Siren Prime wrote:Well the one that immediately comes to mind is Jetfire.
And Optimus turns into a flying ************ in the TF: Cybertron series (which I think is pretty stupid, but whatever). He's still cool.
Anyway bottom line, Autobots can fly.

Beast Wars Optimus wasn't an Autobot.
Besides, we're talking about G1 continuity.

Saber Prime wrote:As far as the script goes no Autobots can't fly. There are several episodes that make mention to how the Decepticons started out as "a new type of flying robot" or just mentioned that they could all fly. Autobots only have a small group of flyers the first of them being Skyfire or Jetfire depending on weather you wanna go by his cartoon or comic book name.
As far as the action of the series Autobots CAN in fact fly.
This was a constant mistake that was being done durring the entire series where they keep talking about how Autobots can't fly yet they constantly show them flying anyway. There was even an episode that went as far to have Optimus Prime fly to a battle feild and then ask for a jet pack 5 sec. after landing there.
"Um you just flew to get here, what the **** do you need a jet pack for?"
This is just one of the many things about G1 that make me not really like that series. I mean I like Transformers and G1 does get some major credit for kick starting the franchise but really it's not even that good with all the plot holes the size of Texas in it.

They were not flying. They're just jumping really really high.
Taking cue from Incredible Hulk!
Nope definatly flying. They look exactly like the Decepticons who fly in robot mode not at all like Hulk's super jump or Buzz Lightyear's falling with styal.JazZeke wrote:Auto Bot wrote:Saber Prime wrote:As far as the script goes no Autobots can't fly. Not even that. They were "falling with style"!

Spark Light wrote:People always consider it a plot hole, but it was established in one episode why the Autobots stopped flying.
Can't remember what episode, but one time one of the minibots I believe(probably Cliffjumper) got pissed off and tried to fly after the Decepticons, only to end up being tricked by Skywarp or something. They told them they couldn't fly as fast as the Decepticons so he shouldn't go after him.
So there you go. The Autobots can fly, they're just rubbish at it, so after a while, they didn't bother. The Decepticons are built for flight, and the Seekers are even faster, possibly several times so(than the autobots) in Jet mode.
As for the comics I don't believe they flew. TFs flying was established as early as Diaclone though, if you look at the old adverts.
