Are you sure you're not confusing Beast Wars with Beast Machines? Beast Wars is generally very popular among most Transfans online. Yes, there are a few who dislike it and that's fine, but 98-99% of TF fans like it. From my experience, with Beast Machines it's the other way around.

"Geewunner" would have started post-BW/BM and would have applied to those (few at the time) people who couldn't get past the "trukk not monkey" thing.
Once the movies hit "Geewunners" became more prevailant as more older fans came out of the woodwork and took on an even more derogatory term around that time.
Probably in the last year or so it's become less derogatory, because as previously said in this thread, Hasbro are trying to cater to the more vocal "Geewunners" with the Classics/Generations stuff.

It's kind of been put on the backburner in a way. If you look at the classic lines we've been getting, there are only several BW characters released in each line. Plus, most new fans aren't familiar with it because of the majority of the continuities being vehicle/machine based. We also still have plenty "Trukk Not Munkys" who dismiss BW altogether, thinking all TFs should be vehicles.
I'm still waiting...and waiting...and waiting...for a good variety of BW character reboots. Surprisingly, I didn't find an interest in TF until Unicron Trilogy was out. I just want to experience the same fun other fans did before I became a fan. That is why I also encourage RID, Unicron Trilogy, and G1/G2 reissues.
