However, a counterargument would be that other episodes would sometimes show Shrapnel as the de facto Insecticon leader, so... yeah.

I really wouldnt see that an an effective counter....

Shrapnel isint even a "suspect" in the mystery of who became Cyclonus.

I mean, they could say that, based on that evidence, Bombshell wasn't the Insecticons' leader and that because he wasn't it hurts his likelihood of having been rebuilt into Cyclonus instead of Skywarp.

It still wouldnt be an effective counter.

despite what might or might not be in the bios/tech specs, the Insecticons had no "named" leader in the show, and even if he wasnt the leader of that group, I dont see that hurting his likely hood of being Cyclones the 2nd in command.

Based on the depictions in the toon,Bombshell would have either been ther leader,CO LEADER or the second in command of the team. Its not hard to see either then becoming 2nd in command of the entire army.

My logic has always been this: Unicron can't change who a Transformer is but he can bring them back to life as someone else. When Megatron became Galvatron, he didn't change in his personality he just got roided up and his insanity was because of being fried in the lava after the Movie. If Skywarp wasn't dead yet, he'd have suddenly been in a strong new body surrounded by strangers face to face with the Cybertronian equivalent of Satan or Cthulhu raising the dead around him. He then did the only sensible think for him to have done: teleported as far away as he could and just kept running.

The best part about that theory is it's in line with the 3H Wreckers stories as seen here.

Interesting theory. But by your same logic that unicron didnt change the cons as far as personality youve gotta ask why a bot like bombshell who was far from loyal as you can be would suddenly become one of the most loyal if not the most loyal decepticon ever.
That is actually another reason I believe skywarp became cyclonus that I failed to mention. Loyalty.
Cyclonus is extreemely loyal to galvatron. More loyal than skywarp was? Maybe. More loyal than bombshell was? HA!! Absolutely!
So because I agree that the bots retained their personalities and changed in form and stats alone I have yet another reason to believe cyclonus is skywarp.

Man, I leave a thread for a little bit...

My answer to this problem is in my first post. Skywarp wasn't dead but Bombshell was. Unicron brought Bombshell back as someone else (someone far more loyal) while Skywarp stayed Skywarp just with a new body. As whatever loyalties Skywarp had were to Megatron and there is no Megatron to be found (none of the Decepticons at the coronation ceremony recognized him after becoming Galvatron either) and given the HOLY SH!T, THE ELDER GOD DEVIL IS RAISING AN ARMY OF THE UNDEAD factor at the time, Skywarp would have no reason not to run away.

As for why he didn't return to Earth or Cybertron, he had no idea how long he was drifting through space and no idea where he was. He was lost in space and possibly running in a blind panic.

I think that's just more interesting than him being plotholed out of existence.

all it took was a for Galvatron to say a few words for that "1 decepticon" to recognize him.............I would call that "immediately"

Why not before he said those few words? Admittedly, that was but a few seconds, but still. ;)

the way I see it, he caught the hint just looking at him, the words spoken just made it clearer for him.

The WORST moment in transformers history. Had screamer never caught that "hint" he would have lead the decepticons in a victorious battle against the unicronians and then went on to defeat the autobots and unicron both.
He would have commanded the matrix melted down and made into a chalis for leasurly sipping of energon from his throne crafted of autobot parts.
Yeah thats how that would have went. If only he would have ducked.
Seriously though, I always kind of thought there were many many seekers wandering about much like the sweeps. For that reason, I considered the seekers present at the coronation to be generic seekers and not skywarp and t. cracker.
Still, For them to be blue and purple is a bit ironic......Perhaps it was an animation error.

In your dreams maybe.

As much as I loved Starscream, the cartoon version of the character was an incompetent coward.
