Completely unjustified.

No one would have been worse off energon wise.

What weapons people had now would be removed and they would be reimbursed the COST price, not the resale price, the COST price.

Factor in that people would be sitting on a bunch of weapons they would have more than enough to cover at least 12 new weapons, and would eventually be able to earn the energon for 24.

So when it came to affording new weapons, such worrying was not necessary.

This is true, but was only one of the issues. Like I said, cost of armour and issues regarding alt modes also played a big factor in people's complaints (as I saw them. I stopped keeping track after a while, as being low level armour is still cheap for me).

(Not looking for another heated discussion, just clarifying my point).

Because the plan was to remove all the current weapons from the database: equipped, stockpiled and for sale alike, and reimburse the purchase costs, then load an entirely new set of weapons into the database. So people would have to change weapons because some of the old ones wouldn't be as effective (BBs and Dols) and others wouldn't exist anymore. It wasn't just tweaking the stats behind the scenes. Some didn't care for being forced to repeatedly reset and having to buy new armour and weapons until they found something they liked, which is where the problems started AFAIK.

you know it's amazing how in the dark you can stay by reading the support staff forum.

Cheers for the clarification OS, I understand your reasons but it's a shame all the same.

I had to admit I was equally fearful and excited but the whole prospect of the changes (I'm rather attached to my main brawler's setup).

Anyway as the weapons won't be getting balanced quite so soon would you consider a restock of X-ray lasers for the newbies? Just a thought as we've gotta look after the little guys otherwise they might take tammuz's advice about INT and RNK being the best stats seriously.

and yes it is funny when then do, right up until they're your backup!

As I've said, this is my understanding of how it was going to work.

And you'd have to ask OS about the whys and wherefores.

Indeed, as Kaijubot said, the main money worry was for the armour, because higher level players who aren't sat on loads of energon were suggesting that they wouldn't be able to re-equip, because of prohibitive costs.

To my mind, these problems could be overcome, but, like Supercollider, I must admit the whole thing is as worrying as it is exciting. We all want new challenges, we all get stuck in our ways. That's just being human, I suppose. Anyway, it's up to OS to decide. The most important thing is, as Burn said, he listened to us all. So the reason we're not having it is 'cos enough people said they weren't happy about it.

That said, you've still got my support, OS, so other than registering my objection now I'll pretty much drop it.

I'm willing to bet that higher level players who don't have plenty of energon reserves don't have said reserves because they either spend too much time resetting already, or they're sitting on a nice stockpile of weaponary which will give them plenty of energon in return.

A quarter of my team can't be reset without losing the alt mode. But eh, I live with it. And I doubt there's many players out there who have half or more of their team that are unresettable. Which means they still have a good chunk of their team to play with.

"But Burn! My badly configured bots will have to fight bots that are properly configured and wielding cool new weapons!"

Yeah well .... tough titty. There's going to be a lot of people in that boat. Ya want this game to move forward or not people? We all have to make a sacrifice some time.

"Oh sure it's okay for YOU to say that Burn. You have lots of energon. A good chunk of your bots are set up so they can choose whatever weapon they like!"

Bite me. And then think of the rest of the game instead of your selfish self. We have a movie coming out in 68 days that's going to bring a lot of new members in. Here's hoping they can have some weapons to fight with, with or without Vwhatevertheyrecallingitnow.0

the most expensive armour is electrum, it costs 10k per tonne, ten tonnes would cost 100K, on 12 bots that would cost 1.2 mill.

really who has 12 bots with 10 tonnes of electrum and can't afford that?

Dark ops is the first on the scores page who can't but he's only got 2 10ton electrum bots. Lazer's the next on the list, and he doesn't even have a 10ton electrum bot, Likewise Tvip also can't afford but doesn't have any either, and then Tifereth; can't but doesn't too, and Dynamax, who really shouldn't gamble, Hellspawn, can't but doesn't. Trax, who can't but doesn't, and general lysis,

so in short the only people who can't afford the maximum armour replacement don't actually have the bots to need that much expenditure on armour.

the armour reset cost thing is a non issue.

EDIT: and if we balance the weapons, we won't have any cool new weapons, you'll either put xp into firepower and skill to boost weapon damage, or put it in other stats to improve those areas. it's not going to kill one stats usefulness. not like what happened when speed started having the same affect as courage,(and who complained about that? no one said ooh i'm gonna have to reset my precious alt to survive then.)

So armour is essentially a non-issue.
Cost of replacement weapons is definitely a non-issue.

Which just leaves not being able to reset some bots without losing rare alts.

Which I still say is acceptable as most people will still have other bots they can reset and play with and a lot of people will be in the same boat. But what negates the argument completely is that this is a step FORWARD for the game.

I mean how long have people been wanting and practically demanding weapons be fixed?

Now they see the cost and suddenly it's NO NO NO.

This is amusing me to no end. For the past year or so I have been accused of whining and complaining about the lack of progress and the direction that lack of progress was taking.

Then for the first time in months there is a sign of real progress and upgrades...

And you balk at it.

Oh how I am enjoying this. Well I would if I were not dissapointed about not having the weapons fixed.

Instead of fixing one of the major problems with the game you run screaming in panic over your altmodes.

Instead of improving the functionality of the game, you want OS to fix the cosmetics.

Lets put racing stripes on our rusted out '76 Honda Civic and duct tape the holes!

The Power of the 5% was used for evil... and not for Good of All.

lets not get ahead of ourselves who actually doesn't want the weapons fixed?

EDIT: becuase reading through the priorities thread it seems people aren't actually that anti-fixing weapons. granted i think OS has gone a bit OTT with all the new features of the weapons, and could make life alot simpler by just balancing what we've got rather than adding in the special effects and other new fangled gadgetry

Because those players with rare alt modes are worried that they won't be able to get the right stats to work with the new weapons. If they mess up they won't be able to reset. This is why it was suggested that the alt database be opened for a month or so, so that people could retain their rare alts AND have the chance to work out new, usable configs for them.

I'm sorry to hear that you decided to postpone the new weapons system. I'll admit I was one of those who were nervous about what was planned, but I my excitement that I might finally be able to use a sniper rifle effectively outwieghted my trepidation and I for one was willing to wait and see how all this would work out. Oh well.

I'd like to state that OS's earlier position ("weapon balancing is the main thing and must be made first") suited me better then the present one ("You all whine at me so I won't do what I've promised"). But that can be my personal problems.

What I can promise you, OS, will be the whines to restock some-or-other weapon which is now at zero in the weapon shop. And those whines shall continue until you balance the weapons out... or go mad :)

So - what do you prefer?
