This is a little idea that's popped into my head in the last few days, plus it has a bit of history.

Wing Commander. No, not the movie, just forget that movie, but rather the game. One of the best games for the PC at the time (surpassed by the brilliant X-Wing -vs- Tie Fighter). For those that don't know you were simply a pilot in a space fighter and you got to blow up the bad guys in your big bad ship.

But one of the little things you could do between missions was to jump on the battle simulator. Which was essentially just what you did in the game (blowing bad guys up) but you didn't actually die.

So implementing something like that for HMW would be pretty basic yes?

But why not make it fun?

Rather than say pitting your selected bot against say other HMW bots, why not have them fight Go-Bots?

But why stop at Go-Bots? Why not be able to pit your tank against one of the various tanks across various series.

But we don't stop with tanks. There's a bunch of various vehicles from all sorts of different series that could be used, some of them even have alt modes already made up!

Could be a good way to put some of the fan made non-TF alts to use. Plus battles could last 5 mins or so with a small amount of xp gain (for example 5xp for level 0 instead of the base 100xp) as the bot is essentially learning from the battle.

And no, this isn't an arena replacement idea so unbunch your panties already. It's just an idea for an additional feature which might help kill five mins for folks who don't want to wait on missions.

Plus you could beat on Go-Bots! :grin:

That would be awesome.

Especially the beating on Go-Bots bit!

EDIT: Wouldnt that change the PvP aspect of the game though? Im prety sure that was one fundamentals of HMW that wasnt going to be changed.* (But I still think its a top idea.)

By series I meant different franchises.

Tanks from Robotech, WarHammer etc.

And not just tanks, all sorts of vehicles from all sorts of franchises.

And it wouldn't change the PvP aspect much. I mean if someone wants to sit there playing the simulator constantly good luck to them. There is a chance that playing like that you could end up generating more xp than you could in a mission, but it wouldn't be much more.

Maybe make it so you can only use one bot at a time. That still leaves you with five slots to do something with.

Really, I just see this as something for a bit of fun and a way to use up some more of the fan made alts.

Nice! Id be just as interested in that - unique idea too.

Any reason its not canon TF's or is it just for variety?
Im willing to bet that if we got the chance to face canon NPC's, even without an XP 'prize', poeple would jump at the chance to battle them.

Just so you guys won't get your hopes up, there won't be a "battle simulator" in ne next HMW.

I could definitely add it on later, but it's too late to add any more pieces to the new application and still get it out on time.

That's alright. I consider questions like these to be the staff's way of testing the waters, so to speak.

It's a personal preference thing really.

I'm of the belief alts mode that our bots can use should be strictly from TF mythology. (Unless of course a story is used to explain why TF's have access to alt modes from different brands and time zones)

So for all the non-TF alt modes the battle simulator would be a good spot for them.

The opponents would also more than likely not have the ability to transform. So something to consider there would be to heavily research a vehicles ability and assign it to an appropriate level (eg Ecto-1 with little to no offensive capabilities would be level 0 while a War Hammer Lemun Russ tank with it's offensive capabilities would be level 6+)

And yeah, if you want transforming opponents then perhaps this might be a good spot to slot in NPC canon characters.

Works for me, although i dont really know much about many other toy franchises other than MASK.

Irrespective of the poor standard of most of the toys.

I like this idea.
I know you said it wasnt an arena replacment idea, but I wouldnt have to 'unbunch my panties' if it was, as it does what I want the arnea to do, provide an alternate source of xp when missions aint treating you nice.

I loved that game. It's only real flaw was that it was usually easier and more damaging to ram your opponents than dogfight them. You could usually ram at least two ships before you'd be in danger of blowing up yourself, more if you were in the heavily armored ship (the Scimitar, I think?). I saw more Kilrathi ships from really, really, reaaallly close up than I think the designers intended.
