Courage and Repair questions

Postby Psychomud » Sun Oct 26, 2008 6:55 pm

Hi all!

Long time lurker, long time off and on player, but still pretty much a newb here! ;-)

Questions:
1) What benefit does courage have? What does it do?
2) REPAIR tactic:
2a) Does it only repair YOURSELF, only TEAMMATES, or both? (or
neither?)
2b) I read here that repair was not useful in the early part of the game. When does it become useful and how many upgrade points should I spend in it?

Thanx for taking the time to read my post and responding (or not). I have tried to lok up these answers myself but find I am just running in circles with the search function. That, and help doesn't answer these specific questions (that I have found).

Courage increases the number of attacks you'll make and the liklihood of you making one.
Repair only repairs teammates. It needs a LOT of stats to work properly, but is increased directly by Intelligence. It kicks in nicely around levels 4 and 5, as it needs speed, courage and intelligence to work well, and needs the target to have a lot of endurance, all of which see plenty of use from level 4 onwards.
When repair gets good, it gets GOOD though. Level 2 to level 9 in about 14 months, that kind of good.

At these lower levels, neither are fantasticly useful, but here goes:

Courage basicly improves your chance of getting the next move. However at this level, the RNG (random number generator, what generates all events in this game) is too random for courage to have a great effect.
Ignoring the RNG for a mement, there is no need ot have too much Courage early on, as it basicly works on the principle that the person with them ost gets dibs. as very few people have more than 2 anyway, you dont need many.

Now, repair:

Repair fixes friends only. The more repair you have, the more chance of using it. The more Intelligence you have, and the more Endurance the target has, the more damage is fixed.

Repair is compltly usless right now as very few people have endurence, and intelligence dosnt do anythign else, which leaves you at a major disadvantage.

So...is it OK to start building Endurance right now at level 0, or should I wait until I'm at a higher level?

At level 0 i'd say no, End is a good stat underated by many IMO. First concentrate on your core/feeder stats spd, str, frp but for a lvl 0 you can't go wrong with a 2 spd 2 avd setup.

Fantastic! Thanx for the GREAT advice guys!

Normally I try not to ask questions until I am at my wits end. I know sometimes the constant repeat questions can get annoying for many of you who have been here for ages.

I'm also glad about the polite honest responces! You all rock! Thanx again!

Well, I have Vader D'Etoile, who has 2 end, and not str, and i've noticed no adverse effect on his xp gain, and in talking to Tammuz, he has said that his end only charecter seems to have a significantly better survival rate than a lot of his other charecters (it's hard to have any kind of survival rate when you are constantly overwhelmed as a faction, hence why i havnt noticed the same effect), so I'd say End is well worth using at level 1.

I'd probably not bother with it at lvl 0, simply becuase the best way to play lvl 0 is to use the stats that do the most, and end only does one thing, albeit well, and much better/more universally than armor.

Heheh! Well, I will keep all my questoins here then...whch leads me to:

Earlier in this thread, firepower was mentioned as a good stat to have.

Why?

Why not use skill instead of firepower? I am operating under the presumption that skill=melee weapons, and firepower = shooting weapons, OR a combo of both for the really good stuff.

I thought skill and firepower have the exact same advantages (depending on what weapons one wants to buy). Am I wrong?

The only difference between melee and ranged weapons is their names. Neither are actually affected by skill or firepower, their power comes from the number of stats needed to wield them, it's not fed by the stats themselves. Firepower can, if you have strafe as a tactic, have an additional bonus to that, as well as increasing the number of more powerful weapons you can use.

It's worth pointing out that strafers at these low levels are somewhat rubbish, I have one, and she's barly able to keep up.

So, if given the choice to pick up the strafe tactic or avoid tactic, which is better at low levels?

Is strafe only worth it when combined with firepower?

Does any particular stat assist with the avoid tactic? (like speed maybe?)

again - thanks for the help guys - you all rock!

Speed feeds Avoid
Firepower feeds Strafe

Avoid is currently better at lower levels vs Strafe.

you don't really need FRP for strafe until you hit 6 strafe; strafe feeds upon itself much more than FRP till then, but it doesn't hurt to get FRP before hand. and by low levels they mean most of your targets are lower than level 2. if yo want to be a strafer get lots of strafe

of course if you're finding it hard to find opposition Ram or Strafe will outperform avoid since if there's 6 of you and 1 of him you're avoid rate's cut in 6 simply becuase you're not going to get attacked as often. this is why red is finding strafe so crap, and i'm finding it awesome, if i'm facing maximals i know i'm nigh guaranteed to outnumber them, BUT most of my targets are avoiders which means that it's harder to hit them with stuff other than ram/strafe, as most of my allies are avoiders too, that leaves me advantaged as i tend to have the only unavoidable attacks in a mission.

as i said to dread_wind; it all depends.

Of course they would be. Seriously - who wants to be known to carry Wheelie's weapon?

Back onn the subject of Courage and the argument that Speed / Avoid rocks socks right now - I present this unfortunate incident in favor of courage. Equally leveled, otherwise comparable, except that the bottom half of the actions is entirely Autobot (because, as I guessed and reviewed, they had more Courage).

Courage is apparently no longer just a Cowardly Dog; shall we say, Courage the Squishy Squisher? .... Most embarrassing.

i think you're over looking a couple of things; the bots have more xp, and more rammers, which means more stuns, additionally the number 2 bot scorer has no CRG

that is a very BIG bug, but i really would like to see the mission logs.

EDIT:and i agree with the whole Stun thing, but would a dd a message denoting when you stop being stunned.

EDIT2: and the theoretical max damage of the nullray is 36, assuming it is capable of the extremes it's desrciption damage, and the weileder has 10str and the target is unarmoured and has zero endurance. likewise the slingshot is 54.
