Well I didn't read every post, but here's my opinion on repaints. Repaints have been around since the first line of G1, in fact most of G1 were repaints from Diaclones and various other lines. You might say Transformers was built on repaints. I have no problem with them. In fact I'm pretty pumped about all the Cybertron repaints since I missed so many when they were at retail.

However, when refrencing a post(especialy a detailed one), you can't just take the parts you want of the statemnet, the idea gets misconstured.

Even worse, you may miss the actual point while being convoluted with what you want to think. That makes us no better then the payed media, and we all know how f___ed uf they are :P

*Yeah, I'm referencing two different hopefully single points from differen posts, but bear with me :P *

Anyway, I hope both statements are true and this new Universe does what the old Universe was trying to do for a short time, namely bring in figures like Nemesis Prime or Overbite that were never released in the U.S., or some of the other rare molds that had a smaller release.
Maybe they'll release that Coby Ramble thing as Frenzy or something.

Oh yeah, some great repaints take forever to come out! I would have so bought the Universe Seacons in stores, but they never came out, and now they're going to be a club exclusive. Is there a set price/release date for them set yet, cause now that I have a job I figure I could afford them and join the club if the non-club price is the difference of membership.

True. But did you see what was on the side of the G2 Megatron Legends packaging. "Classics Series"

Just Hasbros way of appeasing some of the fans. I for one don't care it's not called Classics anymore. I'll call it what I've been calling it since day one.

Transformers: Awsomesauce

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am not a fan of Beast Wars at all. But even I am looking forward to Universe Cheetor. On top of that we get a new Universe Armada figure that fell short of all the hype that went in to the character. I for one can't wait to see them both.

That's not the point. Armada is long over and we still get Armada molds repainted and included in other lines. We're even getting a Classics mold released in the Movie line.

Whether it says Classics on the box or not is of little concern.

On one hand, a repaint "can make a mold look much better," as Evil_the_Nub put it. (This is what happened for me with Armada Tidal Wave when reissued in Energon.) The other hand for me is that the same mold repainted over and over again gets redundant. The deluxe-class BM Jetstorm mold (despite being a personal favorite of mine I wouldn't mind seeing on shelves again) is an example of this.

Here's when repaints bug me:

Seeing one mold used too many times for the same character in variations.

When an old mold is used for a character that just doesn't work.
i.e.
Universe Blaster.
This is suppose to be a Classics series figure???

No it's not suppose to be a Classics series figure because there is not more Classics. It's Universe. Universe won't only have G1 inspired figures. So far they have G2, Beast Wars and Armada in it as well. I'm sure, much like Titanium it will touch all spectrums of the fandom.

Besides, when Galaxy Force Soundwave came out people wanted two things. Soundblaser and Blaster. Two, count em' two repaints.

Valid point here. Problem is if you use a mold often enough in a certain period of time, it gets repetitive, doesn't it? This is "What's wrong with repaints" for me. There have been repaints lately that I've been happy to see, I just don't wanna see those molds get beat like a dead horse.

Yeah, I should've spotted that - it was in this very thread.

I read somewhere else that apparently some of the other continuities being listed under Universe like Cheetor and Hotshot won't carry the 'Classic Series' label, though that remains to be seen. That's probably just speculation.

Another reason for calling this Universe Classic Series may be simply to distinguish it from the previous Universe line.

But who’s to say every figure is classics series? You see, if you look on the Universe G1 reissue Prime box it says he’s part of G1 series Universe, the repaints may not necessarily be classics series and Hotshot may be Armada series.

To reply with the title, not a dammned thing.

I would like to see better paintjobs the first time out (I'm looking at you Energon and Cybertron Meg/Galvatron). But even then, you know if you wait long enough, a decent enough color scheme pops up.

I'm more tired of the same names popping up for every line. And G1 scheme repaints. Hopefully, they use Universe to get this all out of their and our system, and create some new characters. One of the things I like about the movie line, although I don't like the toy designs, is that there are new characters and backstories.

I agree with this too. I hate the endless parade of stupid names too. "heavy Load" "Hightower" "Longarm" Geez.
Perhaps the biggest dislike over repaints stems from too many of the same mold too soon. Relaistically, aren't we still too close in time to be getting millions of Energon Arcee repaints, or yet more Cybertron Clockers? Since the molds are so recent, if you've been collecting for more than a year or two or three, you might have that mold already or just skipped it because you didn't like it.
The repaint issue is the same on many levels as the reissue issue. People who have been out of the hobby or are brand new to it or whatever the situation may be usually want Jazz and Prowl reissues. If you've been in the hobby for the last 6-8 years, you've seen these two figures reissued like twice or three times. Encore Jazz, fine, but I'd prefer an Encore figure we didn't get at TRU or the TFC collection. I can appreciate people not wanting to pay 6-8 year inflated prices just because I wasn't collecting a few years ago, but them's the breaks, you know. I always wanted a G1 Sky Lynx. I was going to pay the big money for an origianl G1 and then it came out through Encore. I wanted a G1 Megatron before the Encore Megatron came out, so I spent the money for one from the TFC Collection. Sure I'd rather have gotten one at the $25 price or whatevr the TRU reissues were, but I couldn't so I paid for an existing one. I know that some people may not be able to afford that much for a toy, but wasn't Encore Megs like $65? The TFC I bought was $80, a difference but a negligible one really.
The problem might be one of getting the same repainted molds and reissued G1 figures for the last few years. I STILL LOVE REPAINTS, I BUY A LOT OF REISSUES, but man the same old ones? Getting boring. But I still buy them, so I don't complain too much.

Agian, totally right. Maybe it wasn't in this thread, but I was talking earlier about how it's nice to see "Classics" on what the fans consider the Classics line. I also like how Hotshot will be Armada Series and Cheetor will be Beast Wars Series.

I also really dig how it says G1 right on the 25th packaging.

Hmm, I wonder if Cheetor will be "Beasties Series" here in Canada :-?

I definitely don't think every figure will be labeled under "Classics series", that doesn't even make sense.

"Universe" is the general overall line.
I'm assuming "Classics series" will be for any of the characters that where originally from the G1 realm.

Has anyone seen the label on Dump Load?
I'm assuming that doesn't say "Classics..", as where I'd assumer the package for the Blaster wanna-be would.

I'm betting Cheetor's packaging says "Beast Wars Series".
I'm assuming that enough of those characters will be released to justify that label.

I'll tell you what is wrong with repaints....Nothing!

I love repaints, they take a mold, add an awesome paint job, then BLAMMO!! you get Big Daddy  . My main reason for loving repaints, is that I grew up with G1. Well, for the first few years some of my favorite characters were repaints, lets run down a list. :D

Skywarp
Thundercracker
Prowl (I think Silverstreak came out first if not reverse this)
Ratchet (slight retool)
Smokescreen. (retool)
Ramjet (retool)
Dirge (retool)
Thrust (retool)
Frenzy or Rumble (U pick)
Laserbeak
Ultra Magnus (without the armor)
Inferno (slight retool)
Hoist (retool)
Plus some of the second minibots were retools (Pipes, Hubcap, etc)
and there are many more from different series, but I thought I would just cover early years 1984-1986.

I would say that is a good list of beloved characters, 12 of them make my top 50 list, so I'd say that is pretty good. People will always say things, but being a repaint lover I try not to listen. Repaints not only give us a new character but they also provide a second chance to get a mold you weren't able to get before (like me and Cyro-Scourge). Transformers fans have one of the best assortments in all of figure collecting, and the awesome repaints are one of the parts of that.

I'm glad someone decided to start a post on this touchy subject, and with reguard to the Botcon repaints, don't worry Takara will probably make Dirge and Thundercracker. I know I'm buying the Cybertron Starscream repaint of Dirge. so there's an option as well.

If I wanted to give a pro and a con for repaints, this is the pro with my complaint about potential repetition being the con.

The pro here (to be clear about it) is that a repaint can give you a fair shot at a mold that wasn't common or might have been missed when first released. C-Starscream getting repainted into Dirge for the comic packs is a prime example of this.

I've already voiced my point about repetition in this thread, I think, so no need to repeat myself, right?

Yeah, I should've spotted that - it was in this very thread.

I read somewhere else that apparently some of the other continuities being listed under Universe like Cheetor and Hotshot won't carry the 'Classic Series' label, though that remains to be seen. That's probably just speculation.

Another reason for calling this Universe Classic Series may be simply to distinguish it from the previous Universe line.

I definitely don't think every figure will be labeled under "Classics series", that doesn't even make sense.

"Universe" is the general overall line.

Well, 'classic' can be a very broad term, all-encompassing in the wrong hands. It can include G2 Megatron, for example. But given that the Optimus Reissue posted above says 'G1 series', we don't even need to make assumptions based on what makes sense.

I think we can safely conclude that that not all Universe figures will be part of the 'Classic Series'. It's there in print.
