Question about Experience Points

Postby _Anshin_ » Mon Oct 25, 2010 1:40 pm

Just a question but do you notice an a higher experience return for each level or is it pretty much a balance and wipe across the board? I ask this question because I have been keeping my bots at 0 and 1 while I experiment at different builds (a month or two each build) before I put them into higher ranks.

It depends on the mission which you partake. There are several cross level missions. The returns on those are at the lowest level range. But as you gain levels returns are increased accordingly if you join a single level mission or a cross level mission of a higher span.

Each level has more xp per point of damage you inflict.

Level 0 - 1xp
Level 1 - 2xp
Level 2 - 4xp
Level 3 - 8xp

And so on and so on doubling with each level. So if you do 50% damage to a level 3 you'll earn 400xp. If you do 50% to a level 2, you'd only earn 200xp.

This is where I am a bit confused, so I am thankful for any clarification that you are willing to provide. I did use the search and one of the past questions about this had a small answer that pretty much said something similar, however it also talked about if a level 0 hits a level 3 they get a higher return than a level 3 hitting a level 3. Is this true or did I misunderstand the concept.

they both get the same return, just the level 3 has a better chance over a level 1 off pulling off a hit and a higher amount of damage

I think your off there Zordie if a lvl 3 hits lvl 3 it's a 1-1 scale at 8xp per point of damage. If a lvl 1 hits a 3 then there is a damage multiplier in the formula. This can further be proven by how repair works. Although i won't get into that as that gets confusing for some, with all the variables that effect that tactic.

If a level 0 hits a level 3 for 1% damage they earn 8xp.
If a level 3 hits a level 3 for 1% damage they earn 8xp.

Technically the level 0 would get the better return provided they earn over 100xp (what I call their base xp). That's just my personal measurement of performance, whether or not my bots earn their base level of xp (100*level multiplier).

To put it another way, if it was a level 0 vs a level 3...

Level 3 wins the battle and earns 125xp (100% damage * level 0 multiplier (1) + 25xp mission bonus)
Level 0 loses the battle and earns 400xp (50% damage * level 3 multiplier (8))

So looking at that, even though the level 0 lost the battle, to me it won. It earned 4 times it's base xp and restricted the level 3 to only 15% of it's base level xp.

I have a question abot transforming; like to ram, avoid, strafe, repaire ... was there a time when we got exp for that? like 50exp for each sucessful transformation, or did I remember wrong. =/.

Thanks for the help.

You definitely get 50xp for avoid, but I am not sure about the others. I believe you get something extra for those too, but I am not sure. It does seem like I get a lot more XP when one of my bots does a lot of tactics, such as ram, but I do not know how it is quantified.

You get 50xp only for avoid.

What RoS might be thinking of is "overkill". Basically if you're opponent is down to 5% and you hit them with a strafe or a ram, you'll inflict more than 5% damage.

So in a one on one scenario, you get your opponent down to 5%, you've already earnt xp for 95%. You hit them with a ram attack that causes 20% damage, you dealt out 115% damage and get paid for it.
