Then you must HATE G1 Megatron. He turns into a gun that just lays on the ground and does nothing unless someone picks him up and wields him. At least FOC Shockwave can fly.

Well, that's more ridiculous than anything else we're discussing here. Not to mention the fact that he changed from a GIANT robot into a small gun another bot could hold.

It amazes me that people will complain about stuff like alt modes in the newer lines, while holding everything about G1 sacred, despite the fact that there was a lot of ridiculous nonsense in G1.

Yeah, I was going to bring up something about how Cybertronian modes were poorly implemented in the Pretender lines, and that's a good segway:

Yes if you squint or take artistic liscense with the figures, they do look unique. However...there are also legs, heads, and hands exposed on nearly every figure pictured. Plus, they practically require accessories to look as "good" as they do.

And yes, there was a "realistic" Pretender, though results for Metalhawk are, well...

It's mostly the "neck" that bugs me.

Ya know, now that I think about it, I think I may have to agree with the topic, to a certain extent. I like Cybertronian modes, but Hasbro/Takara let's things slide a little too easy with they design them. They don't HAVE to look real, so an exposed something is no problem, and cohesion is an afterthought.

Question(and a last pic): If WFC/FOC figure looked as solid in alt. mode as say Cybertron Sideways, would your general dislike remain?

I like Transformers with Earth modes. I mostly collect US G1 characters, therefore I want them to be as close to cartoon accurate as possible. FOC Shockwave is acceptable to me because he was always on Cybertron in the cartoon and you can transform the figure into a gun. It's not his actual transformation, but it works for me.

But what I DON'T understand is why the WFC/FOC Cybertronian vehicles have wheels if they can hover and move in any direction.

Taken in context, they can hover for maneuvering, but they can mover faster by rolling on wheels.

Weapon: Acid Spray Gun
I agree with the OP. Well stated too (funny). Too often the cybertron modes feel like a copout, the latest being foc shockwave. "cybertronian mobile artillery mode" - Riiiiight.

Beware - the complaint police and Hasbro apologists are on to you now OP! :-$

In the comics there was a story in which he shrunk down to a gun that a human could hold!

Not just in the comic, dude. I remember an episode where Megs and Soundwave had to sneak in some sort of fascility. So, they just transformed into their altmodes... AND LET A HUMAN SECURITY GUARD CARRY THEM INSIDE!
