beast Wars toys and Mold from Takara Tomy Japan, and add to them really good Paint Applications for mass release. This idea would supplement the Beast Wars fans need for new figures, and you can release them with special IDW comics inside as well. Similar to the "Marvel legends" License you now hold.

We here on seibertron.com now know that Hasbro employees and executives regularly browse our forums and chat sites looking for fan feedback and ideas to help in your production of particular toylines. In some cases you have answered our cries, like with the "Super Metal Finish" toys you have released through various mass retail chain outlets.

There are many molds of Japanese design and characters in Japan that have been produced, sadly they have never made their way to our shores through a mass retail release, either due to cost constraints of producing a new cartoon series, or new directions taken by the Transformers Franchise. I offer a solution to both dilemas, comic book media and simultaneous advertisement all in one package!

This idea is simply a proposal for your company to take and contimplate with great care. Hopefully with enough fan feedback in this thread and maybe others around the internet, your executives and corporation will feel that this idea would be beneficial to your companies marketing and Financial gains. Not to mention the joint marketing and exposure through IDW publications and Diamond distribution in the "comic book store" markets. Please consider this proposal as a request from humble fans who are in desperation and looking forward to receiving new Beast Wars products. Please take our request seriously and into consideration..Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

great idea Skywarp-2! wow, is that the cover for an upcoming IDW Beast Wars comic? Freaking Awesome!!! :x

Hasbro has got to do those comic packs. Please, Please, Please

Also, if they could do that with Beast Wars, why not have them release the classics that they did awhile back with an IDW comic as well. That way I can get my Classics up to speed as well as get a cool comic from IDW at the same time.they could mis and match the releases with 3 from Beast Wars and 3 from Classics, or repaints into classics, or what ever went with an IDW comic.

Whoa, I just thought about a Big Convoy U.S. Release

Hasbro if you do release him call him Maximal Prime! I got my screen name from a suggestion about what to call Big Convoy I read by Skywarp-2 and Waaaghlord months ago, sadly though Maximal Prime was already taken by someone else, so I had to settle for Maximal Primal. :-(

SKYWARP-2, my friend... YOU ARE A GENIUS. :P

though HASBRO...i have another proposal...instead of the ultra-class Lio Convoy that my friend and fellow BW-fans (includes you Maximal Primal ;) and whoever is with us in this thread) are proposing, why not release the Robot Masters version instead?

that way, you can make more profit by selling the RM-22 + comic book at a lower price point.

or even better, you could take Maximal Primal's suggestion and recast Universe Nemesis Prime, paint him again in BW Neo colors, and release him as Hasbro version Big Convoy (or whatever americanized name you will be choosing for him as long as it ain't dorky-sounding :P ) + skywarp-2's suggestion above.

but either way, we hope and sincerely pray that you would take our suggestions into account. now that the movie line hubbub is dying down, you could ride on the hype that IDW's comic book series are creating for all of us fans here and re-release special edition packages of BW figs not released internationally.

Maybe they can use comic accurate colors to give them variety from the prior releases.

that's an excellent idea as well...

Zemper, your passionate plea was wonderfully written, I commend you.. and thanks for the genius part..

I hope we really get to see Beast Wars Comics packs in the near future, especially those Japanese figures not released here domestically through Hasbro. I would get every one of them. I would love them to be in packaging where we could open them up, display the figure, take out the comic and read it, then, place the comic back into a protective plastic pocket in the box, with the figure in a secure molded cradle, and close the box like I was MISB.

that would be great as a collector friendly package with instructions on how to keep the comic safe in the box as well as how to safely remove the figure and place back in the box.. and Marketing it that way as well, since it includes a comic, this "collector theme" would coincide with the packs and certainly garner young children's interest in the comic book industry as well, thus supporting IDW even further, Hasbro would sell out almost instantly!!

I wouldn't worry about the price point of the Voyager sized Leo Prime, it would be okay to get the big version to go along with the big Maximal Prime (Big Convoy) version. But let's take a moment and find out what the fandom would like to see in the first wave shall we:

Hasbro I would like to see in the first wave of Comic Packs, if you ever decide to do them that is, these figure packs please....

Series 1:
1.Leo Prime (circa beast Wars 2), Comic Pack with the comic shown in my first post..
2. A Hardhead(circa beast wars Neo), Comic pack with IDW comic
3. A Magmatron (Circa beast Wars Neo), Packaged in full combined robot mode for cheaper packaging costs, with Comic From IDW
4. A crazybolt (Beast Wars Neo)comic pack with IDW comic

Series 2:
So Far I have 2 Picked out...
1. Maximal Prime (Circa Big Convoy from Beast Wars Neo), packaged in Robot mode with IDW comic.
2. Galvatron (Circa Beast Wars 2), Packaged in Robot Mode, with a Remolded face with No grin, and included with an IDW comic.

you guys have any suggestions??

I think its a Pretty Good idea. They did it also with the Star Wars line at one point. But I think doing it with TF's and using unreleased Figures from a line form Japan is plain genius

They really don't need to spend much in terms of figure molds since they are already made. They might need to modify them a bit to comply with Child Safety laws, but should be relatively easy.

Having an easily opened box, and storage sleeve for the comic would also be awesome. Of curse we can't get away from the twisty ties, but once removed the figure can fit snuggly in a plastic tray, that can be easily removed.

I'd love a Big Convoy, and a Lio convoy release.

I think its a pretty good idea and second it or is it 5th it? ohh whatever, i'm completely for it.

Great Idea Skywarp.

Great Idea Skywarp.

Exactly my point, the storage sleeve for the comic could be detachable or fixed inside the back side of the box as a clear piece of plastic which you just pull up and slide the comic down into.. Yeah, I agree that we'll never be able to escape twistie ties, but, like you said as long as we have a tray that can slide out and fit the toy in snuggly, then it's all good. Thanks for the compliment. I too hope Hasbro would get this thing going, and since they have already done it with their Star wars line up and Gi Joes, as well as Marvel legends, it's pretty much a No Brainer!!

I would like to say that even with the releases being figures we haven't seen yet, they could also do rereleases of one's that have come before in Beast Wars series 1, like Optimus Primal or Megatron, ect.. anything that they felt an IDW comic looks good with, Hasbro do it, please!!!!

Oh yes more BW with comics!
Two passions coming together!
And how about Transformers based on the IDW designs?

And we could have just like the Marvel toys a line that comes with a part of a different bigger toy, so that once we have the line we get a big robot as an extra! :D

And please release tease all in Germany! (at a better price, and more mature, so there will be more interest)

Heck, you can keep the comic, I'll just get that when they release the graphic novel version, but I would love to see figures based on the War Within and Transformers/BW comic books. I'd say they could even use The Gathering as an excuse to re-release some of the older figures like Manterror and B'boom. Redeco/remold them, slap a fancy new bio on 'em and watch the profit rise.

They kinda tried that with all the WWi designs in the Titanium line, and look how that turned out...

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have more Beastformers released/re-issued, but Hasbro are all about making as much $$$ as possible.

Maybe for the 20th anniversary of the Beast Wars lines it could happen.

It sounds great in theory but yet again it is another one of those lines were you either loved them or hated them. So the money making level isn't enough to take a risk on. Although I like leo convey and big convey and wouldn't mind seeing a state side release of each of those figures.

^I'll agree that the Titaniums didn't turn out to well, but I think that was largely due to the materials used to construct the figures in the first place. Very few of the Titanium molds are good to move and transform.

I think what the rest of us are proposing is using conventional methods to release the WWI figures. Then I think that they'll turn out much better. ;)^

Weapon: Reciprocating Laser Cannon
Ideas for VS versions  (Why not?) :
1. Seasaur (part of Magmatron) VS Razorbeast
2. Landsaur VS Grimlock
3. Skysaur VS Snarl

For the Exclusive:
Evolution of an Agent: G1 Ravage, TM Ravage and TM2 Ravage in one (every collectors' dream...)
GENERATION 1: THE EPIC ORIGINS! -Hasbro

"Autobots, Buster Witwicky killed Primus. Kill on sight!" - broadcast from Urban Dead

VS packs are cool.

I wonder if they could do a Mega version of Magmatorn and have him VS TM Megatron. :-? Or just release the regular Magmatron versus Megs.

Other VS:
Spittor VS Ramulus or Polar Claw
Optimus Minor VS Manterror
Wolfang VS TM2 Ravage

Also, the Evolution of the Agent sounds like a cool idea. 8)

AWESOME. pure AWESOME.

maybe Hasbro (are you listening big guys? major $$$ opportunity here heh heh) could *GASP*, secure the rights to the mold of Takara X-9 RAVAGE, release it for US fans, and repackage it together with TM2 Tripredacus Agent.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

the mere thought of it (cheaper X-9 pricing) is driving me NUTS!!!!!!!

I'm definitely down with the idea of a Comic + Figure pack, and not just for Beast Wars, but for pretty much anything else they want ( Okay, maybe NOT Wheelie ). With Classics 2.0/Universe coming back out, I can see comic pack-ins with some of those characters, be it older Marvel comics, DW, or IDW. After all, they do it with Star Wars and G.I. Joe, why not do it with their other mainstay action figure line?

I also have a second request for Marvel, simply because it just popped into my head. Screw Revoltech... let's see some Transformers done in the Marvel Legends style. Non-transforming Transformers, if done right, can sell ( look at Robot Heroes! ) so how about some massively crazy articulated Transformers? Heck, Marvel Legends has Build-A-Figs, can you imagine a Transformers Legends build-a-fig?!

Well all fine and dandy guys, you raised some great ideas and points too!! I think the Beast Wars Gathering idea was a cool way togo, I think it was i_amtrunks who said that it would be too costly for Hasbro to do it.. I disagree to that my friend.... I think that the Hasbro Beast Wars figures and subsequent Lines released in Japan are very much a sought after series, judging by the response to the comics, it's because of the characters in those comics, like Leo Prime, Magmatron, and Galvatron and others that drives the Beast Wars series from IDW on, and on.. there's more then just Optimus Primal and Megatron out there, and IDW showed that to Berast Wars fans, who now have an utter insatiable craving for more and more!! Anyway Hasbro cuts it, fans of the Beasties are finding out that there is more then meets the eye to their favorite series..

Besides, the Gi Joe comic Packs and Star Wars comic packs are geared towards collectors anyhow, so the costs associated with producing them as a "Risk" is just the same, only in this case it's with figures that are highly anticipated and fans have been waiting for a U.S. release for about 10 years!! It's high time that Beast Wars fans get some cool characters in finally... and for those who read my early suggestions on the first wave of Beast Wars toys, here is why I suggested Crazybolt.. as a Prehistoric dinosaur and predessesor to the modern lizard, he rocks!!

oh and here is a treat from the IDW comic front page, Leo Prime and Razorback (Randy)...

oh and here is a treat from the IDW comic front page, Leo Prime and Razorback (Randy)...

we need these comic packs, please Hasbro..

ahahahaha, nice pic 'warp!!!! i've been wanting to do that pose for a long time but sadly i don't have Razorbeast in my collection. whaddya use, Photoshop?

aside from the rough edges on the figs, that's pretty awesome.

Actually in this digibash I used robot masters Lio convoy from the seibertron Gallery and Razorback as well... though the Japanese Beast Wars neo Name for him is oddly called.. Randy.. I used Paint shop pro.. but yeah I was in a hurry so rough edges had ta do.. besides I'm on the East Coast and it's 10 till 1AM, so I'm tired and have to be up at the butt crack O" Dawn for work tomorrow.. I won't be able to dilly and dally too much tomorrow till the end of the day, so I had to respond to the posts left here ..and do a good digibash while at it..

I'm glad you like it.. 8)

I agree, the more posts and attention this thread gets, the mor elikely someone out there in Hasbro may take notice, besides I want to hear fan feedback on this toy line idea sa much as i can get so that Hasbro takes a real serious look at what they have potentially as a cool and marketable toy line!! Heck reissue some classics too.. that ways I can maybe get Thundercracker in comic coloring (still keeping the Botcon one viable) and Skywarp in his own spotlight comic with his figure..

come on guys lets rock the foundations of fan support here.. IDW's Beast Wars comics are really hot!! the art work is fantastic, and even if your a strict machinery guy, help us Beast Wasr fans out.. Hook a brotha up!! I happen to like both machinery transformers and beasties..it's ok to like them both.. ;)^

Your an absolute Genius Skywarp-2! That Razorback and Crazybolt are awesome, who knew that Takara Tomy had released so many sweet molds for their Beast Was Neo line up! I love them! I am sick and tired of playing second fiddle to Japan and their toy market, here in the U.S. we don't do anything as near as cool as they do with their toys! I mean the packaging in our stores are always bubbles which get's severely destroyed when in storage. The excessive Twistie Ties because of corporate greed, disguised as protection for the toy. The poor choice of art work and absense of Tech Specs on some releases. it's a fricken Nightmare!

Hasbro should really up the anty and give us these Comic Packs. That would be a start in changing the U.S. toy market to become a more global and competative collection. I know alot of friends of mine here who only go to stores which sell imports. they avoid the Mass retail chains like the plague. I must say even I was greatly disappointed by the offerings in pacakges the movie toys were released in. Hasbro's packaging has serious issues, and should be redesigned across the entire Transformers line. Generation One toys even had better packaging, considering they were in boxes as aposed to Bubble packaging.

If they do the packaging right, then I can see this series of Comic Packs becoming the next big thing, even bigger then Marvel Legends has been, as long as they do it right. I don't have much faith that even if Hasbro got their butts in gear and decided to do these packages, like you have suggested Skywarp-2, they would get it right. I don't have much hope that Hasbro has the gumption to pull it off, and to be successful at it as well. I'm not downing the concept, just the manufacturer's ability to produce, which we know from the past has always been hit or miss.

Still, I challenge Hasbro to make a go of it! I want to see if they are capable of even pulling it off and making collector's happy at the same time as producing something that could be marketed in the mass retail circuit.
