Cussing is as natural as going to the bathroom: you're gonna have to deal with it. I didn't mind the light cussing in the movie, though some might have seemed out of place. It was fine.

Yeah, if you've got problems with the cursing in the movie, do yourself a favour- Don't watch any Chris Rock or Eddie Murphy stand-up. Come to think of it, don't watch stand-up comedy fullstop.

Other folks have already mentioned how it's rated pg-13, so obviously you should take that into account. I completely agree with that and won't comment much further. With the US rating system it also includes the very reasons for a movies rating, below the rating title. If you're a concerned parent you should be checking that out before you make any assumptions and bring your kid to a flick.
And the "masturbation" scene, this just boggles my mind that some people are finding it offensive. I've actually seen people talk about this in another thread about a week ago. It was just making light of a very realistic family situation. It wasn't even some sort of innuendo. And if something like that prompts a birds and the bees talk with your 8 or 9 year old kid, I hardly find that to be the end of the world. Better that you have a discussion with them now, than they learn it on the playground.
Starhorse..While I agree that the ratings are there for a reason , and should be taken into account by parents, I completely disagree with the joke about masturbation being in this movie. It would have been okay for 40 Year-old Virgin, Knocked-up, Old School, etc. But I am sorry..I grew up watching the Transformers as a kid. When that line came up in the movie, I had never felt so embarassed about being a TF fan. I laughed out loud at almost all of the other jokes the first time I saw the movie. I only groaned uncomfortably at that one. There were young kids in that audience, TF dads bringing their sons, trying top get them into the TF fandom at a young age, like we were when we came into it. To have to have "the talk" BECAUSE of the TF movie is ridiclous. That should be brought up at a more appropraite time, at the parents' deiscression. Now, that being said, I went and saw it with my friends the other day and was able to see the adult humor in it, laughing out loud even. However, it should not have been in this movie. I really feel that any person in here that thinks it was cool, or that did not have a twinge of guilt, should seriously check themselves. These are the types of people who like Paris Hilton because she is hot, and don't care that she is famous for shaking her ass in public and being an heiress, not for having any discernable talent what-so-ever. Irresponsibilty reigns supreme in today's America. That's what that joke was, irresponsible. I don't want to be negatively labelled because of this post. All I am saying is that it could have been said differently, or not said at all, and the movie would have been better for it.

Cryosis Prime wrote:It's stuff like this that tells me what a screwed up society we live in. The fact that graphically violent films can score as low PG 13 (The best example of this I can think of right now is Star Trek First Contact) and as soon as any sex gets in (Even comparatively tame sex scenes such as Matrix Reloaded) it gets slapped "R," is to me a prime example of just how inverted the censorship principles are today.
Masterbation is a by in large natural function, and personally I say kudos for using the proper term as opposed to beating around the bush (no pun intended) and using a slang and calling it "jacking off" or something else.
Significant violence outside of the hunt is not natural, contrary to what some psychologists/sociologists/criminologists believe. People arent normally violent to eachother. We don't go around killing and harming people. However, we do engage in sexual activity regularly. Or at least most people do.
Something normal (sexuality) is taboo, and something unnatural (violence) makes family entertainment. We all know something is wrong with that premise.
Quoted for truth.
I downright hate (with every fiber in my soul) the utterly wrong way sexuality and violence are treated in pop entertainment.
And this is coming from a Dutchman, the Netherlands are (correctly) known for greater tolerance of sexuality compared to other countries.
Still, nude tv is not allowed until after 11.00 pm, while graphically violent movies (including extremely gory films in a 'realistic'* setting like Saw and Final Destination) are shown during prime time.
What the heck is up with such hypocricy? I'm not against the use of violence in movies when it's entertaining and/or serves the plot, but I can't stand extreme gore and find it much more offensive than a bare female chest or a reference to sexual activities.
Like the quoted post states, why is something as natural as sexuality treated as bad or even worse than brutal murder resulting in horrific deaths?
Which thing would you want to shield your child from? Something they should know and learn to enjoy (at least from 11 and up) or something that's the cause of despair and horror throughout the world?
* = realistic when compared to alien robotic invasions. It is after all possible to be caught in a huge traffic jam collision or to be captured by a sadistic lunatic.
