Re: Rewards
Since the alts are going over well I got another idea.
Some of you think the Rankings are enough for reorganization but based on other games ranking alone doesn't satisfy everyone. I think we should replace the NEVER going to come back Minicon link for something useful.
I know the Cons run mini games with sub missions and I see talk of future tournaments that are based on more then just beating the opponent. I think people would like to have this done overall. It would be based on the person themselves submitting the results to a Mod or Stat Collector. So it would basically be the threads we have for Bragging or 100% Strafe club put in graph from. Adding other accomplishments would be great. You can come up with more but just to name a few would be something like. 100% health in the Arena, 10+ Avoids in a Mission, have 4+ Kills in one Strafe Attack, 8+ Rams in a Mission, Sole Survivor etc.
Over time more and more people would accomplish these achievements and we keep a running tally for the length of the game or for periods of time and then winners could possibly get some sort of special reorganization. Or get nothing at all other then their name being on the top of those categories. It would be like Stats from any sport, Most Goals, Points, Saves, Home Runs, RBI etc.
I’ll be moving soon and will have more time to put into the game. I would enjoy taking this responsibility and help adding another fun dimension to the game.

Im liking Caelus's idea a lot, might be tricky to implement though.
What might be possible in the shorter term is xbox-style achivements? A range of alts depending on the challenge so a 100% strafe would be given an permenent award alt from a set of firepower based ones. Work out other challenges and away we go. They would have to be claimed but its more incentive to watch your teams progress.
(ok, Max just beat me to the idea)
Oh, and Bloodbanes idea was brilliant. Tournaments to 'steal' alt designs from another faction. Great idea.

Out of interest, what was the highest recorded (minicon/botmode free) strafe you guys saw?Burn wrote:Plus it'll NEVER be as cool as the 100% & 150% Strafe Clubs.![]()
The 200% Strafe Club was never cool because it only had one member. hehehe

I like this idea too, it's always bugged me that there are fortmax alts floating around at lvl 0 (and yes Ive been just as guilty as everybody else in the past).
Psychout wrote:Im liking Caelus's idea a lot, might be tricky to implement though.
I think the simplest thing would be to add an aditional feild to all alts, ie:
Small: Starts at lvl 0.
Medium: Starts at lvl 3.
Large: Starts at lvl 6.
Huge: Starts at lvl 9.
A much simpler system than Tammuz's, and it'd allow for more scope with prize alts (ie you arnt garneteed enemy alts, so you still have a reason to fight for them in tournies and whatnot.
And if you've all gotten over the shock of me agreeing with my No.1 fan, Im now gonna agree with my No.2 fan too!
Burn's right (as is Tammuz and whoever else). The reward for being the first to whatever xp is the fact you've got all that xp. It's what the game's about.
The only exception I have to this rule would be some form of prize (im not talking alts here) for the first commander to max out a charector (asuming this version lasts anywhere near long enough for that).

Re: Rewards
The only thing I can add to the discussion is I think that it would be cool if tournaments were made instead of alts awarded from other factions what if the winner(s) (top scorers, top kills, whatever) got to choose so many alts from the Fan Made Alt pages to be put into rotation in the game. And maybe give them the ability to choose them on the spot the one time before they rotated in offically.

I know that has been offered as a prize in the past (though it was never actulyl inplimented if memory serves me).

those happen a little too often to be awarded prizes for my liking, if this was implemented in the previous version, the majority of board active players would have access to the majority of the alts, though getting an alt added to the ir factions rotation, rather than a PPA does seem a more appropriate.
as for all this Blerg sarcasm; we're all have the same goal in mind; betterment of the game, we just go about it in different methods, keep that in mind.

From memory (and you gotta remember just how many 100%+ strafes I alone did) it was around 120%-130%. It was a VERY rare thing to do (and for all I know Dice could have been the only one to do it) as you had to get all the influencing factors right. Outnumbered ... weaker opponents ... and one seriously pissed off female Decepticon.

With mini-con/bot-modes, 150%+ was pretty common. There was only one known 200% strafe (Whisper) but plenty came close. Such was the power of the mini-con/bot-mode abilities.

She opted for speed while her "sister" opted for massive firepower.
Dice never really got a back story as she didn't get the kitbash treatment, still have plans for it though, but having trouble finding the right bot for her, but when she does get done ... lots of funs to justify her title of "Unholy Goddess of Strafing".

That's about whats id guessed at.Burn wrote:it was around 120%-130%.
So, following on the alts as achievements idea, if there was one of a set made available for a 120% strafe and given out by the mods with a verified result, do you think would it be regarded as a worthwhile goal?

heh, if you can 120% it would want to be a pretty damn good reward/recognition.
This is still where it'd be handy to have "medals" in a bots profiles to go along with their bios and what nots.

I agree, and its something id love to implement, but im thinking along the lines of what the staff themselves can actually do.Burn wrote:heh, if you can 120% it would want to be a pretty damn good reward/recognition.

What if it were possible to add a unique alt, as picked by the winner, that only they could have?

I'm not really seeing a problem aside from the odd outburst of jealousy.
So i'll throw this out there, Player A achieves something and is rewarded with an alt mode of their choosing, they choose one from the player made thread and it's added in.
A few months down the track, Player B achieves something and is given the same reward of choosing their alt mode. What happens if they want the alt mode Player A chose? Should they be denied the chance to have a cool alt?
Tough call. But I guess you have to say to Player B, "it's unique for a reason".
Frankly I think giving players the choice to add in an alt mode of THEIR choosing from the player made thread is wrong. If alts are going to be added they should be a staff decision, or as we did in the past, have players submit a list of the ones they'd like with the most popular getting added.
Then just go back to how it was with alt modes being given PERMANENTLY to players who achieve things.

Thats what i'm hoping for, once an award is won then its kept.Burn wrote:Then just go back to how it was with alt modes being given PERMANENTLY to players who achieve things.
If player A & B agree to both use it, there is no issue. But there is also no reason why player B cant pick a similar alt for their award, there are millions of different Starscream images to chose from, finding a new one shouldn't be that hard.
In fact, the award could be anything people want to use for the alt pic. (within reason.)
All this is just brainstorming at the monent as im still finding my feet as staff, but I think its a good way to adding a new aspect to the game, especially as a sizeable chunk of players players here are collectors.

Actually when I brought up the idea about the fanmade alt mode reward I meant that the person who chose the alt would get it for their entire faction's rotating alts, but get first crack at it. I didn't mean it should be unique to the player, it'd be a reward for everyone then. For example if you were to win it Burn and you wanted one of your kitbash guys made into an alt for the Decepticons you'd submit a picture (unless you have alts made for them that are unused already) or pick an alt and you'd get first shot at it before it rotated in normally. I think that's pretty fair in the long run.

Well said, that's pretty much what I meant with my suggestion. For the record there's one existing alt I'd kill for (Steam Roller for Za Warudo) which to my knowledge isn't a Pred alt. And a couple that don't even exist that I wouldn't mind having.

I remember trying to convince whoever was in charge of HMW at the time (probably Ryan) that there should be a place on our bio pages allotted for such honors to automatically appear when achieved.
I can't find the one image I made as a prototype, but I do still have Word Docs on my computer about the idea from February 17, 2004.
