Saw it this morning in Melbourne Australia.

(spoilers)

There was a surprisingly large crowd for 10:30am on a Thursday morning. A few people in the theatre cheered when Prime said you know what during the battle with Megatron. It would be awesome to watch it with the Botcon crowd.

There were a lot of bits where I thought "that looked cool"

Was a bit confused about the Brawl/Devastator thing (name only given in a title) - I guess they changed that from the toy release.

Didn't like the interview with the parents at the end, the hiding in the garden and thought that dance dance revolution donut guy was a bit much. Kinda laughed at the Masterbation bit with Spike's mum, but there are going to be a few parents uncomfortable explaining that one to their pre-teens. I was thinking of taking my four year old but a few things (spikes into heads and did Jazz say "Bitches" or was I imagining it) will make me wait until he's a little older and can watch the DVD.

Other than SS and Megs, the Deceps don't show much personality and didn't really come off as all that evil (other than the spiky bits). All the Autobots get their moment in the light which is cool.

The movie is fun, a good time and worth your money. The robots look realistic and you won't be sitting there thinking "this looks fake". I enjoyed it more than any other movie I've seen for some time.

Will be seeing it again with the wife tonight.

Just saw it, really fun action movie with a delicious layer of Transformers icing on top.

Prime and Bumblebee are awesome but to me, Megatron seemed dull and generic in how he looked and acted.

And is it just me or did Megs seem alot more powerful than Prime? Prime got hardly any good shots in on him.

The bit at the end when Sam was making out with that chick right there on Bumblebee's bonnet and all the autobots are right there... eww dude, they're gonna watch?

Okay, on 2nd viewing, I didn't imagine it - Jazz did actually use that word!

The wife (who doesn't know anything about Transformers) loved the movie, so it is possible that this will seriously cross over into the mainstream.

If they've assimilated the World Wide Web as suggested by Prime, it isn't as though they wouldn't have seen a whole lot of pretty bizzare pr0n. Compared to what they would have already seen scanning the web, Sam and Mikela would be pretty darn tame ;-)

Well I just saw it and WOW! Did that two hours go quick!

Awesome film!

SPOILERS - So be warned!!

The theatre was totally packed! I know every seat was taken cos they kept shouting that out as people filed in. I was seated plomp smack bam in the middle:) Perfect. Lights went down and Primes voice boomed through the room, Wow, very cool.

The film had quite a comic tone which played real well with the audience, people lapped it up. I mean this film has a lot of mainstream appeal. Shia is great, and I can't really fault the cast.

The tempo of the film is very fast, bit too fast for a first viewing but on a second viewing it will be perfect. The first half just flies by because they do manage to suck you into Shia's story.

The scenes in Sam's house etc, really went down well. As did Barricade's arrival, talk about Police brutality:P

The third act is just wall to wall action. Megs looks good, but with so many bots in the battle you long for more screen time and a few slow mo shots, but it's spectacular stuff. Megs will be back for the second film, I can tell you that much going off his 'death' scene, that left things waay open to bring him back to life.

The CGI, as everyone has hit upon is first rate. I wish they would stay still on some of the bots for longer but guess that is what the DVD will be for.

As for the bots themselves...

Prime is awesome, Prime through and through and looks great. When he first rolls in you get chills down your spine.

Bumblebee - Great character, they get a lot of emotion out of him.

Ironhide - Gets a decent amount of screen time. Very cool bot, same goes for Ratchet.

Jazz - sniff, carks it, but then he doesn't have too much screen time so you wouldn't notice. He looks excellent in the film though, shame he didn't have more close-ups.

There are a lot of supercool shots of the Autobots together, this type of trademark Bay shot with the dramatic music, awesome stuff.

The Decepticons are in the film less so than the autobots. Starscream is cool but underused.

Frenzy, frenzy was hilarious, and had quite a big role! At first that worried me but he worked out well.

I noticed a few changes from the script in the film... In the final shot Prime was originally meant to be standing on Mt Everest, that would have been cooler but I can see why they cut that for dollar reasons. Also the ice scene at the beginning is recut into later in the film.

Anyway, I give the film two thumbs up! Best popcorn film in quite a while and real solid entertainment! Those who haven't seen it yet won't be disappointed!

Review for TRANSFORMERS

Postby miXme » Thu Jun 28, 2007 10:46 am

 OH YES! I ALREADY SAW THE MOVIE 2HOURS AGO. WE HAVE AN EARLY SHOWING HERE IN THE PHILIPPINES, A WEEK ADVANCE. SO HERE IT GOES.
THE MOVIE WAS SO AWESOME. (spoilers)
well, no introductions. the action began as soon as the movie started. the us base in qatar was attacked by decepticons, actually, one decepticon hiding in a form of a huey chopper or maybe a blackhawk, whatever... i don't know that model. so these decepticons are looking for gov't files to the whereabouts of megatron. (Megatron was found by the great great grandfather of Sam, the boy in the movie who bought his first car which happens to be an autobot. autobots and decepticons were actually looking for a CUBE which crashed on earth 10,0000 years ago. megatron came here 1000 years ago but laid frozen in the north pole when he was found. Megatron was transported and was placed underneath the Hoover Dam where the CUBE is located. the us gov't called this project SEPTER SEVEN. meanwhile after some chasing on the road, Sam discovered that his car is actually a robot. TRUST ME, after the five AUTOBOTS converge with their leader OPTIMUS PRIME, you're gonna laugh about them when they get to the Sam's place, AUTOBOTS are avoiding to be seen by Sam's laugh out parents. They were like circus stars trying to get fit in a sardine can. Meanwhile the little Decepticon robots-these are little robot who does all the work in retrieving files to locate Megatron, manage to retrieve 96% files in Air Force One plane! after this, the fun starts. REAL BLAST ACTION! the boy's new car was so cool, it used to be an old crap yellow car, after the Sam and his girl complained about how crap the car is, BUMBLEBEE-the name of that autobot, copied and changed his appearance into a cool yellow sports car, but i think Jazz has the coolest appearance. GUYS, THE ROAD CHASE WAS SO GREAT!!! THE VILLAIN WAS POLICE CAR WHICH IS ACTUALLY A COOL POLICE CAR!!! LOL, SORRY FOR THAT! well Bumblebee was caught by the police when he didn't fight with the humans.(yes, the Autobots are actually so caring, they won't touch a fly in this movie, darn!)well, he was kept frozen too so that he can't move. he was transported underneath the Hoover dam too, where they all, yet again, converge. they were detected by other Decepticons, thanks to their little robot who was able to transform into a Motorazr phone. Megatron was awakened since power was cut off and in turn was defrost. AND THEN THE FUN STARTS AGAIN, THEY ARE NOW FIGHTING AND TRANSFORMING WITH HUMANS IN BETWEEN. they fought at the city. IT WAS SO AWESOME HERE BEC THEY WERE FIGHTING WITH PEOPLE AND BUILDINGS AROUND. AND THEN THEY WERE MATRIX STYLE ACTION BETWEEN THE ROBOTS. WOWOWOWOWEEE!!!! IT WAS SO FREAKING FUN!!! AFTER THOSE FIGHTS, WELL, AUTOBOTS WON. the Disturbia guy was able to put the cube into Megatron's sort of heart. it burned and then he was dead, or is he? the end of the movie was, Autobots choose to stay on earth hiding on those cool vehicle. Megatron was dumped on the atlantic ocean. Optimus prime sent signal to all Autobots seeking refuge to other stars. I betcha there's a second movie!!! GUYS, THE MOVIE WAS SO GREAT, WITH ALL THOSE ROAD CHASE AND AIRPLANE TRANSFORMING ROBOTS, THE NON STOP ACTION AND TRANSFORMATION, GOD, YOU CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!

OVERALL, THE EFFECTS WERE GREAT, STORY WAS GOOD- THIS IS WAY BETTER THAN THOSE "OTHER" SUMMER MOVIES. THE MOVIE WAS ENTERTAINING, AND I MEAN NON STOP. I APOLOGIZE FOR THE SPOILERS....

It is an enjoyable movie. It has some good points and bad points. Here's some of my thoughts on this movie

May contain spoiler

The transformers are bought to life by really impressive CGI, I was speechless when I watched Optimus Prime transforms for the first time. They are really detailed.

Most of the transformers' scenes are battle scenes, so we don't really know about them. Autobots have more screen time than Decepticons, from their conversation, we learn that Optimus Prime is the heroic leader, Bumblebee as a soldier who befriends a human and does some funny stuffs, Jazz as the stylist soldier with some wise crack, Ironhide as the old fashion warrior (I love him ), Ratchet as some sort of geek.

Optimus and Bumblebee get the most screen time and character development, we truly care about this 2, especially when Bumblebee is captured by Sector 7. But unfortunately, this means that the other Autobots get less screen time, and ultimately, when one of them dies, it feels empty. (My friend just went, "What? He's dead?)

Decepticons are portrayed as monsters, and I like it. However, Starscream has very few appearances and has about 3 lines in entire movie. Megatron, on the other hand, is awesome They pick the suitable actor for his sound, and Megatron is really scary in this movie.

I don't care about the human, except Sam. This guy rocks! He always make the entire cinema burst out laughing. Great job Shia!

Megan Fox is hot btw

Now onto the final battle. This part shows the best. and sadly, the worst part of the movie IMO. The CGI in the final battle is breath taking, debris falling, robots jumping and shooting, explosion everywhere. I was on the edge of my seat and really excited watching the whole battle.

But what was the problem? The problem is I can't figure out who's who in the final battle. Everything just went too fast and I couldn't even differentiate Ratchet and Ironhide. I remember one review says the it's like watching a pile of metal shooting and jumping, the reviewer is actually right. It's really hard to see the transformers clearly, and they do look like piles of metal

I might have a lot of negatives to say about this movie but I really enjoy, for an action movie and Transformers movie, it is really well done.

8/10

To those who've watched this movie, what do you guys think of the scenes when Bumblebee is captured by Sector 7? Optimus decides not to rescue him, because 'We can't save Bumblebee without hurting the humans". Excuse me? This is the loyal friend who fight together with you for thousands years and you are not going to save him because you might hurt the humans (who attack you and your friends btw) ?

I lose some respect for Prime because of this scene

Just got back. A quick nutshell review from me. Spoilers ahead, so be warned:

On the whole, pretty damn awesome. I feel sorry for anyone who brushes this film off because of the new designs.

Pros:

-References to G1 abound. Look out for them!

-Kept the spirit of G1 intact, and the characters of the Transformers as well, save Bumblebee, who's almost a completely different character. This was my biggest fear for the movie, and it was quelled.

-If you've been following the prequel comics and read the novel, you'll be pleasantly surprised with how much the Autobots actually do. Ratchet and Ironhide have some great lines.

-Lots of Autobot dialogue and involvement. Everyone has a few lines.

-Bumblebee is officially on the list of 'greatest non-human sci-fi movie heroes ever'. He embodies the archetype of the 'friendly alien'.

-A quick glimpse of Cybertron. The place looks awesome and freakishly scary.

-A fair bit of Cybertronian dialogue and subtitles. Knowing the fanbase, we are going to have an official Cybertronian alphabet within a year :D

-Barricade. I fair pissed myself when he talked. He was damn frightening and his voice exuded THREAT.

-You can totally tell they wanted Blackout to be Soundwave initially, what with the Skorponok 'attachment', his loyalty (HAIL MEGATRON!) and his intention to interfere with the Megs vs Op fight. Would have been great if it was actually him.

-Megatron. Compared to most of the other Deceps he actually was on screen quite a bit at the end, and Hugo Weaving did a good job for him (Still wish it was Frank Welker, though). This is a Megatron who takes no prisoners, does NOT putz around, and will rip apart anything in his way. Still hate his design, though his eyes were great.

-On the whole, human performances were good. Bay was right, Shia is going to have a bright future ahead of him.

-Peter Cullen. Lots of Peter Cullen. YES.

-Megatron's Ball & Chain. Blink and you may miss it, but hell yes - is that a shade of purple I see?

Cons:

-Optimus Prime's lips. I got used to them, but goddamn were they ever distracting.

-Minimal Decepticon screen time for half their cast. Brawl is only around for the final fight scene, Bonecrusher only has his round with Op, and Starscream has all of two lines and gets to trash some jets and fire a missile or two. I'm sure he'll have a major role in the sequel, though.

-Kind of drags on a bit 2/3 of the way in. It's longer than you'd expect. But the last 20 minutes DESTROY you.

-Except, as mentioned, that things move so fast it's hard to see who's who at times. But with a little work you can make them out.

-At times, it can't seem to decide whether it wants to be a comedy or an action flick - but it manages to do a good job at being both at the given time.

-Frenzy. I know people are going to love him or hate him. On the one hand, he's a genuinely creepy little bugger, but...that voice. THAT DAMN VOICE. It's like you taped an Ewok, sped it up 5x, and added in electronic effects. I found him kind of irritating.

-Jazz's death is barely noticed. Hell, Optimus is holding him like a broken toy. Seemed wrong to me.

It's not the best movie ever, not by a longshot. But what it is, is a wonderful escapist blockbuster flick that delivers - especially to the fans.

Overall: 9/10.

Just Prime, friends. Just Prime.

Another review

Postby klystron52 » Thu Jun 28, 2007 11:27 pm

Movie opened in Australia yesterday, & I went to see it with my wife and 7yo. I wanted to write a review for you all, but after having read the majority of them in this thread there really isnt much new that i can add.

I loved the movie! My wife is not a transformer fan (previously not even knowing the difference between prime and megs) and she really enjoyed the movie. My 7yo boy loved it, but didnt get alot of the more adult humour and found it a little hard to follow at times.

Some of the action is too fast, making it a little hard to get everything thats happening. So definitly plan on watching it more than once. Poor old decepticons dont get the coverage they deserve. We dont even get to see some of them til the end fight. After its finished you just (IMHO) find yourself wanting still more robot action!

Thats about all the gripes i have. Sure there will be some bits that people wont like but on the whole its an Excellent movie. very enjoyable and very well done. Very cool scenes, cars and fights. Looking forward to the sequel.

Much better than a vast majority of the in-fashion comic-to-movie adaptations. Much better than FF4, SM3 and Pirates3.
Cant recommend it enough. Big budget blockbuster of the year. Easily.

9/10
JUST PRIME x2.

Cheers and Enjoy!

Weapon: Blue Bolt
I just saw a free preview screening of the movie tonight and I must say I enjoyed it even though it definitely felt like a Michael Bay film and I really don't like his visual style. There were, however, a few things I had issues with. First, the cheese factor was way too high. Frenzy was pretty much all cheese. Second, it would have been nice if the Decepticons had had more than just one personality. Third, there was a glaring plot hole at the end that just didn't sit right with me. Why would anyone, when faced with the level of destruction caused by a battle between giant robots, choose to leave the relative seclusion of the Hoover Dam and say, "Hey, we should take the thing that these guys are fighting over and go to the middle of a large city where plenty of people, buildings and cars can be severely damaged."? Although, it was nice to be able to pick out the parts of the battle that were filmed in Detroit. Lastly, Jazz was so tragically, horribly annoying ("bitches"?! That almost made me throw up a little) that I was actually happy when Megatron ripped him in half.

Overall, I'd have to give this movie a 7 out of 10. I'll definitely see it again and happily pay for a ticket or three.

I saw it as well. Great flick. Not quite worth all the fuss over the last two years, but fun.

It was exactly what I expected it to be.

It was Michael Bay.
It was tasteless.
It was frantic.
And it was LOUD.

But it was loud in a good way. Awesome bass. Awesome use of bass. I love their voices. I can still hear them shaking the inside of my head. I was dreading a bunch of loud bullshit, but they did it right. Hats off.

Good crowd pleaser too. Everyone cheered and clapped.

The movie has a kind of scary intensity that stays with you. Everything else is small and pipsqueaking by comparison. I'm afraid even Die Hard will seem tame.

But the camerawork did not shake, and everything that happened was clear and direct.

Worth the wait? Yes.
Worth the hype? Kind of.
Worth the drama? Hell no.

But it is, hands down, the most exciting movie of the summer.

Best part of the movie:

Barricade first confronts Sam. Scary as hell and awesome.
Buy my RiD toys! They're awesome, I promise!!!!

I can see where it might of been rated R as to it is very violent :). Peter Cullen does awsome as prime.. ALmost brought a tear when he transformed the first time.. He really makes the movie and well.. you will see...

As said before, the first blackout transformation was sweet. the transformation sound was heard well.. the only thing about that is you didn't really hear it again as loud.. it was mixed into the transformation.. Primes first transformation kicks ass.. Even megatron is bad. The voice is really good.. all the voices seemed to fit well..

The time flew by. It is a mix all the way through with tons of action at the end...

Prime is bad ass when he fights.

The only problem i had was they didn't show the decepticons enough but when they did, boy did they make up for it. all in aa A+ movie and bay did not do anyone wrong.. Very impressed.. I can't wait to catch another screening or two then watch it opening night with all my people at the theater and the fans like me... I am even going to pay :)

If anyone has any direct questions, pm me or email me and i will answer them...

Spoiler - SPoiler - Spoiler - Spoiler Spoiler

SPOILER -----------------U have been warned.. These arn't really spoilers as i don't want to get into detail as to what happens.. just general thoughts and deeper into the charectors.. if any moderator or anyone has a problem with this, let me know and i will delete the part below.

Brawl is called "Devestator" in the print i saw today. Not sure if they are going to change that but since the production is done or so i heard, that might be how it is.

They don't show starscream, barricade, or blackout enough.. They have great scenes but could of been more... You don't really hear Devestator aka brawl, bonecrusher talk really at all.. Barricade has a little dialog, blackout has a few lines and starscream shows up half way through and toward the end and he dosn't have too many lines.. the megatron-starscream confrentation is good though.. as short as it is.

Bonecrusher dosn't have any scenes other then the prime fight.

Brawl (devestator) only shows up at the end and dosn't get much chance to do anything

starscream does some awesome damage to the f22's that are chasing him and he was done pretty well

blackout was king at the beginning and at the end, all his scenes were sweet. what happenes with him in the final battle was good.

Jazz is kinda funny but dosn't really get showed much, they pretty much use him for show.

Ironhide is great.. lots of scenes through most of the movie.
Rachet is the same way, so is prime..

You really see the bond between sam and bumbleebee grow

Prime is developed well and i love hearing cullen. At the beginning, his voice is a little deeper but in the middle andend, it is right on g1 prime tone.. ANd prime is alot more aggressive toward the decepticons in this movie.

again .. megan fox is hot, they get her at every angle.. you can tell it is a bay film..

and as i said.. Michael bay did a great job... if after you see it, you think it sucks then thats fine.. but don't judge it until you see it.. and it is so worth it.

Frenzy is sweet... by far one of the best charectors in the movie.

The scene where sam is buying bumbleebee is hilarious.. watch it carfuly. Berni mac is in it for a few seconds and has some funny lines...

The bonecrusher ---Prime fight is one of the best ones for what happens during it.

They really set it up for a sequel...

The cgi was on target..

Overall.. Very impressive.. it will give spiderman and pirates a run for thier money

Excellent review! I concure.

Some things I'd like to add.

As a G1 fan, this movie is like G1 on steroids in my opinion. They really hold tue to the characers, and even though BumbleBee is different, his values are those of G1. The characterization was phenomenal. Barricade is sick and Frenzy is actually an awesome character, great emotions from him!

Oh and the best part...Prime says the line! People went NUTS when he said that.

Can't wait to get it in HD to slow down some of the fights a bit. Although wathcing it for the second time allowed me to catch alot more detail and enjoy it a bit more.

The marketing has worked though. I want a 5th gen now more than I want my nutsack.

Just saw it 2 hr ago too, I had fun!

Should really put a warning spoilers here on a spoiler thread? Well ok SPOILERS...

SPOILER

Frenzy: Is a silly funny crazy on cocaine killer cute boombox. I couldn't keep up with him, he makes so many funny noises, he made my stomach really hurt from laughing. What I didn't understand was the humans couldn't see him when he came out of the presidental plane,...a funny walk to Barricade hiding his face...and then jumping right in front of humans...still no one saw him....wierd, but he is my fave decepticon in the movie, everything I expect him to be.

Blackout: Totually amazing! I think he was the typical scary alien robot, but he was so cool to watch!

Barricade, nice mean voice, but hard to understand sometimes. He was ok, love the fight between him and Bumblebee.

Starscream: I was very disappointed, not enough talking time, but no real close up on his face, and that was a good thing. I hate how fat he looked, somehow it didn't really fit him at all. He flys and shoots awsome, but no real character development. He only said one line in the whole movie. "Megatron, I only live to serve you" ....? Something like that. I think he flew to Cybertron? at the end of the clips.

Optimus Prime....Well besides his lips, they really didn't brother me as much as I thought they would, but he really didn't need them. He was awsome, I don't remember him saying "autobot transform and roll out", but he was a bit "meaner" persona, like demanding the release of Sam when Sector 7 kidnap him. A wonderful job Cullen did, simply
awsome. It was a rush and everyone cheers when he said " I am Optimus Prime"

Bumblebee: He won my heart, such an emotional being. He had a lot of bad torture done to him done by sector 7, basting him with lazers, or electeric charges and freezing him, it was heartbreaking. Then if that wasn't enough, ...his legs get tored up, but he kept his head up high. Good wonderful thing is he can speak at the end of the movie, very cool.

Bone Crusher: He was a killer, but Prime kills him too soon.....great axe screen, right throug his head, this screen between the two was so cool.
Prime the killer autobot. ..heh.

Jazz: He was so cool! I loved him! They got his personality on the nail! I really wish he didn't die...I will miss him.

Megatron was well Megatron. Ugly design, almost unbearable to watch, but his bad "evil" additude made up for it. The super fast Jet mode was really cool. Prime was sad when he die too...wierd.

Well, I'm not going to say anymore, but I have to watch this movie again because it was a lot going on, and sometimes it was hard to understand what the decepticons were saying expect for Megatron..as least for me.

In the prequal comics to learn that Megs is Primes 'brother' (either in arms or atual family is still unknown) and was second in command as the general of the military on cybertron. Thats why he was sad.

Even after the 2nd viewing though, I don't quite understand how BB got his voice back.

OF COURSE! The same way frenzy grew back. Duh!

Another thing I was wondering... was how come every thing S7 created was obviously decepticon prone.

Would it be because they arn't doing it properly and the little gadget bots are only getting animal like minds instead of full inteligence?

Dunno, but that Nokia-bot was smart enough to go bloody ape-shit in that box.

Before I leave my comments I have to say first that I loved the movie. So did my friends that I took with me. I'm definately going to see this at least 2 more times over the next week. There were a few things about the movie I didn't like.

First is how fast it was, seemed like everything was crammed in there. There was little screen time for the secondary bots, most of the 'Cons didn't talk and the ones who did only had like 1-2 lines. They were also killed off too fast, I wanted more action before they were snuffed. I also noticed that they used the transformation sound in the beginning of the film then it seemed to drop off into nowhere.

None of us had any clue where Barricade went off to, last I remember he was driving on the interstate when Bonecrusher attacked Prime. Nice little bug-eye effect during that fight thou. Not sure if that was a nod to the animated movie with the Devistator/Dinobots fight. I don't really know why they couldn't get Welker to do Megs, with all the manipulation they did you couldn't tell it was Agent Smith. Yes they called Brawl Devistator, no clue why they changed that at the last min.

It answer an earlier question Bumblbee's voice box got fixed when he took the All Spark. It wasn't shown directly, but from when Frenzy's head touched it and got his body back that was their "you figure it" out moment. Also I know some people are going to ask why the machines that came alive were all evil (Dew machine was the funniest one). The best way I can explain that is they have no major "programing", just given life, so basically they were like Scorponok.

I want to know Bay's explanation for the "no mass-shifting" when Frenzy did a TON of it. Kinda like where the hell was Prime keeping that sword?? Also if the All Spark gave life, was it naturally aggressive giving all these machines weapons right away? The phone had machine guns and a blade (I didn't see those parts standard with my phone) and all the things on the street were attacking people!

All I have to say is that when it comes out on DVD there better be a special extended cut like with LOTR, making it more like 4 hrs. That 2 hrs wasn't enough to tell all of the story, especially with the fight scenes. You have to see it more then once to get everything. I didn't even have any time to look for the easter eggs in the film. If this doesn't break some records I don't think that us TF Geeks our doing our part!
