Something that occured to me as a stop-gap (and way to gauge how popular the best factions are) would be to make Maximals and Preds subgroups within the G1 factions that a player could select on joining the game. For example, someone joining as an Autobot would then be able to select from, say, Autobot, Maximal and Dinobot. The only thing this would alter would be which faction symbol shows up for them; As far as all games mechanics are concerned the hypothetical player in question would be an Autobot.

Now, i'm not a programmer so I don't know how feasible this is, but there it is.

Honestly, I think that should be the way most factions are handled anyway, keep it to good vs evil, and make the actual faction name just a superficial change. The only reason for an entirly different faction is if it is felt worth adding some Unicron based faction, or other factions that cannot be easily defined as good or evil.

Burn has a point about the "Rorschachs" allowing more freedom. I doubt you'd get anyone claiming G1 Mixmaster as an Ice Cream truck with more detailed alts.

Another concern with more detailed alts is server strain. The plain, single coloured images use less bandwith and given than HMW can put a heck of a strain on servers at times it would be preferrable to keep the file size on images down.

I wasn't aware the ads were hosted on the same server as Seibertron.

In any case, it was something I felt needed mentioning. I personally prefer the current style alts but as long as the selection is large ,includes beast modes and allows for themed teams then I'll be happy with them.

English dude!

As far as server strain goes, one of the big points of a new version of HMW is to bring the code up to modern standards. The current code is written poorly and is the main cause of server strain.

The file size of the alts will be quite small. Less than 10KB each. I have enlisted the help of the rest of the team to help with various projects outside of the programming. They will be in turn asking the community to help in various ways. I want this to be everyone's game. Please wait until they ask for the help in certain areas as we are not trying to overload ourselves with everything at once. I know that there are probably lots of awesome Ideas out there and some may make it into the release and some may not, but please be cooperative with the mods on these issues. We are getting closer and closer with each day.

Whelp, here we go again! :roll:

Don't worry, I'm giving MP the benefit of the doubt, so first and foremost, welcome, good luck, and here is a beer glass raised to you for taking up the torch. Props to starting from scratch...erm, again...with all of this, and I sincerely feel whatever you produce will be an upgrade to what we have available now.

Annnd now to the ideas/comments/input.

Gameplay:
I'm with Burn as well on this, dump the regular missions and lets just see the map missions and challenge arena. I would definitely love to pit fights against individual players, esp if we can fight within our own faction. Just something to really rev up the competitive gameplay AND we wouldn't be limited to fighting the opposition (in the arena).
With map missions, frankly if its only 2 factions at the start, I'm fine with that; lets get the game out and then worry about adding in more factions and the like.

Graphics:
Definitely some Alt updates would be nice, and I'm sure the community can help with that one. I think we had a huge rally last time we did this, and it worked out great, so why not again?

Logic:
For the love of everything please start from scratch on weapons and armour. Having to dig into linear algebra just to figure out what the stats were was frigin' ridiculous! My vote would be basing it on a simple formula from an already existing structure, such as D&D, so people can do the math without too much headache.
Also, a full listing of what item gives you what stats would be a great plus. Not having that listed I think turned off some people because they couldn't figure out what weapon gave you what kind of stat +/-.
Speaking of +/- stat mods, that would be a lovely addition. For example, a fusion cannon would be a +8 hit, however also giving a -3 speed and -5 recharge. (Granted this is just an example, I am not aware of what stats you are bringing into the game and how.)

Just my 2 pennies. :P

so are all challenge arena battles going to be 0xp or is it just infaction ones? what about making arena battles just about energon? I mean that's what boxing/wrestling/mma is about in real life... money.

oh and congrats on the new position MP, i'm looking to forward to what you've got in store for us.

edit* also i'm all for the upgraded character graphics... hope there will be a significant amount of choices for the robot modes too.

well my idea was really meant in the event that they are going worth 0xp anyway. And i guess i meant the idea in general to be more about wagering bets on each battle you fight (kind of like how battle beasts gambling was) you could maybe get odd multiplyers depending on how strong your opponent is compared to you.

ex.
opponent is of equal level - bet x1
opponent is +1 level - bet x1.25
opponent is -1 level - bet x.75

and before anyone says anything MP said there will be alot more exp levels than before so i doubt the arena would function on only battles of equal level.

I haven't decided how I want this to pan out yet. I don't mind the ideas, just don't think anything is set in stone yet. Once I have planned this out I will let you guys know how it's going to go. Right now we are working on the main part of the game with the programming, missions, map and a whole ton of graphics and tactics. This ball is rolling I plan on having the whole game out by November, December at the absolute latest.

So what support will there be for casual play?

I quite like that I can just drop my characters into the missions and not have to worry about it, and I don't really have the time to spend hours at the computer every day constantly playing. So what options will there be for those of us who can't log on all day every day?

I have a couple of ideas but if anyone has any ideas on how to address this i'd love to hear them.

what would necessarily change? maybe pick a spot on the map instead of click a mission? all it would really take. replace how we currently see/join missions with a map of cybertron, each sector is a mission. instead of "support the crackhead troops" or whatever the current missions are it becomes "attack/invade Darkmount". same principles as we have now but with a new skin.

but i'm probably way over simplifying. but it sounds simple enough.

also i was thinking (insert joke here). maybe have a system of if a side wins x number of consecutive missions or wins a certain % of missions the sector becomes your sides, and have that give a boost like extra xp, or energon
