I know a good part of the backstory, but MY GOD this screams out "Terminator" so much John Conner might as well be the Red Ranger.

or the prelude to the matrix (which in my mind the terminator series is.)

Watch the series in it's entirety...reminded me not one bit of either franchise.

I have seen all of RPM and I am sad to say that I wasn't that impressed.

The first episode confused me like crazy. The guys who would become Rangers Black and Green ("Dillon" and Ziggy) were the main focus of the episode. In fact, Rangers Red, Blue, and Yellow (who are supposed to be the main team) didn't show up to morph until the end credits started playing! They gave no backstory to any of the three until several episodes later.

And that's another thing. for the strangest unknown reason, they don't call them the "Red Ranger," "Blue Ranger," etc. They're called "Ranger Red," "Ranger Blue," or "Series Red," "Series Blue," or even "Ranger Operator Series Red," "Ranger Operator Series Blue," etc. Why the sudden change?

Also, one of main subplots of the series never got fully resolved: Dillon's identity.

And, they never once state when the series takes place. Aside from SPD, every previous series took place in the year that it aired in (MMPR: 1993 to PRJF: 2008, PRSPD was in 2025), yet RPM seemed to be further in time from 2009. Yet they never told us when it occurs.

And, I wish they had given some explanation of Venjix's name. This name had previously been used for General Venjix, the leader of the last few remaining generals of the Machine Empire that were seen in the PRWF 10th Anniversary episode Forever Red (the one with 10 Red Rangers). Since this name had been used before and since the enmeies were all machines, many thougth that villains of RPM would be connected to the Machine Empire from Zeo. But since they weren't, I've been wanting to know why the Venjix virus has the same name as General Venjix. Did they ever tell us why? Nope! (but I guess I figured they wouldn't , since it was just one episode the general appeared in, but to reuse such an uncommon villain name does bring up such questions)

However, I cannot deny that there was one thing that impressed me: the RPM Ultrazord. The first ever PR Megazord (in fact, the first ever Super Sentai mecha) to be assembled by TWELVE zords! Meaning it takes four Megazords to form this thing! Each one formed by three individual zords. That alone is impressive.

The High Octane Megazord + the Valvemax Megazord = the Zenith Megazord
The Zenith Megazord + the Mach Megazord = the SkyRev Megazord
The SkyRev Megazord + the Paleomax Megazord = the RPM Ultrazord
And then there's a 13th zord called the Road Attack Zord, which is basically a new zord tyhat is based off the Warrior Wheel from Zeo. It doesn't combine with the others, however, but it can be used as a weapon by the others, though.

And from what I understand, Go-Onger had three more mechs that made one more Megazord-like mecha, but I think it only appeared in the Go-onger movie, so its absense from RPM is excusable.

I have recently seen all of Kamen Rider Ryuki and it is very dark compared to Power Rangers.

I've also seen all of its American adaptation, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, and it is 100 times better than any Power Rangers series! And while it may have been a watered down version of Ryuki, I still loved it and actually prefer it over Ryuki. While Ryuki was cool, I found it a tad bit too depressing for my enjoyment.

The Last Renaissance in the Animatrix (Which the Wachowskis accept as canon) actually puts that theory in the ground. Rather than a single AI suddenly taking over and hitting the world with as many nuclear weapons as it could connect to, for the Matrix it was a very long chain of events beginning with Machine persecution, continuing with more machine persecution, and ending with a war the humans really shouldn't have started.

Roadbuster wrote:I remember trying to find those toys during the first year. One Spring break, me and my brother were at our grandparents and we went to TRU to look for PR toys. We opted t trya waiting list figuring it was worht a try. he just opted for the Megazord (chances were slim of getting one.) We look around, our grandmother came abck and said it was in a big box. We didn't get what she emant until we went upt ehre and saw they had one that had beenr eserved but the person who reserved it did not come when called. So we got it by pure luck. The Megazord back then was $35.

The draognzord we found a year later when it was briefly brought back into circulation under a limited run, following the three-part green ranger episodes. And got that. Titanus was extreemly hard to find since there was still demand for him in season 3 when it returned. Was the only one we never got.

Looking back, I do agree that Dragonzord by itself was not much. You at least got a Green Ranger figure out of it. You only got the full playability out of it when you had the Megazord to allow the additional use of the Dragon Megazord and the Mega Dragonzord combo. However, the drill weapon sucked because the way the hands were molded would not allow the zord to handle it. You basically had to hold it and make stupid motions with the zord in the other hand like it was using it.

The problem was that Power Rangers was so popular that the waiting lists were ridiculously long, as you never really saw anything on the shalves until close to season 2 and by that point, the season 2 stuff had started to circulate. Thunderzords, for the first few months up to the preview event were plentiful and then became difficult to find, though somewhat easier. I recall the White Tigerzord being the hardest to find of the season 2 zords. Tor was commonplace since it only appeared in a few episodes.

I found the toys up in the attic a few eyars ago before my mom moved and didn't think to pull them out and hold onto them, especially the older zords and White Tigerzord. Surprisingly, the batteries we had inside Tor and the white Tigerzord still worked though Tor sounded like it had better days. The White Tigerzord's sounds and lights ran fine as it had been sitting inside Tor all those years. At least some kid was probably happy after getting the stuff from goodwill.

As for the series itself, looking abck, it wasn't that great. it was just something edited together with scenes that clearly did not fit. But as a kid, you didn't question this. You wanted to see your favorite ranger beat the badguy and watch the robots beat the bad guy, and in some cases, just wanted to sit and drool at the hotness of the pink ranger. I do agree that some of the recent series, after glancing through them, were better as there was definately some form of story continuity rather than it being episodic.

I loved the power rangers toys that i did have. I hated how the rangers couldnt hold weapons in their hands. Power Rangers were prolly not near as Bad as the Super Human Samurai toys. they looked cool but were ****

Due to personal circumstances, I may not be able to do a comparison of this weekend's episodes.

However, I checked the schedule for what episodes are to be shown this weekend. Like last weekend, the first episode will be a repeat of previous weekend's second episode (in this case, episode 7 will air again).

Therefore, the weekend after this one may feature a double comparison like the first weekends were (last weekend was the first single comparison).

So, do not be surprised if there is no episode comparison this weekend.

I apologize for any inconvience this may cause you.

Yes and no. RPM is officially the last series. Now they're doing a "remastering" of the original series, and from what I understand, it isn't going well.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Disney doesn't seem to be too keen on finishing anything that isn't one of their core properties.

Volumes 1 and 2 of RPM did make it to DVD, but they only have 5 episodes each. 3 and 4 are supposed to be Amazon.com exclusives, but have yet to be released, and if they're anything like the first two, they'll only have 5 eps a piece too.

That still leaves 12 episodes of a 32 ep season, out in the cold.

I just watched all of RPM. (Much thanks to our friends at YouTube) And to put things in perspective, I started watching all of it Friday, and I just finished it today. It's very good. I would have liked a few more shout-outs (Though I laughed during "And...Action" when Ziggy said "oh, wait wait, I think it's morphin' time!") but it was the first series in a very, very long time to hold my attention this good. In fact, I think it may be the only PR series that I haven't missed a single episode of.

I really hope if they do another series, that it features the same cast from RPM. I mean, it's all set up for a sequel and everything.

Here's the comparison for last week's episode:
*SPOILERS WARNING*

In episode 8:
  • Thought bubbles of strawberry cake were placed over Bulk and Skull thinking about Billy's mind-reading machine
  • A "FRZAP!" was placed over Billy flipping the switch on his machine.
  • A spinning blue and pink "UH! OH!" was added to Billy/Kim's and Kim/Billy's scream when their minds are switched (also seen in the "Today on Power Rangers" segment).
  • The words "WOOF WOOF!" with a pink background were added to Bulk and Skull crawling into Billy's garage lab.
  • A rotating gray and red "UH! OH!" was added to Skull/Bulk's and Bulk/Skull's scream when neither minds are switched.
  • The new lightning bolt effect that was inserted to replace the old one seen during the rangers' morphing sequences was added in right as the Rangers teleport to he command Center to bring in the lamp.
  • A background was placed behind the rangers' group pose immediately before they fight the genie
  • Another background was placed over the Ranger's second group pose (it may have been the same sunrise one from episode 1)
  • The same backgrounds from the first episode that were used for each Ranger's individual pose were used for each in their poses here too
  • The same sun background from episode 4 (and the opening sequence) was added to the Megazord's midway transformation form Tank Mode to Battle Mode.
Surprisingly, that genie actually has a pretty good voice. I think it might be Devimon's dub voice from Digimon (Tom Wyner).

Zordon: "There is a dangerous disturbance in the Morphing Grid, Alpha." This just further adds to the evidence that the Morphing Grid is a ripoff of the Force from Star Wars.

WHY IS THERE SO MUCH TELEPORTING?!!

So, basically Zordon's plan for the Rangers to defeat the genie is nothing but Burning Justice? You gotta be kidding me!

Oh, good grief! Alpha is especially gay in this episode! Moreso than normal.

How exactly does destroying the lamp effect the Morphing Grid?

Editing error: Bulk's cap that Skull wears disappears from his head near the episode's end.

As for this morning's episodes, for some unexplained reason, instead of showing a rerun of last week's episode first, they showed a rerun of episode 3, in all its messed up glory (or lack there of). Episode 9 played, though.
*SPOILERS WARNING*

In episode 9:
  • Again, they make the mistake of showing episode 1's beginning footage between the "Today on Power Rangers" segment and the opening sequence! But this time, they messed up further! They started the footage like normal, but merged it with the normal theme song by making Rita say, "Don't leave. You'll miss my coming-out partyafter ten thousand years, I'm free! It's time to conquer Earth!" (not a typo) They actually edited the footage with the theme song's dialogue to make them into one long, unnecessary sequence!
  • A digital pyramid and lasers background added to Zack using the VR game.
  • A smacking "BIFF!" was added to Kim's kick to a Putty.
  • A smacking "BAM!" was added to Zack's kick to a Putty.
  • A smacking "POW!" was added to Trini's kick to a Putty.
  • A falling "OOPS!" was placed over Bulk's pants disappearing (censorship? And how many times is this guy gonna have something happen to his pants!)
  • A smacking "Snap!" was placed over Zack stopping Skull's punch.
  • A "DUCK!" and a "FLIP!" were added to Bulk getting beat by Jason and Billy.
  • A photo cutout background was added to bulk and Skull's emergence from the fashion makeover chamber.
  • A background was placed over the Rangers' group pose just after they morph. Also, the camera pan moved abnormally as well.
  • (not sure if this is new, but) the screen was split into four screens during part of the Megazord's Tank Mode formation.
The handshake between Billy and Willy was the lamest handshake I've ever seen.

The concept of that fashion makeover chamber seems awfully similar to Steve Urkel's Transformation Chamber from Family Matters.

Okay, so Willy is disqualified for trouble caused by Bulk and Skull? And how did that judge not notice Bulk and Skull stirring it up anyway? Is he really that absentminded and jerk-like? It would also seem that the judge is bipolar, as he goes from jerk to buddy (near the episode's end) all too easily. He even gives Willy first prize! What?!!

Willy's voice sounds an awful lot like Brianne Siddall.

Why would Jason assume so easily that Rita is responsible for Willy's disappearance? She may be the main villain of the show, but it could be a number of things that would explain why Willy's missing and his cap isn't.

*communicator beeps* Jason: "It's Zordon. He's calling us in. Prepare to teleport." Well, thank you, Captain Obvious! We never would've figured that one out.[/sarcasm]

If you look closely, you can see someone behind the Blue Ranger that he's protecting from a blast of Eye Guy's main eye. This is Zyuranger footage, so it's something snuck into Power Rangers that isn't acknowledged.

Once again, like in episode 5, the lines "Megazord sequence has been initiated," and "Megazord activated!" were spoken much more clearly than normal in this episode.

If you go by RPM, then yeah, it pretty much is.
I think the the only main difference between the two is that the Force hasn't had a physical image (to my knowledge).

Here's what the Morphing Grid looks like (when damaged. The undamaged Morphing Grid lacks the lightning bolts):

The only two off the top of my head would be Star Trek and Doctor Who. And that's mostly because they're both older than Star Wars.

I remember being 4 years old (I'm 26) and seeing Doctor Who on and not understanding whats going on but being somewhat intrigued by it and thought it was a tad creepy but in an ok sorta way and being confused why the characters spoke different.

Sorry I'm a bit late, but I got the latest comparison now.

First, a rerun of episode 4 played, followed by episode 10.

In episode 10:
  • Hearts and the word "Sweetheart" appear in front of Angela when she first appears.
  • A ripping heart and bursting tears appear on Zack when Angela tells him to "Get real," after he first tries to ask her out.
  • (Not sure if this is new, but) Kim flashback is very fuzzy.
  • Black lines were placed behind Bulk and Skull freaking out over Uncle Steve feeling dizzy.
  • Same thing again when Uncle Steve faints.
  • Again for their third freak out.
  • The Rangers's dino logos appear above and behind them right after they morph and land in the park.
  • A yellow smacking "POW!", a pink smaking "BIFF!", a gray smacking "BAM!, and a red zooming "ZZZZING" appear in the fight against Snizzard when he hits the Rangers.
  • A "Yay!" and two rainbow shooting stars were placed above Bulk and Skull running away... wait, what?!!
  • A big "SPLASH!" was placed over bulk and Skull getting covered in milkshakes. Man, did these two actors have no dignity back then?
Though it's most likely a coincidence, Jason wears black instead of red at the episode's beginning, which seems to be foreshadowing to his color of choice in Zeo.

A worth noting that ABC is now using the new MMPR logo in some of its ads instead of just the original logo.

They pretty much rip off the 2001: A Space Odyssey music when the plane takes off.

Can Bulk and Skull faint at will?!!

Alpha tells Kim to begin her descent after she's already descending!
"When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"

Cheese....

I still own the White Tiger megazord(the only zord I can think of that was Megazord on it's own aside from Dragon Megazord by the green ranger.) it's currently using Optimus Primes trailer as prop to keep from falling over. (It's missing a leg.)
