Beast Wars would be awesome with gore

Discuss anything about the Transformers cartoons and comics! You can discuss anything from G1 to Cybertron as well as the comics from Marvel, Dreamwave, IDW and more!

VestigialHeart wrote:Look at the movie that just came out! Its 'mature' theme is what sparked so much debate all over the boards! You see transformers getting ripped to pieces!

What mature themes? I wouldn't class senslessly getting ripped to pieces as a mature theme. I would class the question of what is sentient life and how alive are robotic systems as a mature theme, or the question of the need for war. I would even class the question on how to deal with the nastiness of school as a mature theme if handled properly.
Even a Transformers series intend for children could be mature. Take Gargoyles for example or "The Grave of the Fireflies" that movie is for children (rated six years and upwards over here), but it is a very mature movie dealing with mature themes, just on a level also accessible to children.

Excessive violence isn't a sign of maturity if it isn't backed up by a proper story to go along with it. In most cases excessive violence and ggore is a sign that the creator ran out of proper ideas and now have nothing but shock value to fall back upon.

What topis are brought up, how the stories are written and present are the mesurements of maturity, not the amount of blood or ripped fur per minute.

Weapon: Diffraction Sword
While I think the BW show never needed gore, I do think it might be entertaining. Not in abundance, mind you, but I would like to see a little bleeding from the organic parts if the character is severely injured. This could probably work pretty well in the comics.

I can't believe that so much of the fandom is in agreement that Transformers is 'just a kid's show'. It's pathetic and truly a let down for me, somebody who has divulged so much energy to the franchise. Or maybe I'm just one of the few here who, instead of feeding an inner child, actually GREW UP watching the show and didn't stay prepubescent.

People who push for gore in film and television because it's "mature" probably don't understand what "mature" means. Developed. Advanced. Complex.

If gore makes something "mature", then GWAR must be mature as all get out.

Not to disrespect GWAR and their self-aware comedic terror-metal. I love those guys.

Responses like "For pete's sake it's a family show" and "Why do people not understand Transformers cartoons (Including Beast Wars) are for kids?" make me question how seriously people take the continuities. Responses like those from Counterpunch and Whiner-tron are malicious and unnecessary. If all you want is to bash then keep your words to yourself.

Well in this matter of being right...
While I don't think I am the center of the universe, I may have got this snowball rolling.

When I say family show, I consider what I've watched as a family with my parents. StarTrek TNG was among the staples of what I considered "family show" material. I also was joking mostly with that statement. I think I even used an emo-con. I apologize if my actions in anyway offended you, let alone getting you compared to Tramp

It was not my intent to insult you.

I rather do like the idea of the maximals/predacons struggling to control their more primal instincts gained from there beastmodes. I think they even touched on the concept once or twice in the BW/BM series. But IMHO, I still think flesh tearing transformations, and any healing factor to mitigate them, would lessen the impact and significance of whatever actually comes remotely close to gore or violence in the series.

While I doubt VestigialHeart meant current Wolverine healingfactor levels, the way that term's effects can scale worse than the DBZ series... and I'm a fan of both.

Extra gore only seems to add shock value to me, and takes away from the true entertainment; the story and character development. I think you did ask for opinions and thoughts on your thoughts...

VestigialHeart wrote:I was watching an episode of Beast Wars a while back and thought to myself "how awesome would it be with gore in it?"
I mean the characters have skin, fur and feathers; they're exterior beast form shells contain some type of tissue. I always imagined the transformation process being a bit painful for the preds and maximals. I don't mean blood and guts flying everywhere, but rather a bit more painful of a transformation with the tissues tearing apart and refusing together. Think Wolverine when he uses his claws how the flesh rips apart and then heals back over when he sheathes his claws. I'm not sure if there's already been any fan pics of it, but i thought it would look awesome seeing Optimus Primal literally RIPPING out of beast mode into robot mode. It would be MUCH more vicious and a HELL of a lot more intimidating.

I understand that it would be too gory for kids, but as an adult i can't help but envision a more realistic, darker version of the continuity. I mean, it's war; war is never pretty nor is it child friendly.

What do you think? Cool idea or ravings of a madman?
yeah know what VH... I only answered because I thought it was cool how you typed 'ravings of a madman' as I often say that myself.

In this matter of being wrong...
I'm a little disappointed about this thread becoming a bit darker after my post. Fans arguing with fans, and opposing opinions getting bashed is one thing; implied Comments about others stages in puberty and patheticness of the TF fan community, on a TF fansite, is not a way to get welcomed into the TF fan community. IMHO it is wrong to assume so.

Ripping out of a beast mode? I would be interested to see an animation of it, but not in the series properly. They wrapped themselves in a thin layer of skin, and to be honest, I would find it too repulsive and sickening to watch a series of them like that.

As for a darker theme to BW, they tried that with Beast Machines. I loved the nature of that show, a nice contrast to BW which I thought had started to get a little too kiddy in series 3. Introduce darker themes in BW? Yeah, I could go for that provided the same team who worked on the original show did it.

Out of curiosity, have you heard of an episode called Dark Glass, set mid way through series 3? It was never made due to it being deemed too dark.

You know Damolisher, it would have made my week if you quoted this gem instead,
While I don't think I am the center of the universe, I may have got this snowball rolling.
even if technically out of context...

:-? I'm curious if Punch is in fact head of that team which shall not be named, with CP as just a figurehead in his mind..

I think I've witnessed CP having "a Punch moment.." :P

;;) and with me needing a new sig... permission to quote you Tyler Durden

While I did receive heart felt apology from VH, via pm, and except it, I don't see him extending one to all or increasing his post count in at this site. He's likely become a confirmed lurker for another 5 years...

His name is Robert Paulson...

In the episode where Inferno is formed and Tigatron blows up the stasis pod, you can see the tiger head on his chest is bleeding (red blood) from Tarantulus's gatling gun legs.

Photographic evidence. Of what, I'm not sure. He has holes in him and you can see pink underneath, but not blood, and I do remember Cheetor mentioning that he doesn't have any "real blood". It resembles the intestines in Cheetor's gut gun, but they and this may be some kind of tubing. Maybe organic muscle tissue, maybe fibrous nano-muscles. On his robot face, the wounds reveal bare metal underneath. The tiger definitely has a black eye.

Right, because a fascination with graphic violence is a corner stone of maturity. :?

Additionally, spazzing out like that and insulting the rest of the community won't win you many points with the other posters, and certainly not the staff.

And incidentally, someone else has already beaten you to punch on the whole gory-transformation idea (by one or two months), but unfortunately I'm obligated to say nothing more until his work is done.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Reviewing the rest of it, you seem to have already gotten well enough reemed by the other posters. If you all drop the attitude, I'll let this thread continue on the benefit of the doubt. Continue the downward spiral into petty insults and flaming though and it gets locked.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Edit II (Looks at post date): AAAAAAHHHHH! Zombie thread, kill it! Kill it with Shaolin Spades!

I feel well and truly silly now.
