Hasbro! The entire point of the Siege line was to be about the cast of G1 before they leave Cybertron and go to Earth, so everyone in that line had Cybertronian altmodes that predated the ones they would later take upon their arrival on Earth.
The whole War For Cybertron Trilogy was supposed to be a narrative journey across three toylines, with Siege having the characters on Cybertron before they go to Earth (thus having pre-Earth Cybertronian altmodes), Earthrise having the journey and ultimate arrival on Earth (thus having Earth altmodes plus the alien Quintessons, whom they they would encounter during the voyage to Earth), and Kingdom having the war renewed on Earth (thus having more Earth altmodes, plus Beast Wars as part of that series's 25th anniversary).
Saying that the Siege toys aren't G1 just because they don't turn into Earth vehicles is like saying the Origin Bumblebee and Origin Jazz toys aren't G1 because they turn into a mini-saucer and a hover shoe, respectively. There is no way that G1 Ultra Magnus would have turned into a 1980s White Freightliner WFT-8664T cabover semi-trailer truck back on Cybertron four million years before he ever first came to Earth.
Clearly you didn't catch that rhetorical question...
Which was supposed to be part of my point that a Cybertronian alt mode may have been seen during a G1 episode, but being seen in a cartoon doesn't make that specific alt mode THE alt mode of that character. No one was questioning why a Cybertronian alt mode would be different... I don't know why that was ever even brought up.
My main point with that statement is sure, someone at Hastak may say the Siege UM was a stylized G1 figure of that character, but it obviously wasn't a version that completely embodies G1 Ultra Magnus. Which as you and others have said, wasn't the point of Siege or those alt modes.
I don't know why I have to say this again, but if it (the Siege figure) were truly a G1 UM, the ER version wouldn't exist, and this new CC version wouldn't exist now, and maybe not ever.
No collector, fan, casual fan, or person who knows any G1 characters would claim the alt mode of Bumblebee is a saucer-type spaceship... Or that G1 Soundwave's alt mode is some space radar/antenna/light post. In fact, the vast majority of those groups would never think to say G1 Starscream's alt mode is a tetrajet.
You're conflating alt modes that were seen on the show, with the alt modes that are most widely known, accepted and associated with these characters.
Which doesn't really make sense, nor does it change what I've said.
But if you believe that these G1 characters are more known and/or identifiable because of their Cybertronian alt modes, and those are what you most closely associate as alt modes for these characters, well, okay.
We can agree that we definitely disagree on that.
Moving on...
If you love Siege, and that greebly, stylization is your ideal, definitive look for figures, that's awesome. Because it's happened. A decent portion of figures in your collection have peaked.
If you don't understand how other collectors may not share that perspective, and that others may want their figures to look closer to how they did in the cartoon and animated movie, there's no more to say.
I don't know how people wouldn't understand that, but it's clear to many collectors, AND Hastak, that there is still a market for screen-accurate TF toys.
What really is a bit frustrating is when I've see anyone say a TF figure of a G1 character is "too cartoony". Of course anyone can have that opinion. Having that opinion is by no means an issue.
But to mention it or bitch about it like any other human on the planet is going to share their vision of the "correct" or "perfect" balance of cartoon likeness and stylization...
Let alone, that their vision should or would be widely accepted by those who are in favor of the original, established appearances, and/or be manifested into a mass-produced toy... That's seriously ridiculous to the point of being insane.
I want to ask those people, "What do you want??!?"
Or better yet, "What are you
realistically expecting?!!?!".
These characters were created 38-40 years ago.
And no one needs to bring up "But ehhh, there's been like, ehhh, animation errors"...
While true, that doesn't change the fact that each of these characters does have an actual concrete appearance, just like Mickey Mouse and Bart Simpson. Which again, are appearances established almost 4 decades ago.
Not to mention, there have been stylized, less cartoony figures of G1 characters since 2006!
You know that 'ol acronym, "CHUG"?
Good, bad, or indifferent, every single one of those figures in each of those lines was stylized.
I know these fall under the Generations banner, but it was the same for PotP and TR...
No, not everyone wanted a deluxe class Galvatron with a tank alt mode.
Not everyone wanted a Galvatron with a mask-looking, Headmaster gimmick.
Not everyone was thrilled with deluxe-sized Dinobots, or Legends class Insecticons.
I almost forgot, the Fall of Cybertron line... Talk about stylized... Holy hell.
"But ehhhh, I've been waiting, for ehhh...".
Yeah, we've all been waiting.
The 2 Snarls that just showed up today aren't exactly repaints of the PotP mold (which I skipped).
So today, July 23rd 2023, I finally have my favorite Dinobot in my collection.
Ever since Classics and that highly stylized, deluxe class Grimlock, I've been waiting for legit Dinobots.
The reality is many, many, many people have waited a long time for legit, screen accurate, G1 figures. It's not a complaint, a flex, or a pity party. It's the truth.
