So about those Beast Wars ....

I've begun to compile a wish list for TFcon this year, and I want to shoot for some of the non-show beasts while also doing my best to wrap up my BWII guys, since they are pretty small at the moment.

What figures would be best to keep an eye out for? I really hope to find a nice Polar Claw

Polar Claw has been on my list of “gets” for a long while now, but I’ve never pulled the trigger on one. MISB ones tend to be over priced, and finding a used one that’s in good shape, complete, and that doesn’t suffer from yellowing can be sort of a pain. Still if I had a choice between picking up Polar Claw or Survive, I’d go for Survive. I’m more partial to his color scheme. It’s just too bad he’s always so expensive.

Barbearian is definitely a great looking use of that mold, but I imagine he’d cost quite a lot. I’ve never actually investigated what he goes for. Still, if you put him next to an Airazor, and headcanon partnered them together, they’d look like quite a spiffy pair.

What all are you actually missing at this point, D-Max? I know we’ve both been on a big Beast Wars quest, and I think we have very similar taste in what we look for in a BW figure.

It's never going to happen, in terms of Masterpiece, but the Polar Claw/Grizzly-1/Barbearian/Survive mold was really one I would have liked to see more of. Definitely would have liked to see a TM and TM2 Bear.

There were some characters I adapted in my own drawings and stories. TM Scorponok for example, I based on a G1 homage in terms of his beast and bot mode (but with the BW colour scheme) and adapted his G1 Base Form into a static Weapons Platform. One feature being it deployed Cyber Bee shaped drones.

For the non-series characters, I either took inspiration from contemporaries EG TM 2 Cybershark's "jet" mode, was the blueprint for every aquatic based character TM upgrade. Or I looked to emphasis common traits in their tech specs for inspiration...

When you're a Maximal soldier under the instruction of Survive (サバイブ Sabaibu), you don't just drop and give him twenty, you drop and give him twenty-thousand. In the rain. While he kicks you in the ribs. Then you get up, thank him and ask for another. The most notorious drill instructor in the Maximal Military Academy, the mere utterance of his name is enough to send tremors of awe and terror through any new recruit who hears it. Survive firmly believes that a military unit lives and dies by the quality of its teamwork, and the best way to bond a team of misfits is by making them trudge through Hell together. So give 'em Hell is exactly what Survive does. And he's very good at it.

I always went into Research Mode when thinking this stuff through. Even though no one would ever see my work, alternate modes still had to make sense regardless.

Show wise, I pretty much have nailed down the original US cartoon cast, though i count Tigerhawk as both Tigatron and Airazor and don't have figures of them yet. Once Blackarachnia arrives, I'll have that whole cast.

Neo wise, the only 2 from the show I still want are Bazooka and Rockbuster, though I will take a Bump, Survive, and Killer Punch if I could find them at decent prices.

BWII is where I am weak at the moment. I only have Galvatron, Lio Convoy, Bighorn, and Apache. I need to fill out the rest of the cast, but they are much more expensive for the most part. Predacon wise the only ones I still want are Gigastorm and the Cyborgs, I have no interest in the vehicle mode preds.

Outside of that, I'm probably short about 75% or more of the Transmetals and Fuzors, and I'd like to work my way towards getting one of each mold eventually, with more focus on those who starred in the IDW Beast comics.

Damn, D_Max! that is an impressive setup!

Anyway, to start, here's my MP figures.



Primal, Dinobot, and Cheetor. I love all three of them. Dinobot's one of my all-time faves. The transformation is just insane. I don't own MP Megatron... the whole crotch issue just makes me WAY too nervous.

Finally got to handle a complete OG Waspinator mold, in the form of Buzzsaw. And he is pretty dang nice! I like the mold, and the regular robot mode face is really nice and differentiates him from Waspy. I like the purple thrown in there too, makes for a catchy looking bot!

And the completion of this guy was all thanks to our own Siebertron, who took the battered husk that I had and transformed it with all of the missing parts!

I think they made an excellent Longrack homage here. In both forms, he is a really fun figure, and one of the real gems of Neo!

Hasbro subsequently brought them to the US, while adding Optimus Prime and Demolishor with retooled keys to the mix. The four were re-released in a single set during Universe 2008, with a redeco of that Prime.

I dug up a few of BW toys, namely Armordillo, Iguanus, and Neo Hydra and thoroughly enjoying their spring-loaded transformations. I also have Snapper and an incomplete Insecticon back home and missing them lots.

I really want to find Buzzsaw. Then he and Longrack can be rivals in vehicle form. Plus, Buzzsaw now has a special place in my collection, so it would be nice to get his other toy too.

And hell yeah to springloaded transformations. The Beast Wars basics are what 1-steps today should strive to be. Razorbeast is the best, but I find Snapper to be incredibly adorable
