I was left in cars as a kid, only for a few minutes, 15 at tops, even when I was a wee baba and onwards since, and my mums like, the most overprotective person ever, I guess it dosnt count as it's not so hot here in the UK. But I cannot ever imagen someone doing that in a hot place like the sunny USA. Hell, I dont even leave TFs in a hot car!

They should have a law that prevents stupid people from breeding, especially with each other! Or is that morally wrong?....

If they took everyone's bits away until they passed an aptitude test, a lot of the world's problems would be solved.

It's true.

You need a license to get married. You need a license to drive.
A license to fish, a license to hunt.

But you don't need one to create a lifeform.

Thats messed up.

You know, before you leave the hospital you have to bring in a car seat and show that you know how to use it. They need to teach you a LOT more than that! If you go to a meat sale, go ahead and bring the baby in the store. There's this nifty little place for the baby to sit in the cart. That way they don't die outside in the heat. How difficult is that? I know it's a pain to bring a baby everywhere you go--I have to do that with my own. But I won't leave him in 90 or 100 degree weather when I go buy meat. 8-}

Well, that's at the military hospital, at least. And we army folk are notorious for neglecting our babies. :( I don't know if it's because we tend to be young or have several children, or if it's because our husbands are gone all the time...but there's no excuse for it. I had to drive my own ass to the hospital when I was in labor with my second baby, and I had to take care of him and a young toddler with very little help. If I can do it without neglecting or injuring my babies (and I was 21 when the second was born), anyone can. Hell, I might have MS and I'm still hanging in there AND my husband is away training. These girls are just LAZY.

They shouldnt need to teach people that stuff! It's really not that hard! Dont leave your kid in a hot car, dont drop it on it's head and dont try to heat it up in the microwave if its got a cold! I read somewhere they are going to have to teach new fathers how to bath a baby before it's allowed to leave the hospital, honestly. *strangely they think moms automatically know how to do this* Do they truly think that people are so stupid? Sure, some people are, but the odds are thier kids will be stupid too.... What is going on in the world?

I agree, but think about it for a second...that license would apply to everyone.

If you wanted a kid and you had your act together (not saying you don't, btw) and you've gone and gotten everything ready, etc...and then you were denied the ability to conceive because of law....wouldn't you be angered beyond belief?

If children are born to bad households, they should be removed. No one should be told whether or not they can have a baby though.

People talk about it as casually as you would about getting a pet spayed or neutered. "We have to senselessly slaughter millions of homeless and unwanted cats and dogs every year, and now it's becoming a human problem. Spay or neuter yourself so we don't have to slaughter unwanted babies. Babies: Only You Can Prevent Them"

....see how ridiculous that sounds?

And on the topic of leaving children in the car...that bullcrap of "I'm so sorry...I simply forgot! I swear, my mind wasn't all there!" *BUZZ* Incorrect. You knew how to make one. You knew how to put the baby in the car seat, you knew how to bilk Welfare over the baby's existence...you *KNEW* the baby was in the car with you!

And people saying "I love my kids, but sometimes it's a hassle and I'd just rather not go shopping because I have all this stuff to carry, like bags, a carrier, etc...sometimes it's just too much!"

...you should've thought about that before you made the baby.
If it's still a problem, then remove yourself from the situation and give the child to a family that *will* love and care for it.

I've dated women with kids before and they never forgot that their children were in the car. Yes, children can drive you nuts with the things they do, but their unconditional love in return is more than able to outweigh the negatives.

Nobody loves you like your children do, they're the only ones on this planet who truly love you unconditionally and without a hidden agenda.

...shouldn't you love them just the same?

The first thing we need to do is make contraception extremely available and FREE. That would help a lot. Didn't you hear about that condom giveaway in Washington DC? It's very successful. Now they need higher quality condoms, because they are supposedly very fragile, but the idea is right. The Pill should be free, as well as the shot, tubal ligation, etc. This would also cut down the need for abortion. For me, my BC is free, and you bet I take advantage of that.

I didn't know squat about babies when I got pregnant, and had no experience with newborns. I learned everything I could and it was trial and error after that. But I don't put my babies in danger. They are fed on a regular schedule, had warm, clean places to sleep, are bathed nightly, etc. Whatever goes through your head when you decide to leave an infant in a hot car for ANY period of time longer than a minute is beyond my comprehension. The thought of it just makes me so sad for these poor babies.

The problem is that people have kids and take advantage of welfare, when their lazy asses can and should get a job. "Oh I have a kid, I can't work, poor me, Government please be my provider." I don't like the thought of paying taxes and supporting a bunch of low-class scum because they're too **** lazy to hold down a job. But of course I also don't think unmarried people should be having kids in the first place. There's a reason it takes a man and a woman to conceive.

Free birth control should help. There's the whole moral issue, but that's an issue between an individual and whatever God or code or church they believe in. But I'm all for some kind of parent license. The world is populated enough, we don't need to keep increasing in number to the breaking point (if we're not already past the breaking point).

I wish people would have kids only if they were married and had a stable environment (or at least both parents in the same home), but that will never happen, not the way our society is anymore. The one good thing about the army is that you don't get the benefits if you ain't married. So most young people with children are actually married, much higher than the percentage in the general population.
Maybe we should force teenagers to use BC. Seriously. I wonder how that would help the population, especially in the poorer regions. Maybe if they are started at around 15 or 16, they'll continue to use it as adults. Maybe....but in any case, the "abstinence only" doesn't work and never will. So let's toss that idea forever. Contraception has to be taught and available.

I have no trouble with the 'parenting test' idea. Sounds good.
Heck, my wife and I were 30 before we had our first kid. And it was still rough. I can't imagine having had two before the age of 22. I don't think we would have made it.
My two girls would not allow you to forget they're in the car! How someone can do this is beyond me. I saw a dog in a parked car today, with the window cracked. That pissed me off as well. It was over 90 degrees today!
Some people are too stupid to live.

Moonbase, I understand where you're coming from in regards to the abstinence issue; with Hollywood and other forms of media treating casual sex as a good thing, tainting the minds of children who follow Hollywood's garbage-laden programs, abstinence is essentially an uphill battle. Then there's the government, who hands out welfare checks to every single mother too lazy to actually get a job. That's a whole other can of worms.

However, its a battle worth fighting; do you want your children to have constant casual sex instead of waiting for the right person, catching STDs all the way? After all, contraceptions don't protect against HIV, AIDS or the other nasty stuff. Even if they use contraceptions, said contraceptions don't always work; do you want your children trapped in a socio-economic nightmare?

Back on topic: While I agree that the people who leave children in cars don't deserve to have kids, the government doesn't have the right to "remove their bits". Sure, it would have good intentions, but you know what they say about the road to Hell. Besides, most social programs that the government engages in flop. Remember the War on Poverty? There's still poverty, last I checked. Then there's the whole issue of the slippery slope and how the government would be intruding more and more into the lives of the people that it is supposed to protect. That's my only issue with the parenting test.

That's a tricky one. I'm hardly a socialist, but single mothers busting their behinds to earn some money for their kid(s) can sometimes be a bad thing. Who will raise the kid(s) when mum is working? It's always best for -especially little- children to have their actual parents raising them instead of some nanny or even worse, after-school daycare *shudders*. Not much good comes out of that; kids need their parent(s). So those welfare checks for single mothers ain't necessarily a bad thing.

After all, contraceptions don't protect against HIV, AIDS or the other nasty stuff.

What the hell? Condoms don't work against AIDS?!
Ratzinger, is that you?

Incompetent, lazy and/or criminal people should not contribute to the genepool (of course there could be exceptions -we need screening to decide those) as far as I'm concerned. A license for having babies sounds like a good idea to me.

Abstinence will never, ever work. When we hit puberty, the little part of our brain switches on to compel us to mate...which to teens, is translated into, SEX!!!!! It is a natural thing. Unfortunately, teenagers lack the knowledge to manage what they are doing most of the time. Without sex ed, diseases don't even come into mind. Half the time pregnancy doesn't either. So we must teach them. Diseases are preventable, but they aren't gonna go anywhere anytime soon. So let's not shove an idea of abstinence (especially when it has religious overtones) down their throats. They aren't going to listen, anyway. Most of us lost our virginity as teenagers. Hell, I was 16, and I was a "good kid".

Welfare is intended to help get someone back on their feet. When a mother doesn't have a man to help (another topic of another of society's ills) welfare can help get her to where she needs to be. It should not be considered as long-term income. But anything can be abused, and it often is.
