... when she's going away for six months travelling in South America? She's my ex-girlfriend from a year ago, we've recently got back together in everything but name. She says that she knows what I'm like and that I can 'mess around' whilst she's away, but that it's on a strictly loan basis. To me that suggests that she wants to be free and to not have to worry about me 'playing away' whilst she is travelling like she would have to if we were in a relationship.

Anyway, she's coming to see me in a few days time for the last time before she goes away. I want to get her something to take with her that will remind her of me, something really nice and sweet... I've been thinking bracelets, necklaces... yet they seem so mundane.

SO I'm going out in a limb here.

Any ideas. gentlemen (and ladies)?

If it's the girl you really want, how about something that splits into two parts, one for each of you. Ask her to be yours again, and make the promise that you will not be unfaithful. And actually be man enough to keep that promise.

She's a very independent girl. Neither of us want that complication, and we'd both rather wait until she comes back. Saying that, if she did ask me to wait for her then I would without even doubting that I wouldn't be able to keep that promise. I'd never cheat on her.

Don't underestimate how someone will respond to a gesture like that. I would seriously consider it if I were you.

As for a gift, get her something that has some extreme significance, although nothing as extreme like cutting off an ear.

Although, then again....you say she has your heart. Give it to her, go buy a miniature heart from somewhere, and give that to her.

If that doesn't work, go with something that has a good amount of significance for either one of you.

I think the necklace that splits in two sounds great. Go for a heart shaped one though, as that would seem rather appropriate.



And when she comes back tell her you've waited. And don't lie. I'd think that's a pretty good show of loyalty, without that complication you were trying to avoid.

In all seriousness, a new car, (or an old one she likes), is always a great idea.
Whether or not you'll actually go so far, though, is not for me to say.

This might sound waaaaaaay soppy but its a nifty idea, ive used it before and it works.....

If u are in anyway hand make her a jigsaw (buy her some bling too, but this ill take her breath away) If ya cant make one "kitbash" and existing one, make a love heart or a photo of the two of u, whatever. Once you have it complete write a message on it u only want her to see, something that'll really stick with her when she is gone.

For extra bonus points keep a piece for urself, when u meet back up after the separation but all of the pieces back together, make up what ever poetic reason u want the gesture is damn nice, and it will get u laid!

Buy six little trinkets and wrap each one in a tiny box. Write a short love note, and put a date on each one, one month from each other. That way she'll open gifts from you to remind her that you care.

Don't make no grand gesture with jewlery, cause trust me that only makes for a fleeting moment.

Now if she's an ex, that basicly wants to keep you on a leash while she's away having some fun doing whatever it is that she's gonna go do, that you're never gonna wanna hear ALL about....

Do something like what she said, go to a place where you two had a moment, pick up a rock and wrap it.

I know that sounds bad, but if you write a note with it saying where it came from and so on about how you liked the sun and trees and kiss and crap and wanted her to remember and have a piece of it and stuff...

Well, chicks like that. The love jewlery and stuff. But tjis is a breed of people who buy decorative little boxes with nothing in them, little stuff counts.

So give her whatever, even through in a broken bot with a note.

In the notes, don't drone on, short and sweet, and you'll do well.

Just remember, bare minimum! Girls like being treated like crap untill their take and wonder about the guy that loved them to much.

In the end, be a good guy, but remember, if you keep your , you'll get to use them more often!

I was going to suggest something similar, a box of sealed sappy notes for every few weeks with something nice in every so many envelopes, like a photo of you guys or a pressed flower. I'm assuming you know what her favourite flower is.
The upside to this one is that she's not as likely to open them all on a single night. Trust me, buy her six presents and they'll be opened in the departure lounge. Few dozen love letters might last a weekend, or if she's sufficiently sick of them quick enough, they'll stretch long enough.

Well anytime a woman says it's ok for you to have sex with other women, be it while she's away or still at home, it means that she most definatly will be having sex with other men/women. Most likely men. And lots of them. Now I don't know you, and I certainly don't know her. But coming from my mysoginistic mindset that makes sense to me. Why else would she tell you it's ok to fool around on her if she wasn't planning on doing it to you? It's their twisted way of screwing around on you behind your back guilt free.

Not to mention the first fight you get into she's going to throw every woman you slept with in your face, and justify the men she slept with on you sleeping with other women. Short and simple it's a test, she's going to sleep around on you regardless. She just wants to see if your a loyal man. In other words she wants to see how far she can manipulate you.

Gee can't tell I've had my heart ripped out, tossed in a blender, and force fed to me by a bunch of women in my time can you? I don't want to see another man go thru that sort of thing. Even a total stranger.

Animus is right, as much as I hate to admit it. But at least some women will tell you, in a roundabout way, that they intend on fooling around. Men often don't do such a thing.

You wanted a sweet idea of something to give to her, but yeah, it's pretty obvious of her intentions. Whether it's to manipulate you, well I wouldn't use that exact word, but she's leaving it pretty open-ended.

Do you want the item to be a friendly gesture or something to let other guys know she is "spoken for". To me it sounds like she is leaving her options open in case she meets her "Prince Valiant" while away. And she will come back to you if she comes up empty. It probably would be best not to get her anything too expensive or cliche like hearts and expensive jewelry until she comes back and the two of you can figure out if you want to pursue a relationship again.
