The guy may have been a legend in creating Star Wars, but he can't write for ****.
All hail Timothy Zahn!

2. Lightsabers are mag lights with no modification to them.
3. It has been milked to death in terms of merchandising and crappy tie in TV shows.
4. the acting is terrible.
5. It was promoted on the basis of new technology (specifically 5:1 sound)
and many other points

1. The story isn't as deep as it is expansive. Star Wars is all about the scale, the cast, and the mythos. An entire galaxy of players, soldiers, leaders, politicians, civilians, men, women, children, clones, sentient machines. It's the very opposite of lackluster, it's incredibly robust.
2. Lightsabers are just another kind of sword, albeit more awesome. Replace it with just about any other weapon that does the same thing, Dungeons and Dragons Flame saber, Optimus Primes Energon Axe, there's lots of examples.
3. Uh, yeah. It's a franchise. It hasn't done anything that EVERYONE hasn't done as well. Star Wars has the new Clone Wars cartoon. Transformers had animated...*shudders*
4. No...Hayden Christensons acting is terrible, and Natalie Portman did the best with what she had. As far as the rest of the cast, both trilogy, it was awesome acting. If you want BAD acting, I can get examples.
5. Most sci-fi movies are. Star Wars has pushed the envelope with CGI and digital filming. James Camerons Avatar pushed...just about everything, motion capture, 3D graphics and filming, high fidelity CGI, Bay's Transformers movies have really pushed the detail of modeling with their models of the TransFoermers. The boundries exist to be pushed.
I know, a little late to the game, but hey, first post in over 3 years!
