Ultimate Bumblebee: Picture Intensive

Postby i_amtrunks » Tue Oct 09, 2007 10:31 pm

Hey all, There have been quite a fair few threads of late about Ultimate Bumblebee, asking the general questions. I figure people who are unsure on the figure can have a looksies of pics of the figure, to help make up their own minds.

Thought I'd throw some pics of my Ultimate Bumblebee up. I've tried to take basic pics of robot and alt mode, as well as trying to get pics of some of the details and bits and pieces about the figure. I'll post some of the better pics, and also a link to the full album of 25 pictures.

I have shrunk these pics down to 500px wide, thats as big as they get.

Now with Alternator Rodimus for Size reference, Alternators are 1:24 scale:

To see all 25 images, you can check out the album.

Hopefully this will help many of you make up your minds about this figure.

He is a brick.
A very hard to pose, unarticulated brick.

The sounds and lights are mostly useless in robot mode, but quite fun in Alt mode.

Alt mode is nice, and thats what mine stays in.

I knew what I was getting when I bought it, a big statue. But I like his gurth. I am happy enough with it. $80 was a touch much, but I am happy enough. I think I would have held off had I not found it in the middle of the great transformers drought of 07. Gonna need it as a sidekick for when they make an Ultimate Prime that plays Billy Squire "The Stroke" after the next movie.

I am happy with my Deluxe Bumblebee '08. They did well with the chest on the deluxe version. I was happy when I first heard about Ultimate Bumblebee. What's with the plain missile?!

UBB's chest can be "broken down" to resemble his movie version even more than 08BB!

Really? I would like to see a pic of that.

I saw the chest and I wondered whether you could move those two front pieces like with 08BB.

You can, but the bonnet barely stays in place well enough for the button hidden under it to be pushed, when you put the chest up ala deluxe version, you cannot press the button at all without lifting the bonnet up, which is annoying.

Lol seriously I don't think you have put much effort into the Robot Mode. What I mean is that there are a few details to make it look much better then what you have done which is 4/5 of the Robot Mode. Basically it is not the full Robot Mode.

I know you are extremely biased to this figure Bumbled, but I just posed him as best I can to keep him functioning like he should, I shouldnt have to move pieces to get him to work like he is advertised too. It's a compromise between functionality of Gimmicks and looks in robot mode, I hope you don't have the same issues with your figure as I do with mine.

And lets face it, the gimmicks are the main reason you buy a figure like this, if you were going for quality per $, detail or playability, you'd stick with the Deluxe.

That and he is back heavy, so had to lean him against the back of the lounge a fair bit!

Wrong.

You could buy an MP, import it to the UK, and have change for a scout or Real Gear. No way in hell am I spening more than I've spent on any transformer ever on *THAT*.

LOL

That is, by far, the best line I've seen in a while. Thank you for a good laugh. :)

I agree with Bumbled, too many people mistransform this figure, thus losing the overall "oomph" the figure mode could have.

However, I see i_amtrunks's side of it as well. The figure should function all the way around, in all forms. If you have to literally move pieces left, right, up and down just to make it all work, well then...further proves my point that it's a terrible design.

It's proof to me that they designed the mechanical guts first, then designed the shell around it, "and if it just so happens to take a hit to support the gimmicks, so be it" kinda mentality.

No thanks. I'll wait on clearance for this buy, or not at all. I flat out refuse to spend $80.00 on this figure when it's imperfect to the point that it is. (I realize nothing's perfect, don't get me wrong) Even the Deluxe Class figure is far more accurate, has the right proportions, and overall is the better of the two figures.

It's bad when a $10.00 bill will get you the quintessential figure of the character, and the $80.00 of your hard earned cash will get you lobotomized Robosapien with a Bumblebee designed shell around it.

Remember when $80.00 got you the figures that truly were ultimate? I mean they actually did wow you, their gimmicks were cool and they didn't really give you buyer's remorse. (or if they did, it quickly passed)

Look at Fortress Maximus for example. Yes, his main gimmick was his size (granted, that's generally a worthless gimmick, but on Max...it works. Well.) but he had so many other features.

A working elevator.
A working jail cell.
A double HeadMaster.
A city mode.
A robot mode.
A battle station mode.
A duo of autonomous security vehicles that combine into one larger robot companion.

Etc.

That for $80.00? I'm sold! Electronics or not.

Ultimate Bumblebee for $80.00? Not only am I not sold, I will laugh. Heartily at the price and then walk away.

There is nothing ultimate about him.

Although I don't mind UBB, I agree it's biggest problem is that it's somewhat redundant -- the Deluxe BB figure is basically perfect size and design as is.

I think that what everyone really wants is an Ultimate Blackout.

I have zero remorse about getting UBB. I paid $50. for a Leader Prime, I don't mind spending $80. for an UBB that's twice the size of Prime.

Besides most if not all of the pics posted of him have him mistransformed. His chest does alot more then these pics show, *you can kind of see it in my avatar, his chest is 5 separate pieces, don't know why people just flip the whole hood down and leave it*, His legs aren't fully extended or his kneecaps would be well below the yellow piece above them with the black lines on it. His gun barrel also extends about a half inch past what the pics show.

I just think alot of people want to hate the figure, so they find reasons to do so. Like I mentioned in another thread, a deluxe is ten dollars, upgrade to the next size *Voyager* and you double the price, Voyager is twenty dollars, upgrade to the next size and a Leader figure will run you over fifty dollars easily with tax, upgrade to the next size and Ultimate BB is only thirty dollars more then Leader Prime. The price always seems to double, but it's not doubling when moving up to the Ultimate size. They could have charged a hundred bucks easily, but they didn't. As for the comparing the price to the MP's, I don't see it. I've seen MP-05 suffering rust, Starscream apparently is so fragile if you look at it wrong it breaks, and Prime,.....well Prime is always awesome. But 100 dollars for a figure that will rust or break? Or 80 dollars for one that's surprisingly extremely durable.

Yes his gun arm does not have an elbow and so cannot bend. They did this I'm sure because part of the electronics is the auto-firing missile, and yes, since his arms are geared into the figures machine controls, you can't just grab his arm and raise it over his head, it hits a stopping point.

However those are the only 2 reasons I see to bitch about this figure, he's not fully posable. But he is posable. Plus you can always switch him off when he moves into a position you like. Switch him off and he stays in that position.

He's a truly awesome figure, all his parts lock together very well and tight *again, something most pics aren't showing* and looks very good in both modes. Unlike everyone else, I keep mine in robot mode, he's more intimidating that way.

Plus alot of the people who are saying, "he sucks"....Don't have him. It's all opinion and regurgitating the 'popular' opinion of the moment.

You new guys fit in well.

Seriously. Every contrary opinion to yours is an affront to the greatness of the movie and its merchandise.

Don't get me wrong, other elements of the fandom do it too.

All they had to do was put UBB in an Alternator sized body and mold and I would have been all over it. Instead, it got supersized and my heart stopped functioning for it due to $80 of pork based cholesterol.

well if that actually were the case, then I guess I'd be fitting in really well with the rest of you then, wouldn't I?

One thing I notice over and over on this board is the condesending, "My opinion is right and everyone else's is wrong." attitude. This is the fanatical fandom attitude that makes all fans of many different properties from Star Wars to Star Trek, Transformers to John Carpenters:Halloween, look like a bunch of complete dorks to the rest of the world. Picture 'Comic-Book Guy' from the Simpsons. That's actually very close to the typical fan I meet. Which is why I don't hang out with too many fans. They're usually dorks with no social skills.

Thanks for pointing me out and calling me a 'new guy', sorry I didn't discover this board until after the movie came out oh god of Transformer-dom.

Transformers are awesome, the movies and tv shows are awesome, the toys are awesome, the fans?? Not so much.

You go from being the victim to insulting everyone possible on these boards all in one post.

You said:

It's all opinion and regurgitating the 'popular' opinion of the moment.

Well big deal. People don't agree with your minority opinion on the matter of UBB. That fact alone shouldn't allow you to generalize about the rest of the fandom, this message board, and the posters who are discussing the topic.

You argue for the toy as being great and make negative comments about other toys out the other side of your mouth. Your statements are no better than the issues you're getting upset about.

Now I appreciate this part...

oh god of Transformer-dom.

but no matter how much you appreciate me, try not to belittle everyone else like this...

Transformers are awesome, the movies and tv shows are awesome, the toys are awesome, the fans?? Not so much.

We're all friends here. I'm sure you can support your love for the toy without hating on everyone and thing else.
