What we need is a programmer willing to spend the time here to build a new version from the ground up who understands the premise of the game who can keep the same basic timings for the game and who is also willing to accept help when they need it. We've had some talent programmers in the past who sadly lacked the people skills to survive the big bad interwebz, and others who could do the forums but not the programming. One day we'll find one that can do both but until then we keep on grinding wit what we have, HMW as it is isn't going anywhere.
As for the rare-common-core thing, Anshin pretty much covered that. It only really affects you if you reset your characters often as the alt list changes every 3 days. Cores are always available, commons take abou 1-2 weeks depending on number in a category and rates roughly a month.
If there are any alts that you really want, have a look the althunt thread where you can request a specific altmode in the game as long as you pass an in-game challenge. There will be a similar version for weapons in the not too distant future too, but that will be much harder as weapons are more permanent than altmodes.
Hope that helps and welcome to the forum
Well Psychout all of that information is very interesting. I've done some programming in my day and can be quite personable;) I've worked in teams on a couple of projects. I'm a little rusty but I take to programming pretty naturally. And while I don't have much free time I'd maybe like to donate a little to it if I can.
As far as I can tell it seems that it's all database driven. all the character stats are run through some formulas and there's our game. Now its a little more complex than that I'm sure but I think I could contribute.
If maybe a couple other guys get on board we could put a couple hours a week in maybe it'll happen this time. No promises, but if its a start from the ground up I think it'd be easier than trying to shoe horn stuff in to the old system. It would be nice to get a look at the current code though. It could help cut out a good chunk of time.
I actually started to make my own transformers prg(ish) combat mini game. It was back when Alternators were still coming out so I was using graphics from them. Basically you had an rpg type character with tech specs, weapon and some other things (I'll have to dig into it again to see all the details) and your character would go rounds with another character until one died then you would get XP. It was a bastard version of 1990's D&D combat I through together because that's what I'm familiar with. Wanted to make the characters kinda detailed but keep combat simple. The original idea was to try and make a whole online thing similar to HMW but just a little more detailed and with (and I'm not complaining now but) better graphics.
I just started the characters and combat first because it was something I could start testing fairly quick. But, then I had a computer die and a move and I never set it back up. I still have all of the files somewhere.
So while I don't want to get any hopes up, I'd like to continue this conversation for a couple of days and see what happens. I'm super busy this weekend in particular but I'll start really studying the current system to make sure I(we?) keep it the same game. What I don't want to do is change it so much that it isn't really the same game anymore.
