I'm not entirely sure how this helps your case, as I doubt you or anyone else is close enough to the situation to claim this is why you're laughing at it.
And, no. Speaking for myself, I've never been in so much pain that I could laugh something off.
TheMuffin wrote:NO ONE IS LAUGHING AT THE KID! Christ people, I wish some of you would read what is being typed. Not one person in here said "Haha, that's hilarious that the kid shoved his head underground and suffocated". NO ONE!
Everyone in here has said the same thing. Where was his common sense and where were the parents.
Autobotic9 wrote:I find it hard to believe that the kid couldn't pull himself up. 10 yr olds have pretty much developed their arm muscles enough to have the strength to push himself out.

How many have read Origin of Species?
A page?
Paragraph?
Sentence?
I haven't. So unless you have, Natural selection is out of the question.
But, if you still like the idea, let's put oursleves in a jungle with nothing but us and see how long we last.

And many seem to have had the general idea before him-- he cites many French authors. His major contribution was over 40 years of scientific, in-the-field research. I would say, however, that the general definition of "fit" is merely what keeps you alive long enough to reproduce, as opposed to other organisms and a constantly changing environment.
For mankind, it seems the big three "fit" issues are (relatively) high intellect, manipulative and adaptable body structure (biocular vision and opposable thumbs), and a socialization instinct, a pooling of numbers, if you will.

Such crap I have never seen.

This definitely wouldn't get it taken off the air. There isn't nearly a good enough case. It'd be about the same as Jack Thompson saying school shootings were caused by Grand Theft Auto.

I really hope you were just trying to single out a few, not all Americans.
Dark Zarak wrote:As for americans, I am singling out only the fat, lazy, cigarette smoking ones. If I meant everyone in America I would have specified everyone.

I'm sure everyone, not just Americans, not just any specific group, has done stupid things in their lives. What's the expression? "To err is human." And the other? "There are only two infinite things: the universe and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the former." The way I think it, everybody has done something in his or her life to remove them from "the fittest." If I could only list the stupidity in my life... but, then again, I don't like embarassing myself.![]()
I mean, we've all must have done one huge boneheaded snafu in our lives, whether it's from any list in this thread or not. One of those things you slap your forehead over or think hindsight is 20-20. Not just the fat, lazy, cigarette-smoking people. Not just the people who drive too fast, take things way too strenuously, get involved in the wrong crowds, or spend too much time in front of the television.
And a mistake doesn't have to be life-threatening to have serious consequences on your life.

Exactly. So therefore, nobody has the right to talk survival of the fittest and be happy for the gene pool when someone dies. That's not just laughing at the action, that really is mocking the tragedy.
Dark Zarak wrote:What's really laughable is a bunch of people dependent on a system that abuses people around the world, people who would not survive without it, are sitting on their asses at the computer saying natural selection this, natural selection that.
It's gone beyond what happened to this kid. It's about fat, lazy, cigarette smoking americans playing the stupid card.
Stupidity should be lethal. Stupidity should be lethal.

Sure, just as long as you don't pull the old "laughing at the situation is the same as laughing at the kid" card. Logical fallacy.

Last I checked it was "stupid actions of a particular order and/or sufficient magnitude are potentially lethal".
Am I reading a different thread?

People on the Internet seem to think all too often that, unless they spell out what they were saying a Hooked on Phonics textbook and lead everyone along by the hand, they weren't actually saying it. Puh-lease. Sorry, but as the person who opened a thread to bring up an article they thought was comical, called it "Another one bites the dust," and then said "One less Naruto fan," you'll be hard-pressed to convince me you were just laughing at the situation
, especially when the only reference you made was to the kid (not the way he died).
What else would you have everyone believe, that you were laughing with him? If that wasn't your intended message, please reread your posts to make sure you're coming through clearly.
Still, no matter what, my original thought stands: why are we taking any joy out of this at all?
