Microsoft's best apology ever

Postby Shadowman » Sat Mar 22, 2008 5:32 am

Motto: "May God have mercy on my enemies, because I sure as hell won't."
Let's start at the beginning:

Nathaniel here had a crap-ton of signatures on his 360 casing. And we're talking about some good ****, art by Luke McKay, signatures from everyone who matters, so on.

One day, when his launch-day 360 died, he sent it in.

All of it was removed. It was either washed, so the casing was replaced.

After this sad, sad incident, Bungie, who had no hand in this matter, sent the best damn gift box ever. Look at those pictures. You'd forge signatures and hit your 360 with a sledgehammer for that, don't lie.

Well, if that wasn't enough, Microsoft calls back. With an equally kick-ass gift bag. A new 360, loaded with new signatures and art, a face-plate signed by Bill "God" Gates, DMC4, Lost Odyssey, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Gears of War, Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom, and a signed picture of Bill "God" Gates.

Well...that's some damn fine customer service.

All I have to say is WOW. Too bad that doesn't happen to everybody that sends their 360 in.

I would call that a well deserved apology. Brings a tear to my eye...not really.

To be honest, he should've expected that was going to happen. If the engineers didn't just replace his XBox with a new one, who are they to care? They're paid to just fix it and send it back. I don't like XBox or Microsoft, but it was nice they provided him with something to say they're sorry.

Glad you posted this. I read the original story and was aghast. Even after making sure with the rep that it wouldn't be modified, twice no less, and after he wrote a letter and enclosed it in the coffin as well, they still cleaned it all off. Keep in mind folks that it was all on there in Sharpie marker. The guy cleaning it had to have taken 80% rubbing alcohol and spent the better part of a half hour to get all of that off. Now that just screams of angry factory worker.

So I'm very glad things worked out the way they did.

QFT. Sadly, I've had to work with a lot of people like this, I'm sure we all have. Being a sentimental guy myself, this is a heartbreaking story, and nothing gets to me more than people who have no regard for other people's treasures. At least Mircosoft did go out of their way to right this wrong. Still, the lofty tales this Nathan fellow could tell with an Xbox that has seen two years of travel cannot be replaced.

No, they probably didn't even open the box. They're probably just in the routine of throwing away those boxes and just sending a new one. They probably get hundreds of broken units and just tossed it like normal. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

Mine does, and he is VERY disgusted.

Could've been worse. He could have brought a gun in and started shooting people. And no one likes that.

Not true. The console came back with the same serial number as the one he sent in. There were even a few smudges of sharpie on the corners.

Microsoft is 'supposed' to send you your original unit back and in rare cases will give you a new one or another refurbed one.

Well in that case, the best apology Microsoft could give would be to have the guy who did that brought into a huge public square, on live TV, and have the kid come out and smack him across the face.

Better yet, smack him with one of those high quality Plasma Rifle replicas.
