You have to check in before that. We finally got to the front of the line to check in after waiting in line for about 20 minutes only to find out that we were five minutes too late to check out bags in. United's rule is that your bags have to travel with you so they were going to put us on stand by but the next flights for today were all sold out. The United staff was rude and didn't offer to help us in any way.
FIVE FRIKKIN' MINUTES!!!
Long story short (yes, there's more to it than this post), I ended up hopping on my laptop and was able to snag 2 tickets for flights later today for Eric and I. $400 some more dollars later, we're in O'Hare, sitting down, eating McDonald's, trying to kill the next 4 hours until our flight to D.C. where we will connect to our flight to Providence.
Man, after the ordeal with JetBlue at JFK airport back in February and this ordeal today, I'm starting to think that I'm just not meant to fly. Ugh. This sucks!!!
Less learned: get to the airport 2 hours before your scheduled departure.
