Nintendo Is Officially Dead

...to me anyway.

I just saw on Gametrailers.com that Nintendo is re-releasing their old games, like Metroid Prime 1 and Mario Tennis, but with Wii controls added in. I'm sorry but I thought Nintendo was above that sort of thing. Any other 3rd party company I could see doing that, but not Nintendo. What happened the gold seal of quality? It's turned into a brown pile of ****.

Nintendo's spent so much time catering to the masses that they've forgot about the hardcore. I can't think of the last time I was truly excited about a new Nintendo game coming out. The last biggie was probably Twilight Princess. Metriod Prime 3 was good. SSBB was OK. But I wasn't waiting for them as much as I was agonizingly anticipating TP. Where's the next Zelda game? It's been 3 years! That's the same amount between the last 3 major Zelda games. But we haven't even heard anything about it 'cause there isn't one. Nintendo is too busy swinging their Wiimotes and rolling their monkey balls around and rubbing their touch pads to get up off their asses and make a decent game.

No wonder the gaming media doesn't even consider the Wii to be a part of the console race. The Wii doesn't deserve to be in the same glass cases as the 360 and PS3. It's nothing more than an over-priced, under-powered toy now. And it should be sat next to those Leapster learning game things and those plug 'n' play arcade sticks. And the DSi should be put next to the thing they're trying to rip off, the iPods and other wanna-be-iPods.

Sorry about the rant. I've been with Nintendo since the original NES days, but now I feel betrayed. I'm moving on to 360 just like Metal Gear, Resident Evil, and everyone else has.

Double-check but I'd think twice before moving onto the 360 for Metal Gear Solid. Unless you want to play only #2.

I have a PS3 too. And it's not like I'm going to be selling my Wii any time soon. But I'm going to be doing all my gaming on 360 for the foreseeable near future. The Wii, or PS3 for that matter, doesn't have any games that have popped up on my radar yet.

What's the Wii got coming out in the next 6 months? Deadly Creatures, House of the Dead, Dead Rising, and Ghostbusters are the only ones that look mildly interesting. The rest are either based on a TV show, or movie, or some other franchise, sports games, or are multiplatform games that are probably better on other platforms.

PS3 has F.E.A.R. 2, Street Fighter 4, Resident Evil 5. At least those are best ones I've been watching. RE5 especially. And they're all available on 360. Though to be fair, 360 doesn't have a stellar line up either. The only other game they have lined up is Halo Wars and well... As we all know, the XBox was built on Halo, and that's all they really got to offer over the competition.

You also have Singularity to look forward to from Raven on the 360 and PS3.

Plus most of these games can be found on other systems if not now, then soon.

I find you're right about the Wii. It doesn't have much to sell it in terms of games. I get the impression it's biggest selling feature is as an "exercise video game system," but I really don't find it that way. The most exercise I've gotten out of it was Rock Band, but that can be played on any other current system. Other than that, there's Wii Boxing. That's the only exercise I've ever gotten out of it aside from what I'd get from a TV remote. Also, it's more a kid-friendly system than the others.

And about 50% of its games are cutesy "It's-a Mario!" games.

As for the PS3, the only game I missed out on by opting for the 360 is MGS4. That stung like a ****, but I'm glad I made my choice how I made it. It's a good thing Shadowman never said I couldn't live vicariously through him, or else I'd be a very upset little boy right now.

(And Dead Rising and Ghostbusters are multiplatform games. Not sure about the others.)

Man, you nearly gave me a heart attack.

UltraPrimal wrote:I just saw on Gametrailers.com that Nintendo is re-releasing their old games, like Metroid Prime 1 and Mario Tennis, but with Wii controls added in.

Metroid Prime 1 is old? Going by Nintendo's standards (Nearing 30 years in the industry), what does that make SMB1, Kid Icarus, or the original Legend of Zelda?

UltraPrimal wrote:I'm sorry but I thought Nintendo was above that sort of thing. Any other 3rd party company I could see doing that, but not Nintendo. What happened the gold seal of quality? It's turned into a brown pile of ****.

Really? Are you sure?

UltraPrimal wrote:Nintendo's spent so much time catering to the masses that they've forgot about the hardcore.

The hardcore is a minority, and everyone knows the majority is where the money is at.

UltraPrimal wrote:Metriod Prime 3 was good. SSBB was OK. But I wasn't waiting for them as much as I was agonizingly anticipating TP. Where's the next Zelda game? It's been 3 years!

Games take time. If you think it's rough waiting for the next Zelda (Which I believe had been confirmed), then you should try to avoid any game by Valve.

UltraPrimal wrote:That's the same amount between the last 3 major Zelda games. But we haven't even heard anything about it 'cause there isn't one.

Now you're just making assumptions without backing them up.

UltraPrimal wrote:Nintendo is too busy swinging their Wiimotes and rolling their monkey balls around and rubbing their touch pads to get up off their asses and make a decent game.

So, Capcom, Konami, and all the third-party guys working there asses off don't exist? Because if all you're talking about is first-party developed games, then take a good long look at what Sony and Microsoft Game Studios have put out in the last year. SCE has one LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2, and Microsoft Game Studios did Fable 2 and Banjo-Kazooie, which I'm hesitant to mention at all because it started as a Nintendo Franchise.

UltraPrimal wrote:No wonder the gaming media doesn't even consider the Wii to be a part of the console race.

It's like you're not even trying to make a real argument, you're just making up facts and hoping people will believe them.

UltraPrimal wrote:The Wii doesn't deserve to be in the same glass cases as the 360 and PS3. It's nothing more than an over-priced, under-powered toy now.

...What?

You're sticking to 360 for a game that doesn't exist on 360?

Do you think they know that their game is now a punchline?

But Duke Nukem Forever aside, Valve is pretty bad. Half-Life 2 was in development for 5 years, Episode One was released two years later, and Epsiode Two was released another year later. (Pretty much everything on The Orange Box could be beaten in a single afternoon, in fact, yesterday, I beat Portal in an hour and a half)

We're still waiting on an official release date, or, hell, even a trailer for Episode Three, and it's nearing two years since Episode Two.

I'm all for remakes. Heck if they were to just remake Ocarina of Time, with new graphics and add content, I'd be very happy. But it's when they re-release the exact same game, just with Wii controls shoehorned in I have a problem. Let's use the 2 examples I gave. Metroid Prime: I already have that game, so I'm not ganna buy it again for new controls. Mario Tennis: Why not just release a patch for Wii Sports so you can play as Mario and friends. Or failing that, just make a new Wii Sports with Mario and them as playable characters and all the previous sports included.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. I hated how it controlled in the PS2 version, but i found the Wii version to be much better.

I am. I loved the first Metroid Prime (Never did finish Echoes...), and I love the Wii's controls for FPS games. (Red Steel FTW)

UltraPrimal wrote:Mario Tennis: Why not just release a patch for Wii Sports so you can play as Mario and friends.

So you think they should just put in Miis that look vaguely like their characters? Because I already did that myself.

UltraPrimal wrote:Or failing that, just make a new Wii Sports with Mario and them as playable characters and all the previous sports included.

So, you think that rather than remake games like Mario Tennis and Mario Golf, they should just make a new Wii Sports, but only with Mario characters? Do you see how redundant that becomes?

This is why the only new Nintendo system I've bought has been the DS, and I barely play that thing.

The Official Nintendo Seal of Quality has gone from a seal that stood for excellence. To just the Official Nintendo Seal, they don't care about quality anymore, just the money.

If this was the old Nintendo, they'd be focusing towards family like they have been, but still be dedicated to the hardcore fanbase.

But instead all the hardcore gamers get are Dead Rising on the Wii, Dead Space on the wii. It wouldn't be a problem if they came out along side the original release of the game. But why buy something in dumbed down graphics, motion controls and slack mob-sizes when you could just headover to Gamestop and buy a used version of the 360 version for $20

Nintendo really doesn't know what they're doing anymore

By redundant I mean that a good amount of the games are copies of/rehashes of another game already released. Wii Play, Wii Sports, etc. They're the same thing over and over again. Nintendo needs to actually come out with something that makes using the motion control worth while.

Regardless I'm not sure why I'm posting in here. I had a Wii for two days and sold it to a sucker on ebay.

Huh. I had no idea No More Heroes, Metroid Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Red Steel, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Super Smash Bros. Melee were all the same game...

And that's out of how many games released for the console again? You can find gems on any system if you look. However I'm still not sure why you're defending the system as if you own stock in it.

I think motion control is a fad and it will die, and its starting to die already with the Wii's poopy support. I agree with your rant a 100%. you know I wanna know where the hell is F-zero? Theres one series they forgot about. The first year or 2 of Wii was awesome, because thats when all the awesome first party games came out. nowadays I've found my wii hasn't been turned on since November.

My DS is boring me equally. Unless your into RPG's theres nothing much on the future for that system either!

When it comes to Nintendo they need to just keep making good first party games because honestly the majority (not all) of third party support has sucked since the N64! The SNES was the last system to have good 3rd party game support, it all went to hell after that! This picture explains it all right here:

I actually agree with you there. Once Square left (Really more of a break, you may notice they're still making things for Nintendo), they seemed to have been steadily (or perhaps rapidly) losing third-party support. I think Capcom has stuck with them, though. Konami has as well, putting most of their Castlevania games from the last several years on GBA and DS. And most of the companies under Activision Blizzard (Not Blizzard themselves, they've done, like, three things since Warcraft III came out, and all of them were WoW)

But yeah, they don't have nearly as much third party support as they used to. And it's not necessarily their fault, but it does hurt the systems themselves.

Capcom is usually pretty awesome about supporting everything. I remember them porting all their games to dreamcast when dreamcast was out. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on dreamcast was awesome!

Yeah, Capcom has the tendency to "play nice" with everyone. Namco, Marvel, Konami. Even though all they really have left going for them is Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and, to a lesser extent, the Ace Attorney series.

That can be said about the other two consoles right now as well. I mean a lot(not all but a lot) of the X360 and Ps3 games are almost exactily the same. IE: an FPS where you're some "battle hardened" 'roided-up bad-ass with a big gun and armor saving the earth/humanity from some various threat like aliens or terrorists or something. Gee I think I just described like almost every single FPS on the market right now or in development.

True. However those FPS's almost always have some feature the others do not that make them stand out. Time control, super speed, etc. And not to mention that with the other two systems, you have the ability to do more than play games. 360 allows for it to be a media center, allows netflix to be streamed through it, has more or less a full chat program built into it and has an incredible marketplace that encompasses pretty much everything a normal person would be interested in. The PS3 has it's blu-ray playback, Home (even if it's limited) and it's store as well. The Wii is a one trick pony with a game store. And the fact you can now get a 360 for less than the Wii with a used HDD makes it even more useless in my mind.
