Strange feelings towards G1's.

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? Please post your's and see others in the Transformers Collections Forum.

When I first began my new collection after seeing the movie this year, my plan was to focus on G1 reissues and the Classics. This was to make up for those great, mostly season 1, charactes that I never had a chance to collect when I was younger.

A funny thing happened as I added a few reissues(Smokescreen, Sideswipe) while diversifying into the movie line: I started to really like the more complex transformations and poseability options the new toys offered over the G1s. The latter exist in my 50+ figure collection now mostly as a nod to nostalgia; don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to add a vintage combiner like the Predacons or Technobots, along with a few more Autobot cars, but the movie line, Alternators, and the recent toy lines have been far more enjoyable to fiddle around with.

I think G1 should have SOME place in every collector's display(especially those of us in our late 20s and older who truly remember the original run of these toys), but you don't have to feel bad if you really feel no need to get them. The recent lines have plenty to offer, truly only lacking the trip down memory lane vibe that G1 offers

I revived the hobby by first only wanting the MP prime..

Then he needed some troops... the alternators... and then I fixed up
the old forgotten G1s with reprolables... bought missing uns.. spare parts...
still lacking some minibots, jets and Reflector.

Then I was hooked .. I moved onto the film characters.

I bought classics starscream just for fiddling... since I couldn't really touch the G1
collection much... But then I had to get the others classic characters too ...
And then what do they make? $500 Thrust which I am not crazy enuff to buy...
well rich enuff! So I can't complete the Classics line! =/

Then I wanted the smallest TFs for the cute factor. =)

Movie stuff I have kept away from... xcept from the Real Gear! =)

Now I wonder if I get hooked on the animated line as well!

*Only* 170 bots so far... So not overly huge collection yet!

Of course I don't collect as an investment, if I wanted to invest my money I would buy stocks or bonds. That's why I take everything out of the box as soon as I get it. In fact that's another thing I have odd feelings about. If I get a figure with a really nice or comemorative box it's almost a burden, I feel compeled to keep the box even though I have no real want or use for it.

heh, i'm the same way. though eventually i get rid of the old boxes to make room for new TFs... or my wife makes me throw boxes out for extra closet space.

I know it's crazy I'll store a box for a year or so, then finally decide to let it go. The only exception being the boxes produced by the TFCC for their box sets. Those suckers are sweet.

QFT. I love the G1 series as a whole, but a lot of the toys were absolutely hideous. Can you say "Ironhide"? :-?

I love G1, but I never collected the toys because i find the ugly.I hunt Masterpiece toyline since it is closest rendition to G1 and real life in my opinion(the classics line tends to be a little bit futuristic).

Ironhide and Rachet are prime examples (no pun intended). They are ugly, they look nothing like the cartoon, and yet I have already pre-ordered them.

I love them all but to each their own!

Personaly, I get upset sometimes with the G1 bricks, take SixShot, 18 million modes and not a single hip swivel, elbow, and worse yet bars holding the lower legs together killing the possiblity for individual knees :???:

So on that note, I do tip my hat to the improvements in toy design! But still...

!!!I WANT THEM!!!

I still get a bit of enjoyment out of collecting and playing with G1 figures.

Get a really good figure with that 80's TF smell and it brings back memories.

Not only that it's fun to get a figure and then track down it's accessories and depending on it's state restore it to the best condition I can get it. Especially with Reprolabels, something that's not necessary on modern figures.

Plus I find some modern figures are completely ruined because of the gimmick of the day.

For some reason if I can get a G1 (encore version) for my collection at a reasonably price I just feel compeled to do so. I'm a sick man.
