Thunderscream wrote:In my opinion, it's unlikely (though not impossible) that Transformers will beat Harry Potter 5 this weekend. The biggest thing going against Transformers is that it's in its second week, and few summer blockbusters do as well in their second week as they do in their first. That being said, I don't think the Harry Potter movie will do as well as Transformers has this year. For one, I think people, fans of the series or not, have had enough of sequels this year (which is likely why Die Hard 4 failed to beat Ratatouille in its opening week). Another point against Potter is that the final book is being released soon (if not this weekend). That may bring HP's numbers down even further..

Of course, this are just my theories; anything can happen. I personally hope Transformers crushes all competition this summer.

And..again..its not just the US numbers that matter. Potter comes out before Transformers here in the UK si Transformers has the advantage here, BUT Potter is an english insitution unfortunateley so potter has a VERY strong fanbase here.

I hope that people will finally get sick of potter and go and see one of the few original non sequel movies this year. People will still go to see potter but i think now its in its 5th film its more like the parents mearly taking their kids to see it, and individual movie goers will ignore potter more and more now as...well...its getting boring now. Who cares? The final book is almost out, wel all know what happens so who cares? Whereas Transformers is an entirely NEW and fresh franchise so i think it has the upper hand. Not to mention Transformers is so much more cooler than stupid wizards and brromsticks. Better line of toys too. :P

I have a souple friends who went to see HP...they didn't like it at all. They said that the movie seemed like it was 3-hours-plus as opposed to 2:20, very slow moving and dull. Granted I'm pleased that the HP books have brought so many people back to reading- a hobby that has really diminished over the last couple decades- but I really never liked the books; just seemed very juvenile and predicatble to me. Then again I'm used to works by Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. I think fans will like the HP movie, but there seem to be more non-ans going to see TF than HP, which boes very well. Needless to say, Hollywood is going to make a killing this weekend.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

I have read some of the replies to my support for Transformers, and I respect everyones opinion, Optimus does not hate humans, nor will I. I have asked all of us that supported this movie on its opening week and weekends to support it a second week in a row to have another record under the Matrix Mantle. Optimus would be so proud of all of us.

Besides our support for a second week will more than guarantee better products and more goodies down the road. Think of it this way, its been 20 years that our beloved transformers have waited, after many encarnations of the TV series we have a movie that even if it was or was not all we dreamed to be, IT WAS THE BEST THING WE HAVE SEEN IN MANY YEARS as far as a Blockbuster, an action film, a sci-fi film, A TRANSFORMERS Film.

I respect all, but request that you oversee anything negative you have against this movie, and support it, because so far after many years of movie watching I have to say that Transformers have brought out the Kid in all of us, boy or girl, man or women, older generation, and new generation a like. I do admit the First Harry Potter was great as well, but it did not have the magic that Transformers have. What I mean by that is, that Transformers is for a new Generation of fans, what Star Wars was at least for my generation, or even E.T. was long before, even Star Trek I have to say had a huge impact in our imagination and culture. Transformers was also as inventive and dare i say it has had such impact as well.

We have a huge following, if we join like we have in the last 13 days, we can make history Remember Transformers endlessly.

Enjoy the movie a few more times, as it is an experience on its own, and help a new Generation of followers grow even more than we have in 20 years, and the many more to come.

Soon I will become one with the Matrix...

(Hears patriotic music playing in the background..."Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!")

Dude that was AWESOME! I agree with EVERYTHING you said. The movie already broke the record for non-sequel openings and July 4th sales. The more people see this, the more they will sink into future movies and products. Remember the budget on the first Spidey film? $100 million or so. Spidey 3? Three times that. The budget on the first TF movie? $150 million. THe budget on the sequel? More than that, that's for sure. The movie companies have seen now that they have a product that is a guaranteed success. My god people, think about it. THe movie's global gross the first six days was $100 million more than it's budget! They've ALREADY made a killing! And they didn't have to put any big name actors in and pay them throught the nose (granted I guarantee Shia is going to command a much heftier price tag in subsequent films.
This film identifies with so many people: the fans for creating a new continuitiy and tradition; parents, something to share with their kids and enjoy, as well as any parent who has felt embarrassed confronting their kids about their "Happy Time" :-P; the older generation, for providing entertainment without huge amounts of bloodshed, gore, and profanity; teenage boys, for Megan Fox alone. It's appeal is so broad...I have seen it three times and still intend to see it more as I see something new every time I do. I'll gladly throw my lot in with Transformers. Til All Are One!
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

Yup. The appeal of this movie is really broad. I've seen all kinds of people of all ages in the cinema. Kids, parents, girls, even grandmas and grandpas. And i was expecting mostly boys and middle-aged men.

By the way, this is the only 2nd movie I've seen where all of the audience clapped and cheered after the show. I've watched it 5 times so far, and everytime, big applause.
(The other movie was Braveheart. Seen it 4 times, same thing, big applause everytime.)

^__^ I have to say I think Transformers.. is the second best movie in all the world. I thought that it would be really good. It was making my skin tingle before I saw it.. but I never thought I'd love it THAT much.

I wish I could see it again this weekand. Alas..I must wait till later next week to see it again. Well for the third time! I've seen it twice already. And I already want to see it again. :) I've not wanted to see a movie in the theater more then once or twice for a very very long time. So yeah.. hahahhaha GO TRANSFORMERS FOREVER!

I heard they are making two sequels. Rather my friend told me. :)

I will be seeing Harry Potter. One time watching Transformers was enough for me...forever.

Although I dont think Transformers needs our support for this one. It is doing great at the box office. It is gauranteed a sequel!

Now if we can just get actual writers for this one instead of monkeys on typewriters...

No, Harry Potter doesn't have big f*in robots. But it doesn't have pee jokes for laughs, or useless cutaway sequences (I'm staring at you, Indian call-center guy). I'd call that a win for the wizard.

Of the two, for me, hands down it's Order. Better movie. Dull, compared to TF action standards, but tops in every other story department.

I'll financially support both movies again, but I'll watch Order way more times on DVD than I will TF.

But Saturday I'm dragging three of my friends to go see TF. It'll be their first viewing and my third!

I'll see OotP in theatres eventually, but not opening week. I might even wait until it gets to the dollar theatres... I didn't care much for Goblet of Fire and, IMO, the books are really going downhill. The only reason I'm going to even read Deathly Hallows is to find out how it all ends. I'm not that excited for it at all.

Meanwhile...count me in for a repeat viewing of Transformers this weekend. I'm good for another go around!

Postby keeknuts » Thu Jul 12, 2007 6:14 pm

I've seen the movie four times already, and this weekend I will be seeing Harry Potter however that will probally be the only time until it comes out on DVD. On another note I find it funny how some fans of Transformers don't go see the movie to support the fandom that they belong to. The reason I say this is because so far I've read at least 2-3 people opinions on this post of them not wanting to see the Transformers but they will go to Harry Potter. What kinda fan does that. If you do not wish to support the Transformers fandom then these people should not be on these boards wasting our time with their opinions (good or bad). I'm a fan of Transformers, Star Wars, Spiderman, X-Men, Batman, Harry Potter ect... No matter what I hear about the movies I will still go and see them so that they know just how importanat this fadnom is to me.

I'm a fan of both, and Australian, and I find your comments to be completely inaccurate.

The first four Harry Potter films are in the top 20 highest grossing films of all time in Australia.

And just because the TF movie has attracted new fans that does NOT mean they don't like Harry Potter as well.
^_^
Lol you got be kidding me...

What, people can't be Harry Potter fans AND Transformer fans?
No, maybe so that some people find magic fascinating, but most do not. You don't know what your talking about because your 15+ of age. Maybe elders like it and there the ones who rate it. Others around my age think its a lump of crap. And right now I don't here anyone talking about Harry Potter... everything is Transformers. I don't care whether it is rated top 20 grossing films, it can be rated number 1 for all I care. Almost everyone in my school thinks Harry Potter is gay, but what do you do? You follow the ratings :APPLAUSE:

Yup. Both movies are great, but Transformers is already the # 1 movie in most countries. People have never been so excited when the movie was launched. It's nostalgic. The transfans made a big contribution to the production & success of the hit.

Actualy, I LIKED the HP movies and books....until some knucklehead at my school pretended to be him. then it just seemed a bit silly.. But I probably won't see transformers again because my family doesn't like to go to movies twice.

This is my first post, by the way. :D
