Transformers Cybertron help!

Postby Kondorsigma » Mon Apr 11, 2011 7:35 pm

Hi all!

I'm interested in collecting Transformers Cybertron figures. I've only seen some Cybertron episodes. Are there certain figures that you recommend more than others? Which should I stay away from? What are your top 10 Cybertron figures? Any advice is welcomed.

thanks!

Dunno about "Top 10", BUT...

Without a doubt, Cybertron / Galaxy Force Leader Prime is one of the best Optimus Prime figures to come out, period.

- It's got a simple but satisfying transform
- It's got a solid, powerful look, both with and without its trailer on as extra firepower
- It's got good articulation for such a chunky figure
- It's got visual clue salutes to both Powermaster Optimus Prime and Galaxy Convoy
- It's got its own Matrix
- It can combine with at least two other molds (the Leobreaker mold and its repaints, and the Cybertron Wing Saber mold and its repaints)

Next:

For several years, the Cybertron Evac / Galaxy Force Live Convoy was pretty much the best helicopter TF made IMHO. There were a few small gaps in vehicle mode, but it had a solid, excellent robot mode. It was later repainted as both Springer and Blades in subsequent lines.

Vector Prime has a very simplistic transform, but a solid vehicle mode and an excellent robot mode. The surface detail it has is simply amazing, with a very 'clockwork' look as befits his role as the guardian of time. It's also the first figure we ever got of a character actually acknowledged as one of the "First Thirteen". Later repaints would remove the electronics, but that does not hurt the mold very much anyway.

And if only because it got the absolute coolest repaint to date (Cannonball, the Decepticon Pirate, arrgh!), Cybertron Red Alert is a really nice mold. With a very unique and ingenious transform scheme, it (or its other repaint, Crankcase in the Movie line, but especially the Cannonball repaint) is an excellent Deluxe.

Scout - wise, Cybertron Armorhide is probably one of the most fun made. His entire chest opens up into a missile turret that would make any 'Con dive for cover, and he is VERY clearly an homage to both Huffer and Ironhide, depsite his color. And if you can get your hands on the Huffer repaint from BotCon 2007, GO FOR IT.

Those are MY five favorite molds, one of each size class except Legends, Supreme, or Minicon, and anything beyond that would be my own opinions with, admittedly, a moderately small Cybetron collection. However, one Cybertron figure to stay as far away as you can from would be Backstop. Nobody likes the thing, it looks more like a Rock Lord than a Transformer.

I like Backstop. He's definitely not must have, but if found for cheap he's a moderately fun figure with a solid Rhino mode. Transformation is simple and he looks unique. Maybe I just like flawed figures....

Other figures? For Legends class, Starscream is hands down the best Legends size figure I've ever gotten, period. It's got near as much articulation as it's larger brethren, and just looks nice. But if your not into Legends, maybe not your cup of tea.

Most of the scout class figures are good that I've gotten, and are mostly memorable. Brushguard is a good repaint, and he's got Wolverine claws, so a great Decepticon. Brakedown is a solid figure. Undermine a...werid face, but he's a Spinasaurus and I love him. Wreckloose is a neat Komodo Dragon. Shortround(of whom I have the repaint) has a toilet fan-mode, and is a cool hovercraft with lobster claws, what's not to love?

Optimus Primal and Megatron(Jungle Planet) are two of my favorite figures, and my favorite incarnation of the Beast Leaders that I own. The colors of the single packed ones I have aren't show accurate)Brown Primal and Green Megatron), but they look good, and they're just fun and very well detailed.

I have Primus, but I haven't pulled him out in awhile, so I'm not going to comment on him for now. Pretty good figure though, and hey, it's Cybertron itself! But, sadly, it's not Unicron level of awesomeness, in my opinion.

Crosswise is cool, and very solid, and that's the main point I'm going to make: From what I have(repaints from other lines included), most of the figures from Cybertron are good and solid, because they have a gimmick that's not very obtrusive. Articulation and transformation is pretty good all around from my experience, and I don't think there are a lot of "bad" figures.

However, since Transformer figures have improved quite a bit since then and there are few "homage" characters in the line overall I can't think of any truly awesome unique figures from the line itself. Repaints from other lines though are another story, but are homage centric, and influence my opinion.

But if there's one you might want to watch out for, it's Thudercracker. Mine broke at the shoulders after only a few transformations, but I might have gotten a lemon. He wasn't that great anyway.

thanks, this is the kind of advise I was looking for (others, please keep them coming). Funny that backstop got mentioned as I got him from a walmart a couple of weeks ago for 1.99 from the clearance section (25th anniversary). Crosswise is on its ways from an ebay purchase (love the car mode). As a whole, the tv series has a lot of critics but from the little that I've seen there were a lot of cool characters with lots of personality and good voicing too bad it doesn't seem like there are limited good figures. I've been eyeing Evac so hopefully the ebay gods will line up and I'll get a good deal on him.

Aside from the ones mentioned by Valandar, here are some of my favorites.

Scout:
Clocker. a cool, sleek car mode with a nicely proportioned and articulated robot mode.

Hardtop. for the same reasons as clocker, but instead of a car, he becomes a gun-toting buggy.

Deluxe:
Sideways. Has a cool-looking jet mode and a sinister bot mode, plus a faction-switching gimmick on his shield.

Voyager:
Cybertron Defense Scattorshot. Transforms from a ground-to-missile carrier to a decently articulated robot mode with massive missile arrays on both arms.

Ultra:
Wing Saber. A great looking jet mode and a fairly decent robot, but it's greatest attribute is that it can combine with prime. If you had to choose only one figure for Prime to combine with, get this.

Leader:
Galvatron. Why have a prime if you don't have a Megatron to trade bows with? He becomes a race car, a wonky-looking jet and a badass robot. He can also combine with the Leobreaker figure just like prime does.

Supreme:
Primus. Every Transformer collector should have the planet Cybertron eventually. A so-so figure but is very iconic.

Unfortunately I don't have anything new to add, but I'll back up the notion of:

Primus - I think he's better than so-so. I think he's a better execution of a planet figure than either Unicron or Death Star Vader (if you want to count him.)

Leader Optimus - I much prefer the traditional colors over Galaxy Force, myself, but great mold either way.

Galvatron - Much better color scheme than Megatron.

Evac is a cool figure, too, but I think Universe Classics Blades is the better way to go there. That's largely because Classics is my main focus, though.

Cybertron's the most diverse line since Generation 1 when it comes to alternate modes and gimmicks activated. It's no wonder it's my favourite line next to Beast Wars, Classics and RiD. Here are my picks:

Scouts
Ransack
One of the very few motorcycles to pull off a great robot mode. You can either get the red original, or the GTS version which kinda looks like Animated Prowl with additional white and translucent green.

Wreckloose
A Hasbro-only mold, he's perfect if you're looking for a Beast Wars feel, especially the Transmetal 2's. His gimmick is a bit less impressive, it makes him look like he's auditioning for Santa's spare reindeer.

Hardtop / Swindle
Another Hasbro-only mold. He's simple, design is nice and clean, nothing's overdone or underdone. If you're into G1, get Swindle, even if his colors are based on the Alternator version instead of the G1 original.

Scrapmetal
The perfect army builder, as in the show Scrapmetal are like locusts, traveling in swarms. Transformation is pretty straight forward, and he comes in 2 to 3 flavors: red, yellow and blue (a VERY common assortment of colors in any line). You'll have trouble tracking down the blue though, as that color's Japan-only. I know I have trouble...

Shortround
Again, a Hasbro-only mold, and unique in the fact he's a hovercraft. You may be turned off by his large arms though.

Deluxe
Hot Shot / Excellion
Easy peasy to transform, and just looks sleek as a car. You can him in blue or red, the red one completes the homage to G1 Hot Rod. Little known fact: his transformation almost matches that of Volfogg from King of Braves GaoGaiGar

Sideways
The other side of the spectrum, for Sideways you really need the instructions. His sharp angels give him a very evil look, and his faction switching gimmick is perfect for his role as all-round trouble maker.

Downshift
A classic car makes a classic robot. Blocky, yet modern.

Voyager
Vector Prime
Chuckfull of detail, you really need to get this one. His head even looks like the Autobot symbol, you can tell he has to look ancient.

Cybertron Defense Scattorshot
Who doesn't like a missile carrier tank transforming into a well-armed robot?

Ultra
Menasor
As the name implies, he looks menacing, with a claw and drill for hands. And in the show, he's REALLY big as a Giant Planet inhabitant.

Leader Class
Optimus Prime
No explanation needed.

Metroplex
There! I said it, I'm recommending Metroplex! :BLACKEYE: Sure, his vehicle mode doesn't look much like anything other than a robot performing yoga, but that's part of the charm. Tip: Look up "Megalo Convoy transformation" on YouTube, and you'll see how majestic he looks and transforms. Grab a few Legends for a good sense of scale.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)

- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1

My favorite though, isn't strictly Cybertron, though with the alterations it received for the line it is technically unique to Cybertron:

1. Dark Skorponok

Ohh and you should totally stay away from Overrride and its repaint, and Crumplezone is not that good either.

Man, tough one...
The second release of Optimus is just all kinds of joy. But it's one of those toy lines I just had to have every one. Both Scourges were just right. Armorhide, Excellion, Ransack, Undermine, Wing Saber, Brimstone, I mean, damn...

Cybertron Defense Team...

I give up... wrong thread for me to submit an answer... I'm outta here.

Have to agree with all of these, especially Hardtop, cool mold.

This, and the fact he tends to get dumped on ;)

The 2007 movie repaint Breakaway is a wonderful homage to G1 Getaway - great use of the mold, IMO.

Yes to all the above, especially Vector Prime.

As for Metroplex, he looks really good displayed with THS-01 Galaxy Convoy.

Get him. His transformation is one of the simplest ever (limbs stay in place), though you may have problems with the chest the first few times. He looks menacing and strong, with the wide and buff shoulders, and the axe is just big.

About the axe, the little extension is supposed to be at a 90 degree angle, not straight up.

Your mileage may DEFINITELY vary. I tend to avoid beastformers who just "stand up, flip down/back head, stick tail in hand" for a transform, and Scourge always seemed to be definitely meh, to me.
