Owch, to me this would a pass at half the price
plenty of primes out there to choose from though at this point. Think my MP Ghostbusters Optimus was cheaper than this thing.

I love the blast-off effects, but I think the gun blasts are pretty weak. I would much prefer something like those that came with Ultra Magnus or Siege Jetfire.
I'm conflicted on this since I *just* got ER Prime and really love him. This may be a tough sell.

I first thought it looked like core class as well because I was looking at the photos on my phone and the simple colour palette washed out the details.
But I think that's the point of this toy, it's meant to look like the animation model which was simple. And it's going to take extra complexity to achieve that like how MP 44 is way more complex than MP 10 to resemble more closely the simple cartoon model.

Yep, I'll get it. As the very final word on a modern CHUG G1 Optimus Prime.
The ER mold is good, but there are too many compromises on plastic color choices and a few lacking accessories. I knew it would be replaced immediately upon seeing it. It was too far away from perfect. But I think it's an excellent choice for those who want a Prime who doesn't rely on fake parts. Especially the Takara repaint.

Part of me was hoping it was another Siege retool just to see the world burn. But this, this is the Prime I think we've been waiting for. For me this confirms that Masterpiece is basically a dead line as Generations has stepped up and in this case, does the characters better. I hope that like MP 03 the arm of the repair bay can be used as a stand of sorts. This is as good as the figure from my preview months ago.

You've got a slightly sick sense of humor, Chuck.
And I dig it.
I've looked over these photos a lot... And sure, we haven't seen every angle. But when my one nit-pick is that I wish the antennae tapered more to points, that's a pretty good sign that we're looking at a really good figure.
Edit: I’m not calling it yet, but I could see this taking the Figure of the Year title away from Swoop…
This really does appear to be the definitive, mainline G1 Optimus figure.

Well, not an Optimus Prime collector by any means, but I do want this one a lot! Wow it looks like the quintessential Optimus Prime figure I've been wanting to get. I hope the SS86 Megatron that's rumored turns out true and looks just as good as this one.

Prime does look pretty good from the front, but I'm still concerned about the messy backpack. Also the trailer still doesn't stack up to the original. Why do they keep leaving out the Diaclone mini-figure seats? Sure they wouldn't be functional but they'd be more interesting than another big boring gray box. Paint the inside of that sucker, the original was so colorful!

The seats are there, just a bit shallow and left unpainted.

Re: Studio Series 86 Discussion
A small nitpick of mine it the cab front in alt mode looking too "choppy" due to parts forming or whatever, same thing that annoys me about Iron Hide mold around the door/windows. And I get it, but can't help feel it affects their aesthetics compare to the often streamline look of the G1 bots in alt mode. It's no doubt a tough balance to strike with increased articulation these days while also trying to maintain a smooth car look, but I often come away feeling that they just don't look as good in alt mode.
Another aspect about this version of Prime is that because I don't fiddle with them too much nor display them in alt mode I feel as if the trailer is a wasted part which is an unneeded expense. While it's much nicer than previous one and nice that it includes roller etc. it is an "extra" that is basically in storage. Same way Rodimus Prime's is, so I'd be interested in a potential release w/o trailer if that's doable.

Matrix Revealed!
Unfortunatelly its the same matrix from the previous figures. Earthrise Prime, Kingdom Rodimus, SS86 Magnus.... I was hoping for something a little larger.
3rd parties, get on it. We need an update kit with a larger Matrix. Make it light up while you're at it.
This also means, he can't actually hold it correctly by the handles. Not sure his big honking trigger finger is even going to fit in the space there.

Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Hello Transformer fans!
Seems the Bot is out of the bag!
Our Friends over at Gizmodo just dropped the reveal article for SS86 Optimus Prime!
https://gizmodo.com/hasbro-studio-series-optimus-prime-transformers-the-movie-2000473908
Tomo san was an absolute wizard in bringing this figure to life at our CMD price point and I hope you all will stay tuned as I follow up with another post to answer some questions I've seen floating around.
Pre-orders go live today 7/16 @ hasbropulse at 1 pm ET.
Thank you,
-Evan
Here's the rest of the second post, and all the pics therein:
Hi Transformers fans,
I wanted to follow up to give you all a bit more info on our new SS86 CMD Optimus Prime!
Designed by the wonderful Tomo san over at Takara Tomy, this bot was a passion project.
One of my favorite design flourishes that Tomo san came up with is how he achieved matching the animated leg's curved profile. Its a very simple hinge that then allows the truck bed to go flat when you flip it over, it's brilliantly simple! I certainly love when blue robot boots are in that that shape and it really brings the animated look to life.
We set out with several "must haves" for this figure, including some extra articulation in his chest so he can clasps his hands together to deliver a final blow to Megatron. The butterfly hinges really does give him some next level posing ability.
He's about a head taller than our previous LDR Earthrise Optimus which helps him scale a lot better with our more recent figures.
He of course comes with the Matrix and is even articulated enough that he can be posed opening his chest panels.
Roller and Auto Launcher house inside the trailer who can also merge together to roll around and cause some damage. Roller can even pull the Trailer by himself if need be along with having Titan masters ride inside him.
We sided the combat deck so that it can carry a DLX carbot inside while Roller and Auto Launcher are also housed.
Lastly, if you happened to have picked up our Comic Shockwave exclusive with the Severed Optimus head included, I'm happy to show that it also fits on this Prime! albeit, a bit small as we wanted to make sure the Earthrise Prime could still transform with it attached.
Even though this is an 86 item, it was developed with the intent of being a celebration of the G1 Series 40th anniversary. I hope you all will enjoy him as his transformation is quite fun and addicting.
Thanks,
-Evan
