About 1500 of mine dropped off a while ago. I think it happens during housekeeping of the forums...
Mine dropped by 4,000. Which is fine, I'm already posting too much as is.

Kind of petty, but I was really bummed that I messed it up and lost about 14,000 posts from my original count. After reading some of your posts in this thread over the past couple of weeks, I finally figured out how to restore it yesterday. Wrote a script to fix it and wa la! We're back in business with our actual post counts since at least 2002!

my news count hasn't gone up past 11 yet if you click it you'll see I (at time of typing this) have 16 news credit items listed. It's not a big deal but thought someone might like to look into it in case part of a bigger problem.

I can't say for certain but I would guess that "Top 5" is too short of a search string.
Try this instead.
