1)I'm a Geewunner.Hard core love on G1.

2)But still LOVESSSSS Classics & generation mould, plus a few other decent Armada,Energon & Cybertron ones.

3) Dislikes BW & Bayformer (organic looking bots) to no end

4) I still hunt for G1 like a panther hunting a rabbit.I don't think anybody would be that desperate for bayformers at this time

there you have it

Are you sure you're not confusing Beast Wars with Beast Machines? Beast Wars is generally very popular among most Transfans online. Yes, there are a few who dislike it and that's fine, but 98-99% of TF fans like it. From my experience, with Beast Machines it's the other way around.

I think GeeWuner is just a term used to blanketly express your dislike for another Transformer fan who disagrees with your particular likes or line of thinking. Sure, some people are adamantly against change or moderinzation or whatever, but it kind of boils down to a simple idea:
Being tolerant and accepting means that we need to also be tolerant and accepting of ideas which may be unpopular.
One of our Seibertron geniuses once told me I had a persecution complex regarding some element of TFs that I enjoyed that apparently they did not. I have no such complex, but resorting to fling psychological problems around in defense of your interest that I don't share seems to be pretty desperate for acceptance in my estimate. No one should vehemently hate the Bay movies because they are only movies, and people do say the most ignorant things about Bay. But if you are tolerant of different religions, you can't just accept Christianity and Judaism. You also need to accept Islam, and Wicca, and Hinduism and everything else, even if it's praying to a stone or if it's Satanism. Being accepting and tolerant isn't only being so as regards the things that don't bother you, but even being as accepting as possible towards things that do bother you.
On the note, GeeWuner is a term that is used to label someone as a witch in the 21st century Salem of Transformers fandom. People scream GeeWuner like it's an insult or a slam at a person on a personal level, convinced that the screamer is a righteous force of justice in the TF universe. Is it stupid for a person to be so adherent to G1 that they reject all subsequent TF incarnations, or that they are so attached to Prime's color scheme that flames ruin the character for that person? No, it isn't, as much as people want to act like it is, it isn't. It's no more stupid than thinking the Bayverse designs are the best. 25 years from now, are we going to be calling people Bayversers or something else as a derogatory term? Probably, because there will be something new, and in their eternal struggle to be hip on the Internet people will need a new term to classify old foggies who are so defiant as to prefer something that isn't what's popular the most right now.
I love G1, so tough on you that I have my own preference. I'm good all the way through the AEC trilogy. I didn't care for Animated, and I didn't like ROTF. Why that hurts you personally so deeply that you need to label me a GeeWuner, I dont know, but I don;t lose any sleep over it, and I don't feel like less of a person for it. You're just using it to label me as a dissident or a malcontent because my favorite isn't your favorite.
So who needs the validation more: me, because I happen to prefer my Optimus Prime with a trailer, or you for name calling because I don't prefer your Optimus Prime who has an ax or flames?

I should have said "Beast Era". I usually mean the Beast Era as a whole, not just Beast Wars. Beast Wars was awesome. Beast Machines I think went slightly in the wrong direction, but I don't think it's really a horrific tragedy. It's still Transformers whether one likes it or not. And you're right about the BW popularity, although I actually think more people accept it now than when it was new. TF fans just don't embrace change very well. I'm looking at you, Bay-haters.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

I plead to all to take the time to read this post. This discussion has, of course, as always, turned into a mess of a fist fight. We're missing the point:
1. Smoketreader (sorry to bring up your name) was curious as to what the "GeeWunner" term specifically meant, and if these people actually exist.
2. I think we are more dissatisfied with the "GeeWunners" who complain to the fanbase about aspects TF evolution, not those who just don't like other continuities besides G1 but don't feel the need to complain.
3. I think the term "GeeWunner" is supposed to be more satirical than offensive, but we just make it offensive.
4. The "GeeWunner" term is supposed to apply to those who don't enjoy any other continuity besides G1 and G1 classic reboots, not those whose favorite continuity is G1, but still like any others in some way. Most people say "G1 fan" for them, and seems to be a self proclaimed title to some.
5. I recommend to "G1 fans" that they don't call themselves "GeeWunners" because they will most likely be criticized by the close minded people that will probably either not see this post, just dismiss it, or think I'm full of slag (a lot of people do think I'm full of slag).
6. Why must we label and put negative connotations on people? Live and let live! Don't reincarnate the Salem witch trials. Also, refer back to #3.
7. Personal advice to the real "GeeWunners" (and Bay-haters/Bay-bashers): If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all. You may get yourself into a big pile of slag with the community.
8. Not to sound sacrilegious, but look at the big picture. We're arguing insanely over action figures, television programs, movies, and comic books! C'mon people!
Think about this and if you don't like what I have to say, fine. I don't care, just don't point fingers at me. That is all I ask. I will be posting a thread soon that relates to this that I want people to think about.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

I thought I summed up the history and usage of "Geewunner" quite well here ...

Burn wrote:To sum things up basically.

"Geewunner" would have started post-BW/BM and would have applied to those (few at the time) people who couldn't get past the "trukk not monkey" thing.

Once the movies hit "Geewunners" became more prevailant as more older fans came out of the woodwork and took on an even more derogatory term around that time.

Probably in the last year or so it's become less derogatory, because as previously said in this thread, Hasbro are trying to cater to the more vocal "Geewunners" with the Classics/Generations stuff.

Thank you, again, to everyone.I guess this thread has lived out the term of its' natural life. That's really cool 'cuz it all managed to get to the end in a civil way.

I think it's a shame that the GWNRs (I invented an abbreviation-I hope they think it's cool! Heheh!) had to move along to somewhere else. I guess that staying around here watching us enjoy the antitheses (from certain points of view) to what they anticipated/projected/foresaw would be distasteful for them to just grin and bear, or turn a blind eye to.

Yes, technically, refusing to see the traits of G1-in-the-child-of-G1 is backward and beyond. It's an incapability to celebrate the legacy of something that is wanted to have a legacy: contradiction of ones' own ideals: Recipe for alienization to current events as well as past ones. That is: they asked for it, tragically.

For the record, I reckon that they do deserve recognition, (from us, specifically) and credit (from everyone involved in TFs) for having stood up and yelled out against the changes that they considered detrimental to [our hobby] in view of the information they had available at the time.

Today, some years later, we all get to see what came of it all, so we're cooler with it all, but back then-let's admit it: putting flames on Optimus was a condition:yellow alert scenario, especially since there was no news as to what Hot Rod/imus was doing, and no official declaration that it was not a G1 show, but instead, statements that it "will feature G1 (I think is what they said) but some things will be changed slightly." (To which we assumed Megzy and Soundwave will get size-correct Altmode revamps and that's the end of that warning).

For what those guys had to work with, and in light of how much they DIDN'T know would happen from then 'till now, I feel that their defense of the hobby was honorable, even tho one or two of them broke into a home for idiotic reasons-(but the punishment here just like everywhere else for failing to represent the laws of a community is exile, and those two are no-names now, for all their 'glorious' action).

Anyway, my whole closing (I assume) point is that these people believed in what they stood up for (and yet, conviniently, also what they were demanding unconditionally) to the point that, metaphorically, they took it to their 'TF hobby graves' before they allowed themselves to be sold out and changed their stances. Technically, they are 'TF Hobby heroes' right up there with the ILM Banzai guy who saved Optimus from his fat head movie appearance, and even Seibertron himself for giving Megzy a campaign too!, and I reckon, since they paid for it with their 'TF hobby lives', they deserve to have that said about them.

Oh, and don't anybody say "They can be the 'TF hobby Spartans'". (I'm Spartan [in part]. They're not. They want Spartan, they can go forum-flame it from somebody and then steal a laptop over it.All they get from me is a requiem, since I'm still infidel to them anyway for liking more than just G1).Nuts to them for that.
"Everyone has a hobby.Even people who say they don't still have one under another name.If we're sick, injured, we still go to it and get down to see how it is.If it needs something, we bring it,make sure the attention is perfect. It exercises our care and protection and gives us back philosophies. It's a living thing to us,and is the most perfect way to teach a young person how to be towards a living thing. It's something that should never be taken away."

So, before anyone jumps me for not reading the thread, I am admitting that I got to the end of page 2 and felt a need to say just a little thing before I read on.

I saw the 86 movie in the theater, I only say that to show when I got into this Franchise.

I started collecting again with alternators (good geewuner gateway drug, let me tell ya)
I went to the movie in 2007 expecting to fall in love with it.
I didn't
I was actually put off, mostly by the large GM commercial going on inside. that said. Prime was
Prime and Megatron was Megatron, starscream sounded great and bumblebee/ironhide/ratchet were sucky but livable.
I was more "meh" about it than outraged.

ROTF left me angry and I felt one of my heroes was "ruined forever" to quote from before. now when I watch ROTf I pretend Sideswipe is movie Tracks and I feel better.
After time for it to soak in I realized that I could let the movies be just the movies. mostly because out of it we got classics 2.0 and ROTF Bludgeon who is lovely
and other things that I love.

and now I am excited about movie 3. finally we have something I wanted from the earlier movies, a wide range of Autobot vehicle styles and no megan fox. XD
oh and I have learned not to take it seriously cause it's a damn movie.

to sum it up I love the beast wars cartoon (the toys disinterest me)
and RID
and animated
all of which I wouldn't have tried without the movies.

so I live with what I dislike about them and see it as opportunity for things like Turbo Tracks who is en route to my house as we speak via Ebay. and Smolder who I am purely in love with. (no homo)

so viva la LAM-verse!

It's kind of been put on the backburner in a way. If you look at the classic lines we've been getting, there are only several BW characters released in each line. Plus, most new fans aren't familiar with it because of the majority of the continuities being vehicle/machine based. We also still have plenty "Trukk Not Munkys" who dismiss BW altogether, thinking all TFs should be vehicles.
I'm still waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for a good variety of BW character reboots. Surprisingly, I didn't find an interest in TF until Unicron Trilogy was out. I just want to experience the same fun other fans did before I became a fan. That is why I also encourage RID, Unicron Trilogy, and G1/G2 reissues.

Well, let's face it. BW had some pretty awesome toys. They didn't need much updating compared to G1.

Still probably the high point of the franchise, there.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.
