Is Combiner Wars Devastator the closest we will get to a Masterpiece Devastator?

No, Takara's UW Devastator is. The interview with the designer who makes MPs and who did this Devastator said that his starting point was a design he had done for Masterpiece Devastator. He had to remove pieces to abide to Hasbro's parts count as the process continued but brought them back for the Takara release.

I got that feeling from the interview. As for anything official, Takara has confirmed that they have no plans for a Masterpiece Devastator at the moment. However, for me since the word Masterpiece isnt written on the box, I am not calling it a Masterpiece. If they never make an MP Superion, would UW Superion suddenly become MP Superion?

On a business stand point,no. TT will officially be releasing Devs end of 2015 for Japan. They'll probably be milking the mold for all its worth (Limited edition yellow (G2) Devs or even Diaclone orange/G2 color Devs or visor/no visor verson, Evangelion edition, Bape edition etc)for the forseable future. All the investment and R&D stuff (remember MP-01? Or MP-10 for that matter)

Plus if they,TT, try to do it the right scale, the sales would probably be confined to Japan's (and a few international)hard core adult collectors only. The investment won't be worth the effort.

Hey Rodimus, I fear I may have given you an unfair shake. I will give you a much better example and you can then decide for yourself if you would call United Warriors Devastator an MP Devastator.

He is basically the same thing as Legends Arcee. In a rare occasion nowadays, Arcee was redesigned by Takara and does not use the offical more CHUG design Hasbro wanted. The idea is that this is the first toy of G1 Arcee proper and there is no point in making an updated version if she never had an actual toy. So Takara made Generations Arcee to be G1 arcee. Unlike almost every other classics figure, the sculpt is cartoon accurate and features no "modern" update. Her vehicle is even cybertronian unlike the car found in the IDW comics. And the Legends version features the G1 show deco highlighting how the sculpt is faithful to the G1 character model.

Do you consider her an MP Arcee? Just as in UW Devastator, Legends Arcee is not in line with the rest of the Classics figures, and is designed by Takara. And also as with Devastator, there is no indication that she will have an MP anytime soon.

Devastator is also much more G1 than other CHUG figures and the Takara colours make him show accurate. He does have a bit of modernizing though, like with the cement dump truck. Actually, that makes Arcee more faithful to her G1 character model than any other CHUG figure ever, including Devastator.

So, by the logic of the MP line which is all about giving the most perfect interpretation of a character, Legends Arcee fits that bill more than UW Devastator. Do you consider her an MP? If not, then you shouldnt consider Devastator an MP either.

In all honesty, they haven't done such a bad job since they acquired Marvel, and Star Wars seems to be doing okay so far.

But then we're talking about two franchises that have decades of lore that is mostly in-continuity (with a few variances). Transformers however is just all over the place.

I don't think a MP Devastator would be much bigger than what we have now if at all. They may make the Constructions a bit bigger, but mostly just more complex. Devy himself is a pretty complex/intricate beastie, but I was trying to snap some pics of him yesterday and found the limits of his articulation. I found that because of the way his legs combine he cannot kneel. Also his thumb is fixed and gets in the way of fun. He cannot grab his gun barrel or tiny bots very well. I would think biggest difference an MP Devastator would have over the current version would be the articulation that is typical of MP bots.

I feel that Disney has been the best thing for the Star Wars franchise since Star Wars.

Didn't Disney basically state that only the movies were now considered canon?

If they did pick up the TF franchise and straighten out the canon/timeline, would that be a bad thing? Well of course it could be.

The one thing that would come from Disney owning TF, a lot more crossover merchandise. Disney Infinity anyone?
