BBTS MP-05 Masterpiece Megatron - The Plug

I know that this has been mentioned in a few other threads and everything, but I decided to make a new thread, designed for the burning question that many of us have (since it’s becoming a chore to look up every single reference to this issue on the board, hoping for an update).

Has anyone received their MP-05 Masterpiece Megatron from Big Bad Toy Store (BBTS) yet? If so, how hard is it to remove the plug?

We all know what the plug looks like, its dimensions, and that adhesive will be used; but, we have not heard the perspective of anyone who actually received theirs yet. I personally can’t wait to buy this figure, but this little piece of information keeps holding me back. Please post if/when you receive MP-05 Megs to help the rest of us out! Thanks in advance! :D

Of course, if anyone created a thread for this that I’ve missed somehow, feel free to delete this, or ignore it, whatever.

Mine isn't scheduled to arrive until thursday

I'm very curious myself

If I can't remove it by pulling it out I will just cut it off

Just get it from any store that isnt planning to plug it themselves.

It'll probably still arive pluged.
But we know the Takara plug is easy enough to remove.

I actually read on the BBTS site that the plug will be attached with some sort of glue, so it may not be that easy to remove it.

Problem solved.
I know Xybertoys delivers for free to the US. Dunno how competative the price is (its aimed at the more expensive UK market) but they wont be gluing any plugs in.

I believe in a thread someone mentioned that you can pull the plug out because there is very little glue and it isn't permanent. Just take small pliers and remove it carefully. There will be glue still inside his barrel, but you can just take something small enough to reach inside and clean it out with Goo Gone.

the bbts looks pretty glued into, to me that is, as i see it on their websites.. also if you get the resissue megs, you can't even put the silencer on it, because of that damned plug. i think they're worried about even having them, so the ones they get will be glued in and it ruins the toy. i plan on just buying mine from somewhere else when i get the ends.. just got mp starscream so i plan on waiting and seeing how all this plays out. but good thread topic.

Thanks!

I really want this figure, but I don't want to be sorry after I laid down the $100 + shipping to get him. I keep trying to examine the pictures, but I've all but given up. Hopefully we'll get some confirmation soon!

the BBTS plug is vastly different from the others we've seen so far. Its red and is glued into place with adhesive.

If you don't want the plug you are better off just buying somewhere else. I mean loyalty is one thing but when it comes to permanent damage to your collectable? Well hey sorry my collection comes first.

If a figure is going to get screwed up its my stupid had that must do it!

Just got home and discovered that my Megs from BBTS arrived!

The toy is pretty awesome. BBTS (re)packaged the figure well considering it was modded (you can tell they opened the box from the bottom which had an extra piece of tape).

Alrighty, now for the big concern... The orange safety tip is glued and, at first, it seems pretty darn secure- but far from "permanent." It is pretty easy to remove, just takes some care. I took some needle-nose pliers and was able to loosen and pull the plug a little to make small gap between the end of the barrel and the plug. I then took a flathead screwdriver, slide it into the gap, and pried out the plug. Worked pretty well.

Not too risky, but it does take some force to get that plug out. If you're careful enough you won't damage the toy at all. There will be some glue residue in the barrel- I have not tried removing it since you cannot see it unless you shine light right into the barrel- but I would think its possible using a q-tip and some Goo Gone and/or maybe trying scraping it off if you really wanted no sign of the glue. As they stated on the BBTS site, the glue is only added at the bottom of the plug and seemed like a minimal amount.

If you plan on trying to remove the plug yourself, I just recommend transforming the figure into gun form first and, of course, just be really careful loosening the plug before prying it out. If the plug is too stubborn and seems like there was a lot of glue used, might be better to just drill as much of the plug out and/or do some touch-up paint.

Hope this helps!

Still think it's safer going elsewhere... Or living in the UK where they ban real guns, not fake ones, and dont have hoicidal maniacs kill everybody in university and schools....

You know what...I like you, Red. I agree with a lot you have to say, but you're obviously not educated enough to know that most gun murders in the US are from illegal weapons. I'm not an NRA member, but in the US, it's a Constitutional right to bear arms. Oh, and BTW, there's still murders in the UK. Taking away the tool doesn't stop the murderer.

Sorry for the threadjack.

You know, less than like 12 hours after the event really is too soon to use something like the VT shootings to prove a point.

The NRA defends a valid and express portion of the enumerated rights of America Citizens. I..., don't have much more to say on the matter. But maybe you should ask some of the US folks here about how things really work before making generalizations that undercut the truth of the matter.

Why are we talking about the Massacre in here >.> it's not like he used MP-05 Megatron or anything. Take it do the discussion on the topic and not with Megatron.

On topic, has anyone ordered from BBTS lately, like in the last 4 days and got a message saying it was shipped? I might just cancel because I don't think I'll get one.

You're my hero! I finally know the answer to one of life's burning questions!

Doesn't sound all that bad. Think I'll be getting one soon. If nothing else, it sounds like a fun little project. I dub it, "Operation: Unplug Megatron."

What the hell is wrong with you? Have you no respect for the dead...at all?

How could you be so cold and inhuman to even use that as an example? Seriously??

You're entitled to your opinions, but good God man, use some discretion before posting something like this, especially considering it *JUST* happened yesterday!
