Can't say I'm surprised they chose to do an IDW Rodimus. Popularity aside, they can get away with two decos this way.

I just mean Arcee is the one with the track record for getting canceled. But what model are you talking about, they haven't announced an Arcee yet? They definitely aren't doing a transforming one, Takara Tomy and Hasbro would never allow that.

Optimus primal looks way too generic and not in a good way, could hardly tell it was an optimus let alone meant to be gorilla based. Missed all the tick boxes on this one.

Rodimus looks great apart from his head which is idw anyhoos, so a head swap with virtually anything and it will be cool.

Windblade looks great, hopefully some extra face plates/expressions

Ugh, that Windblade is awful. It's always disappointing when Female characters get reduced down to nothing but wank material, and especially when it's one as well written and popular as Windblade. I honestly can't believe this is an officially liscened figure.

I forgot Flame Toys was doing this to Windblade, but I'm still disappointed. It's like they don't know how to design a female robot other than "put a Windblade morphsuit on a naked human woman's body". And before anyone tries to defend that to me by citing how the male ones look: as stylized as the other model kits get, they don't exactly look like "ideal male form hyper-muscly body" with a thin coat of Transformers paint, do they? They just look like Transformers with slightly more human proportions than normal.

My only complain with her is that they basically removed all the kibbles that make her a Transformers. They should have followed the manga above a bit more closely.

In comparison to Windblade, those are FAR closer to their normal looks (squared-off blocky body parts rather than organic human curves), so I stand by what I said. Call me when they make one that looks like Arnie with panel lines.

That Optimus was basically a sexy muscle-man wearing a wetsuit. There's absolutely nothing in this design suggesting that it can transform into anything. Just a cool cyborg, not even a robot.

It reeeeally doesn't tho. Sure, it certainly doesn't look it transforms into anything, but it looks more like a suit of armor than a buff human man. Sure, it kinda vaguely has pecs and biceps, but nowhere near the absurd replication of specific shaping of human anatomy that Windblade exhibits.

Agreed. If we remove the backpack (what little of it there is) and the head crest/fan she's nothing more than the basic trope of a sci-fi fembot.

The tweets and images of Windblade have been deleted from Flame Toys' account. I wouldn't immediately conclude it has been cancelled, but it could indicate that the controversy may produce a change in design. That's speculation, as I have not seen any comment on it from Flame Toys.

Speaking personally, I very much want a Furai Windblade to go with the rest of my collection of IDW designs. But I hated this design, and I think it does a disservice to the character and the brand. Honestly, though, who cares what I think? I'm just a fan; yes, I have an emotional investment in Windblade, but she's just a fiction.

She is much more important to others, and I can't think of any authority greater than Mairghread Scott, who wrote the IDE miniseries and Til All Are One. Linking to the Flame Toys tweet, she said this on Twitter:

I mean, it's not like we're exactly short of Windblade toys at the moment, I'm sure this one non-transforming model kit's existence isn't dangerous to Windblade fans' abilities to get a plastic representation of their favourite character.

I'm also very disappointed in the reactions of some people to this kit, including Scott. Lots of "Cater to me even though I don't buy your product" and double standards, not to mention getting pointlessly mad over a plastic robot. If you don't like it then don't buy it. Simple as. Don't demand that the design be changed or the kit be cancelled because the sight of an attractive female somehow offends your delicate sensibilities; you probably weren't buying the kit anyway so your opinion on the matter is literally worth nothing. Let people who want her have her.

On a more positive note, my sole gripe with her is a lack of jet detail on her, so if I can nab her (and I really, really want to) I'm tempted to graft some removable 1/72 jet parts onto her. I'm thinking a Sea Vixen, as the twin-boom design would allow for her rather tiny fan-turbine wings to be augmented with some beautiful, long-tailed wings not dissimilar to a Luna Moth. I also kinda wanna have a go at painting on some Japanese-style tattoos onto her bodywork.
