Question for you BW fans

would you recommend the BW figures to a G1 fan that loves the classics line. I missed out on the cartoon so im slightly hesitent to pick any of the bw characters up.

It would depend on the figures in my opinion. I like the show but don't care for the toy line. I'd recommend Depth Charge, Rampage, Megatron (the t rex and the TM dragon, the TM t rex is kinda lame), and the Transmetal figures. Some of the toys are crappy, but use your judgment I guess. See if you can get one cheap (you can get lots on eBay, usually for cheap) and take it from there. The ones I mentioned are just ones that I really love.

Depends on the figure. Personally, I like the Inferno figure and wish I'd bought one when they were around... just never did. Scorponok too.

As for making the call as to whether or not you should buy them for yourself, I recommend taking full advantage of the Seibertron galleries.

Well, it's Japan only, but if your a G1 fan, I would suggest Ravage. I don't have the figure, but in the show, it really was Ravage:

As for other figures, just take a look around at http://www.tfu.info, or the other galleries at Seibertron and see what you like.

I personally like Claw Jaw, Optimus Minor, Snapper, and Transmetal Waspinator.

As a G1 fan who didn't quite take to them initially, I did come around. Definitely the best show.

On topic? Basic Terrorsaur's got a great robot mode. Transmetal Scourge and Waspinator I also love. Why we didn't see TM Waspy in the show I'll never know. Much better and best 'vehicle' mode of the Transmetals. He's an honorary Seeker.

Fuzor Silverbolt is a work of art.

Love both Iguanus molds too. Oh and Slapper, oh and the RID Predacon trio.

In summary, I can recommend them.

Yeah, if you aren't too sure about the Beast Wars line, there's tons of reviews and images to help you decide where to start. I would recommend Transmetals and Transmetals 2 to start with, because generally they're more popular than the normal figures, Fuzors, or Mutants.

I like Scarem too, but would probably not have if not for Chosen's suggestion. That's right, you don't like Optimus Minor do you?

Oh, and Terrorgator is a very cool little guy. Odd robot mode(gator head for an armpit?), but with weapons, he's great.

Like they said it really depends on the character, I had quite a few BW chars in my day and they were all pretty though you do get the occasional crap figure every once in a while. Optimus Primal in his first ape form, T-rex Megatron, TM T-rex Megatron, TM Dragon Megatron, TM Optimus Primal, Optimal Optimus, TM2 Dinobot, TM2 Cheetor, TM Rattrap, Rhinox, Quickstrike, Rampage, Depth Charge, Tigerhawk and Tripedacus were the BWs I had and I have to say they were all pretty good, they had decent transformations, great alt modes and very nice and poseable bot modes. If you are still having a hard time deciding why not simpley buy or rent Beast Wars on DVD and check it out?

Out of the ones I have, I'd recommend 10th Anniversary Primal vs. Megatron, TM Primal, Optimal Optimus, and TM Rattrap.

I would say give non show toys a chance too.

I like the pre transmetals alot since they look alot like animals. Like Snapper, Armadillo, Drillbit, Jetstorm, Manterror, Waspinator, Buzzsaw, Clawjaw, Spittor, Primal, etc.

Of Transmetals, I suggest Rattrap, Blackarachnia, Optimus Primal, Scavenger, Tarantulas, and so on.

Fuzors, my favs, Torca, Terragator, Airhammer, Bantor, Skyshadow, etc.

Beast Wars the Second and Beast Wars Neo had excellent ones, too. Such as Big Convoy, Galvatron, Magmatron, Scuba, Diver, Dirgegun, Hellscream, etc.

As a G1 fan who did not watch Beast Wars until recently, I disliked almost everything I'd seen from the toy line, which unfortunately had not been its most successful entries. The early attempts at biological looking beasts only moderately succeeded, whereas many of the later techno-organic entries in Beast Machines also fell short.

The sweet spot would be the Transmetals. TM2 Megatron's nothing short of terrific--he's worth it just for the dragon, transformation aside. TM Airazor, Cheetor, Tarantulas, and Primal all come to mind as eye-catching toys, as do Depth Charge, Rampage, and Silverbolt. I'm also rather fond of Scavenger, which some people dislike because they view the ant legs in 'bot mode as kibble. I say the guy has six deadly pincers! BW Ravage is indeed terrific, but way too expensive.

Watch "The Agenda" from the Beast Wars series. If the combination of character and figure quality draws you in, there you go!

Watch the show, and you'll want most of the characters off the show. Seriously, though, give the DVDs a chance. A few stories tie in well with G1.

Back on topic... I like most of the figures, actually, but my favourites...

Rampage - All three modes are cool. Working treads in tank mode, his gun spins the barells and fires. Decent articulation. His real weakness is he's a little top heavy, but you can still balance him pretty easy on his feet if you try.

Tarantulas (regular) - I like the regular Trarantulas better than the Transmetal version (although it's ok too). He's a pretty cool looking robot. Plus you can probably still find him in the 10th anniversary re-releases. I like that he can rip his spider arms off and use them as missiles.

TM2 Megatron - Amazing shiny dragon goodness. The only weakness of this figure is in robot mode his dragon arm looks kind of limp. Otherwise, he's great.

TM2 Blackarachnia - This is what a female transformer should look like. :) Her one bad point is she has a kicking action that in mine's case makes her waist a little loose to stand. She looks great in beast mode, though, as well as robot mode.

TM2 Iguanus - The beast mode looks cool, but I love this guy's robot mode. He's got some very humanistic looking stuff on him. An eye patch, a kind of "skirt" around the back of him... well, a manly skirt, like a kilt or roman warrior would have. I also like the way the tail hangs down the back of his head, makes it look like he's got some crazy hair hanging down. He's also got really good articulation.

Insecticon - A cool little guy. He's got a crossbow hidden in two parts under his beatle wings. I don't know what it is about this guy, but I like him.

Razorclaw (crab) - A cool crab guy that looks neat in both modes.

You may also want to check out some Universe repaints that were pretty good. Tigerhawk repainted as Universe Razorclaw is amazing. TM2 Iguanus' repaint as Reptilion is cool as well.
