Felt the need to post a list of the stuff I've written. Partly because some people expressed surprise at my being awesome, partly because I felt the need to renew my efforts to get my foot in the door as regards game text. So here's a table of contents, to show what I'm capable of and what the world I've been constructing is like. Anyone in favour of this being the canon used for HMW, feel free to worship and adore me.
This will be updated periodically with more, as I still have projects on which I'm working.

Witchhammer

"Heresy grows from idleness."

Hailing from the Autobot-ruled world of Torquemada, Witchhammer was raised with the planet’s fierce belief system, a mono-dominant faith preaching that those who do not bend to the will of Primus must be made to see the errors of their way. As such, he and his kind have an intense hatred for the followers of the Monster Planet, Unicron, and maintain an academy to train their warrior-priests to hunt down and destroy these wretched spawn. Witchhammer excelled in all fields during his training, his mastery of the scriptures of Primus surprising even the oldest of the order’s warrior-monks; while his martial ability soon came to surpass that of even his trainers. The planet’s elders kept a careful eye on this promising youth, and soon began to believe he had been appointed by Primus as a sacred warrior, chosen to destroy the enemies of their creator. And so, on the eve of his graduation from their monastery-academy, they approached the eager young warrior, and presented him with their oldest relic, the Ballistae Malleus Malificarum, the witch hammer cannon, and bade him leave their world, never to return until he had cleansed the taint of apostasy and heresy from across the stars.
One of the Witchhammer’s first actions upon beginning this Herculean task was to visit Cybertron, and from there, the orbiting head of Unicron. Inside this grim satellite, he discovered data recordings which had not been destroyed with the obliteration of Unicron’s physical body. From these, he gleaned knowledge of the existence of Jesus Prime, Unicron’s appointed prophet and acolyte. Considering this as worthy a target as any other, Witchhammer gathered together his available resources, and set about locating Prime’s whereabouts. However, the trail soon turned dead, as every lead the inquisitor found ended up leading to a void in space, a vast darkness between the stars where he had been told there had been a planet.
Abandoning this seemingly futile quest, Witchhammer soon turned his attention to purging the myriad ranks of the Sweeps, a legion of warriors spawned by Unicron in the last days of the Great War. Although this was ultimately a futile effort, he hoped that these killings would draw the attention of a worthier foe, someone worth tracking down. His instincts were right, and eventually dozens of cult leaders dared to engage in combat with this righteous crusader – all of them falling to his superior training and armaments. However, one opponent did not fall so easily – a massive warrior in yellow armour, wielding a gruesome hook and chain and never uttering a sound. Having fought this goliath to a standstill, Witchhammer looked in awe as it mysteriously vanished in a haze of green smoke. Remembering what little information he had learned of Jesus Prime, he knew that this silent behemoth had been The King In Yellow, Prime’s personal bodyguard. Resolving to track the beast down once more, in order to slay both him and his master, Witchhammer resumed his quest, boarding his personal star-ship End of Apostasy, and following any signs he could find of the massive yellow warrior.
Witchhammer’s formidable training encompasses many aspects of warfare, and his prodigious tactical mind allows him to plan his strike in intricate detail – effortlessly spelling doom for his chosen quarry. Although his usual arms are a flamethrower mounted under his right forearm, and a stake of an unknown adamantium alloy, his main strength is found in the witch hammer cannon, the sacred relic his mentors handed down to him. As long as he is tall, the cannon only works when Witchhammer personally interfaces with its controls, becoming one with the machine – a divine instrument of holy fury formed from the perfect blending of warrior and weapon.

Locomotive Breath

"You shall judge of a man by his foes as well as by his friends"

Martial artist
Shock trooper

One of the earlier recruits initiated by Jesus Prime into the fledgling ranks of the Archaicons, Locomotive Breath is a being dominated by his sense of honour and his strict adherence to the precepts of circuit-su and metallikato. Originally hailing from Nova Cronum, his martial pride was instilled within him almost from the day he was budded, through decades of rigorous training as part of the Inner Circle, a group of twelve soldiers designated as the personal bodyguard for the Governor of the city, who at this time was the introverted Ex Officio. Locomotive Breath excelled in this capacity, and was soon promoted to lead the Inner Circle, effectively becoming the second most powerful individual within the city-state.
During the wave of arsons known as the Days of Fire, it was Locomotive Breath who was able to track down and apprehend the arsonist, a political activist from Vos, named Red Shift, who it was feared would soon attack the Governor’s headquarters in an assassination attempt. Thinking his act of heroism would be fondly remembered, Locomotive Breath was horrified to discover that the arsonist was to be simply extradited to his home city, to take part in the war that was raging between Vos and Tarn.
Disgusted by this event, which he saw as an affront to every aspect of his martial training, he called a meeting between all of the Inner Circle bodyguards, who shared his outrage. Together, they pointed the blame for what they considered an embarrassing spectacle at Ex Officio, and stormed his personal chambers as one, presenting the Governor with an ultimatum – either stand down, or be put down. Although introverted and reclusive, Ex Officio had once been an Inner Circle guard himself, and was unable to bring himself to simply surrender to such a demand. Instead, he attacked those confronting him, slaying two before they could react. Locomotive Breath was the first to respond, grappling the raging Governor to the ground with relative ease, subduing him whilst another of the rebels beheaded him with a ceremonial blade. Holding aloft the Governor’s severed head, Locomotive Breath emerged onto the palace’s balcony, which overlooked the city centre, and announced to the crowds that his men had delivered them from failure and weakness.
However, instead of being hailed as patriots, the surviving ten members of the Inner Circle were swiftly rounded up by the armed forces, and court-martialled in what amounted to little more than a kangaroo court. By some small miracle, though, they were able to escape execution, instead being exiled forever from Nova Cronum for crimes against the state. Most of the others fled to Polyhex, Kaon and Iacon, were their warrior skills would be the most useful, but Locomotive Breath took it upon himself to leave Cybertron entirely, eventually making a living as a hired sword, his skills seeing him emerge victorious from some of the most brutal battles the galaxy has seen. As his reputation grew, word of this perfect solider – unwaveringly loyal, unflinchingly honourable, and trained in arcane martial arts – reached Jesus Prime aboard his flagship Misanthropy, who sought out the knight at once. Locomotive Breath, upon clapping eyes on Prime, recognised right away the leader he had failed to find in Ex Officio, one who knew the value of loyalty, devotion and honour. Without a second thought, Locomotive Breath pledged his allegiance to the Archaicons, eager to learn of Unicron and the teaching which had inspired such admirable qualities in his new leader, whilst Prime was keen to be trained in the ways of the martial arts which Locomotive Breath had come to master.
Locomotive Breath was to meet his end on the world of Vertox Quintus, a barren desert world, once a sprawling ecumenopolis, reduced by a global nuclear war into little more than an endless expanse of concrete dust and fallout ash. An unexplained impulse had told Jesus Prime to guide his flagship, the Misanthropy, towards the planet’s northern pole, for reasons unknown. Navigating the wreckage of an orbital dogfight, the cruiser reached its destination, finding an Autobot battalion approaching a pinned-down squad of Decepticon salvagers. Relishing the prospect of a fight, and realising that Unicron had sent him here, Prime ordered three of those on board the starship to join him in making planetfall, Locomotive Breath amongst them. The ensuing battle was fierce, and bloody, with the elite Archaicons managing to butcher a significant portion of the Autobot forces, who were surprised at the savagery of the interlopers. The beleaguered Decepticon platoon quickly joined the fray, and by the following sunrise, the Autobots had been broken, fleeing back to their base camp. Prime, seeing that over half of the squad had survived, looked around for his men, finding Locomotive Breath lifeless upon a mound of the bodies of those who had slain him. Taking the noble warrior’s body upon the Misanthropy, he imparted the wisdom of Unicron to the surviving Decepticons, who identified themselves as the squadron Gothika Mortiis, seeing in their eyes the flicker of devotion beginning to form as they were converted to worshipping the World Eater.
Locomotive Breath currently resides in the crypts of the Fortress of Solitude, his tomb the most ornate and well-tended of all of those located there, a fitting testament to the respect he was able to inspire in life, and to the legacy he has left behind him.

Abortion

"Life is but a toy, to be played with and broken."

Serial killer
Havocon soldier

Centuries ago, before either the war with Tarn or with Iacon, before the terrorist bombings of Action Vos!, the city of Vos was host to menace of a completely different kind. A spate of brutal killings had shocked the slum areas into a self-inflicted curfew, for fear of falling prey to the vicious serious killings of the Night Creeper. Seventeen women and youngsters were found dismembered and violated in the southern ghettoes before a suspect was finally apprehended and sentenced, the seemingly mild-mannered Gearshift, a mechanic from Vos’ east side. When charged with the murders, he willingly confessed, and was sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.
When the war with Iacon was entering its endgame, and Governor Shotmaker conscripted the populations of his overcrowded prisons as a last-ditch regiment to throw into the meat-grinder of war, Gearshift was among those who found himself on the front line. As was common amongst the convict regiments, Gearshift adopted a pseudonym upon being conscripted, choosing Abortion to reflect the horror of his past crimes. As a soldier, Abortion was in no way extraordinary, but the expertise he had acquired in torturing his victims proved invaluable during the interrogation of captured enemies.
Abortion survived the war, and was granted his freedom in return for his military service. However, within months of the war ending, a new wave of killings had begun to the north of Vos. None suspected Abortion initially, as the pattern which the new killer employed was in no way similar to his past murders, instead bearing more resemblance to the lynchings upon which Action Vos! would later embark. However, as months dragged by, he grew more careless in his actions, and soon reverted back to his old pattern. Before long he was caught again, and sentenced to life in gladiatorial arenas. He soon settled into his new life eagerly, and his skill as a fighter grew with each victory.
When the war with Tarn broke out, Starscream was quick to follow in his predecessor’s footsteps, and formed the Havocon Division, a regiment composed of those criminals who had been sentenced to a life of pit fighting. Abortion found himself a soldier once more, this time enjoying the thick of the fighting as well as resuming his former interrogation position. He also found a personal idol in the form of the commander of the Havocon Division, an imposing figure named Misanthropy. Abortion admired the way he could instantly disconnect from his emotions, seemingly capable of handling the consequences of any number of war crimes. When the war finished, and Misanthropy disappeared, Abortion was one of the many remaining Havocons who struggled to fill the power vacuum left behind, which was ultimately filled by the thuggish Rape. After this, Abortion seemed to lose interest in the Havocons, often striking out on his own to torture and kill any interlopers he found encroaching on Vos’ territory, always waiting for the day when Misanthropy would return to lead the Havocons and return Vos to its former glory.
Abortion’s ultimate fate was to be death at the hands of Dreadspawn, close friend to Jesus Prime the warrior who had once been Misanthropy. Abortion attempted to ambush Dreadspawn in order to usurp his position, and was gunned down in a hail of lead for his impudence. His desire to see his commander again, however, was fulfilled, as Prime stayed with the former Havocon during his last breaths, bidding farewell to the soldier he had come to see as a son.

Apostasy

“In fire, there is purity – the destruction of everything that holds us back.”

Arsonist
Havocon soldier

Arguably the most common belief amongst transformers is that of Primus and Unicron, the twin powers respectively representing birth and creation, and emptiness and destruction. The belief in Primus is to most Transformers a spiritual one, often crediting him with the creation of the transformer race, with the world eater Unicron representing the archetypal devil figure, the beguiler who promises power in exchange for service. As such, a religion of sorts has sprung up around these beliefs, having come to permeate almost every aspect of Cybertronian life.
However, not everyone accepts this status quo, and many movements have sprung up attempting to quash belief in what they see to be falsehood. Apostasy, formerly known as Red Shift, was part of one of these movements, preaching his atheism in the streets of Vos. However, Vos was never a city that was home to many believers to begin with, and Red Shift soon took to travelling the planet, determined to make a difference. Upon reaching Nova Cronum, the most introspective and condescending of cities, his brand of scepticism was met with hostility, and he was arrested several times for breaches of the peace and public disorder. His hatred for what the belief in the supernatural had done to the world grew and festered within him, eventually leading him to arson.
A wave of fire soon engulfed many of Nova Cronum’s temples, prisons, government offices and other buildings which Red Shift saw as signs of the oppression of Primus’ influence. However, catching the arsonist proved beyond the abilities of the authorities for quite some time, and many of Nova Cronum’s oldest buildings were razed to the ground, including the Fantoft Cathedral, an ancient and massive testament to the worship of the creator legend. Eventually, however, was the Vos-Tarn war was being waged on the other side of the planet, Red Shift was apprehended, and sentenced to death by the courts of Nova Cronum. Whilst awaiting his execution, however Starscream learnt of his situation, and having recently formed the Havocon Division, arranged with Ex Officio, the Governor of Nova Cronum, to have Red Shift expedited to Vos to serve in the regiment. Starscream knew he needed as many soldiers – especially bitter criminals – as possible, whilst Ex Officio was satisfied that Red Shift would soon perish in battle. The latter, however, was proven wrong, and Red Shift, having adopted the nom-de-guerre Apostasy, soon proved his worth on the battlefield.
His hatred, however, was soon projected upon his commander, the ruthlessly proficient, yet overly superstitious Misanthropy. Vowing to rise above Misanthropy through whatever means possible, Apostasy felt his dreams crushed yet vindicated when the officer left the planet after the nuclear phase of the war. Now second in command of the Havocons under Rape, he rules what is left of Vos with an iron fist, allowing his superior to sate his primal desires without worrying about day-to-day running of the city’s ashes. He still waits for Misanthropy to return, having heard whispered rumours that his former commander has sold himself to Unicron and now fights under the name Jesus Prime – his belief now being that the inevitable showdown between the two will serve as a fitting test of the existence of this so-called god, for his powers will be for naught when Apostasy slays his chosen prophet.

Holocaust

“Give me steel and courage, and I shall forge you victory.”

War criminal
Havocon soldier

Although the Havocons were conceived as a conscripted unit, several of its more prominent members were volunteers, some not even hailing from Vos originally. This is true for Holocaust, who began his military career in Polyhex, as a young soldier named Crossfire, soon rising through the ranks during a series of brutal wars of expansion. However, as his prestige grew, so did his reputation for extreme brutality. Rarely taking prisoners, Crossfire instead insisted on a policy of no mercy, only sparing the lives of the enemy when they presented a valuable resource to him. When he was presented with prisoners, however, his skill as a torturer and his interest in vivisection and experimentation on living subjects were the focus of several grisly tales. It came as no surprise that, with the end of the Polyhex Wars, the Governor of Polyhex, Straxus, felt that Crossfire would prove a threat to his power, and exiled the aspiring general to the Sonic Wastes.
Crossfire found himself harbouring no real sense of resentment towards Straxus, however, respecting what he saw as a wise tactical decision. Instead, he focussed his efforts on finding a new city to call home, seeking to regain his past standing in another army. Eventually, however, he heard rumours of brewing hostilities between Vos and Tarn, and enlisted in the relatively small standing army of Vos. His experience, coupled with Governor Starscream’s apprehension over the coming war saw him quickly rising to the rank of general once more.
When the war broke out, the units under Crossfire’s command soon proved themselves to be the most able of the entire army, a fact which soon proved their downfall, as Tarn’s significantly larger military sector brought much of its might to bear on the offending regiments, massacring them wholesale. Such crushing losses lead to Starscream forming the Havocon Division, conscripting its members from those fighting in the gladiatorial arenas. Shamed by what he saw as inexcusable defeat, Crossfire volunteered to join the regiment as a common soldier, in order to redeem his failures.
Free from the constraints of leadership, Crossfire – now using the non-de-guerre Holocaust – was able to indulge fully in his brutality, often razing entire slums in order to hear the rustle of ash in the wind. By the end of the war, he had gone missing, officially presumed dead. It was not until Jesus Prime, formerly the commander of the Havocons, returned to Vos with his ally Dreadspawn, that Holocaust was discovered once more, serving as the head of the remnants of Vos’ military under Rape’s mock government. His tenure was to finish once and for all, however, after he finally met his match in single combat with Dreadspawn, shot dead in a brutal dogfight in the skies over what was once the city centre of Vos.

Piracy

“Money is everything, the root cause of all action.”

War profiteer
Havocon soldier

There are those who treat every aspect of life as a business, and war is no exception. From arms companies reeling in defence contracts, to jewellers finding a market for jewelled bombsights, war has always been where the big money is to be found. Usually, however, the delineation between opposing sides has been a factor in the business, with no company eager to betray their nation or city. Not everyone, however, follows the same set of ethics.
Piracy, once known as Tankshock, is a prime example of such ruthlessness in business. The scion of one of the wealthiest families of Vos, Tankshock inherited his father’s factories and business at a relatively early age, and entered into the family business – arms manufacturing. Initially dealing solely in conventional arms, Shock-Corp was one of several companies supplying weaponry to both Vos’ small standing army, and to the fighters in the gladiatorial arenas. Tankshock, however, was keen to expand his company’s scope, and initiated research into nuclear weaponry. Although the results were suitably impressive, he could not convince Shotmaker, the Governor of Vos at the time, to enter into financial negotiations over them – Shotmaker simply dismissed such wantonly destructive weaponry as overkill.
War, however, was breaking out between Vos and Iacon, and Tankshock knew that if he could not find a buyer on one side, he could easily sell to the other. After several secretive negotiations with those in power in Iacon, a massive contract was agreed with Shock-Corp that would see them dealing exclusively with Iacon. Word, however, leaked out, and before the first shipment of warheads left Vos, Tankshock and his management were rounded up and given a mock trial in order to justify their execution. Whilst the arms dealers were awaiting their fate, Iacon upped its offensive against Vos, forcing Shotmaker to release Vos’ prison populations as conscripts to fight the tide of fresh invaders. Amongst those released was Tankshock, who soon adopted the name Piracy as a pseudonym, a common practice amongst the penal legion.
Not eager to fight, however, Piracy was soon declared absent-without-leave during the war. Most believed him to have gone into hiding in the hopes of rebuilding his company again, but when the Vos-Tarn war erupted centuries later; Piracy was amongst the prisoners liberated by the newly-formed Havocons from a military prison in Tarn. How he had come to be imprisoned in Tarn was not known, and Piracy was adamant that he would not reveal his story. Misanthropy, the leader of the Havocons, remembered the story of Shock-Corp, and correctly guessed that Piracy would have connections with vital rogue traders and arms dealers. With the help of several questionable deals, the Havocons found themselves one of the best-equipped units in the war, and invited Piracy to join their ranks. Keen to avoid a retrial in Vos, he accepted, and his considerable knowledge in the field of weapons technology, as well as his business-sharpened silver tongue, proved to be valuable assets in the war.
Piracy’s life after the war’s end is not documented at all, and he was long considered to have been killed in action after the bombings of Vos and Tarn. However, several sightings of him occurred during the recent incursions into the ashes of Vos, most notably by AWC officers Quantum Surge and Evolution Prime, from whom the profiteer fled frantically. The last reported sighting of Piracy described him fleeing injured with the Decepticon warrior Dreadspawn in pursuit, and as such, his ultimate fate is unknown.

Reprisal

“It is the duty of the strong to crush the weak, that society may prosper.”

Terrorist bomber
Havocon soldier

Reprisal is the youngest of the Havocon Division, a fact belied by the charming way he has with words, and his uncanny ability to sway opinion to his side. One of the founders of Action Vos!, a group declared as a terrorist organisation by most jurisdictions on Cybertron, Reprisal is a believer in the superiority of the inhabitants of Vos over other Cybertronian denominations. Shortly after its inception, he and his comrades in Action Vos! engaged on a seven month long spree of terrorism and subversion aimed at ridding the city-state of the legions of foreigners who had settled there since the arenas had been set up.
The ultimate act of this reign of terror was the bombing and destruction of the embassy for Tarn in the centre of Vos, resulting in the death of seventy-eight individuals, including Thunderblitz, the then-Governor of Tarn. Whilst the act in and of itself was secretly applauded by the Republic, the shadowy sect secretly ruling Vos through a puppet government, hysteria over its aftermath resulted in Reprisal being sentenced a life in the pits as a blood-sport gladiator. In the power vacuum after Thunderblitz’s death, Tarn’s standing army, led by the callous and brutal Shockwave, seized power in the city-state, setting up a harsh military junta fiercely opposed to Vos.
Within months of taking control of Tarn, Shockwave initiated the war between the two cities. Reprisal, like most of the criminals sentenced to a life of pit-fighting, was drafted into the Havocon Division, a squad of shock troops intended for suicide missions behind enemy lines. However, the Division’s appointed commander, Misanthropy, proved far more effective as a leader than the Republic had anticipated, and the Havocons cut a bloody swathe through the militarised border zone to which they had been assigned. Reprisal himself was instrumental in this, the skills he had learned through his bombing campaign proving their use time and again in assaults on fortified positions. However, this was all in vain, as Shockwave perceived the tides of war shifting against him, and unleashed Tarn’s nuclear arsenal in a now-familiar end to the story.
Little is known about Reprisals actions after this, save for his involvement in the continuance of the Havocon Division – now seeing themselves as the guardians of the ruins of Vos, the successors to the Republic as rules of what has become an empire of ash. What is known, however, are the circumstances of his death. Having been captured by Misanthropy, who was now known as Jesus Prime, Reprisal revealed his loyalty to lie with Rape, who had been Prime’s successor as leader of the Havocons. In response to Reprisal’s refusal to divulge Rape’s plans and whereabouts, he was summarily executed by Prime, who finally allowed his disgust at Reprisal’s terrorist past to cloud his actions.

Rape

“Pleasure is the unifying principle, to be found wherever possible.”

War criminal
Havocon commander

During the Vos-Iacon war, centuries before the conflict with tarn, defections were not altogether an uncommon occurrence. Many of the conservatively-minded inhabitants of Vos turned on their city, siding with the condescension of Iacon. However, a handful of individuals in Iacon’s standing army realised that their city-state had sent them to war in order to crush beliefs which they themselves held. The most notable of these pro-Vos defectors was an officer in the army of Iacon named Bombsight.
Bombsight was in charge of one of the first platoons dropped into the heart of Vos during the war, and it was not long before he realised that the city he was sent to destroy was in fact the city he had long been searching for – a land where his martial ability would be celebrated, not exploited. The more time he spent in the slums to the west of Vos, the more he came to despise those who had commanded him to slaughter their inhabitants – and those who he had been appointed to lead. After witnessing an illegal, but thrilling, street fight between two former gladiators, Bombsight realised his true calling. Adopting the nom-de-guerre of Rape, after the atrocities he knew he was ready to commit, he returned to his platoon’s base camp and slaughtered all of his subordinates in a single night, violating each and every one of them in their death throes. In this river of gore, a new warrior was born, one who pledged his eternal allegiance to Vos, city of soldiers and home to hostility.
Joining Governor Shotmaker’s prisoner legion, Rape realised the full extent of sadism he was able to unleash upon the enemy. His unadulterated butchery and perversion upon the field of battle earned him the dubious honour of being the only participant of the war to be excluded from the amnesty which Shotmaker offered to the criminal legion upon Iacon’s withdrawal. His savagery was enough to cause the Governor to cast him straight into a life of violence in the gladiatorial arenas, a chance for carnage which Rape relished.
An eternity of structured brutality awaited the former sergeant of Iacon, and his prowess in the arena soon led the popular belief that he was invincible, unable to be harmed by mere pit fighters.
When the Vos-Tarn war erupted, Rape was among the first convicts drafted by Starscream into the Havocon Division, the conscripted army of criminals and pit fighters which formed the core of Vos’ infantry. Under the command of their leader, Misanthropy, the Havocons were able to inflict serious damage upon the military structure of Tarn, crippling the militarised zone the city-state had installed across the border region. When nuclear holocaust drew the war to a savage close, Rape was among those Havocons who refused to accept defeat. Initially offering to accompany his commander Misanthropy into space to seek for possible allies in the war, Rape was instead appointed by the tacit officer as his replacement in the command position.
Under Rape’s leadership, the Havocon Division secured the perimeters of the bombed-out Vos, establishing an empire of ash which few dared to disturb. In the first few years of this pathetic kingdom, ramshackle monuments were erected to both Misanthropy, and Rape himself, constructed from scrap metal and the remnants of the statues which had previously marked every junction of the city’s streets. To this day, Rape spends his time patrolling the shattered streets between these new effigies, waiting eagerly for his old commander to return, that he may issue a challenge to the brooding warrior in order to establish once and for all the true ruler of post-war Vos. Rape was to finally get this chance when Misanthropy, now reformatted by Unicron into Jesus Prime, infiltrated Vos in order to retrieve the Craoí Dubh Engine, a powerful artefact which Rape possessed. In the shadow of the mausoleum of Tertius, the founder of the city, Rape was finally bested in single combat by Prime, his upper torso cleaved from the lower half of his body by the formidable warrior’s heavy bonesword. Rape’s legacy, however, lives on, and he shall forever be remembered as the tyrant of Vos, a vicious dictator who formed an empire from the ashes of conflict.

Fuhrerprinzip

“Victory is not won, but given freely to those destined to take it.”

Gestalt warrior
Dictator of Schlachthoft-Funf

The entity known as Fuhrerprinzip has its origins woven inextricably with those of the five soldiers known collectively as the Reich. Long before the Great War began, in the days of Vos and Tarn’s mutual destruction, of the aggressive expansion of the Polyhex Wars, of Nova Cronum’s terror-filled Days of Fire, the Reich was a political party existing in the polar city-state of Kaon. Preaching a litany of hate and fascistic totalitarianism, they were soon able to draw a large following in the city.
Although militaristic in nature, the party boasted of a varied membership, drawing their ranks from all walks of life in Kaon. Led by the political genius mind of the former officer Volkssturm, the rest of the Reich consisted of Zyklon B, an ill-regarded weapons scientist who had contributed to Iacon’s feared Red Beard atomic bomb project; Aktion T4, the controversial medical official who had been forbidden from practicing in his home of Nova Cronum; the aggressive and boorish career criminal Kristallnacht; and the shock-journalist Reichstag, who soon turned his hand to propaganda.
In spite of, or perhaps entirely owing to, their rapidly-growing popularity, the Reich soon invoked the ire of the city’s authorities, who were becoming increasingly fearful of a coup attempt. The five members of the Reich were swiftly rounded up, and exiled from Kaon after a show trial. Disgusted with how they perceived Cybertronian governance, the Reich commandeered a starship and left the planet, plotting a course for a distant, but inhabited, world, in order to continue their ideals and plans.
What the Reich were to find was the planet of Schlachthoft-Funf, a struggling planet which had been spending the past few decades attempting to recover from a crippling global war. Its human inhabitants were striving to return their world to normalcy despite massive industrial and ecological damage, spiralling hyperinflation and shattered infrastructures. Instantly recognising their potential for dominance, the Reich immediately began restoring the planet, building new hospitals and schools to replace those torn down in the war, taking control of the planet’s finances in order to solve the problem of inflation, and finding a use for everyone in order to get the economy back to its pre-war standard. Within two years, the entire world had been returned to its former splendour, and the members of the Reich were hailed as its saviours. However, it was at this time that they chose to declare themselves planetary rulers – a move to which few objected. Life on Schlachthoft-Funf was soon drastically different, with almost every possible industry and outlet turned towards preparing for war. Although it was not clear to the people at the time, the Reich had begun their campaign to claim Cybertron for themselves.
It was around this time that Zyklon B turned his attention momentarily from weapons research and towards something more pressing. Having caught wind from sympathisers still on Cybertron of a new process developed by several groups known as ‘mass intellect’, and the subsequent creation of gestalt warriors. Gathering what information he could from this contact, Zyklon B was able to replicate the procedure, and even to improve upon it. Whereas other combiner groups had attempted to merge their consciousnesses into one new mind via the mass intellect procedure, the members of the Reich unanimously agreed that when in their combined form, only the mind of their leader, Volkssturm, should be active, the others contributing nothing more to the merge on a mental level, other than their shared memories and knowledge. As such, a new and vastly superior breed of gestalt was born, dubbed Fuhrerprinzip.
From then on, the members of the Reich were rarely seen on their own, unless any individual had their own pressing matters to attend to – the ruling of the planet was done by Fuhrerprinzip, whose vast size and sheer power was enough to dissuade any attempts at overthrowing his increasingly harsh rule. Life continued this way on Schlachthoft-Funf for centuries, each generation born simply to serve the Reich and its gargantuan embodiment. The stockpiles of weaponry and starships being amassed on the planet continued to grow to inordinate levels, though it would still be a long time before Fuhrerprinzip would be able to mount an attack on Cybertron, which had by now erupted with the fires of the conflict which would come to be known as the Great War.
However, resentment of Fuhrerprinzip was a common sentiment, and every day on the planet, subversives and traitors were tried and executed for even the slightest infraction. Despite this, though, one group was finally able to capture an interstellar transmitter, and beam an urgent message to Cybertron, telling both Autobot and Decepticon alike of the Reich, of Fuhrerprinzip, and of life on Schlachthoft-Funf. However, given the lack of any factional allegiance showed by the Reich, opinion was greatly divided on both sides as to what to do. Soon, individual units and war-bands began flocking to the planet, some keen to aid the Reich in displaying the dominance of Cybertronian life, others eager to topple their fascistic rule once and for all. The coming war would see Autobot fighting Autobot, and Decepticon fighting Decepticon, and only one outcome was foreseeable – death, on a hitherto unseen scale.

Overview

The home of order and justice, the birthplace of righteousness, land of a thousand freedoms - this is how Iacon has sought to project itself. History, however, does not see it entirely in such a shining light – the story of Iacon is one of repression and bitterness as much as it is of heroism and virtue. What is true, however, and irrefutably so, is that Iacon is the birthplace of the Autobots, one of the main forces in what was to become known as the Great War. Iacon’s history is longer than that of the Autobots, however, and the Iacon of today is not how the city has always been.
Today, Iacon stands a testament to endeavours of the Autobot forces, its scarred streets lined with memorial statues and the mausoleums of its greatest heroes. Barracks and military academies vie for space in the centre of the city, each proudly bearing the name of an Autobot warrior of legend. Housed deep underground below the city’s streets, a secretive chamber sits undisturbed, holding within its walls the Matrix Flame, a mystical fire which burns with the life force of the current Matrix bearer. Iacon’s low skyline is interrupted here and there by the barrels of vast artillery batteries, whose occasional thunderous roars light the city with glorious muzzle fire. Thick, acrid smoke churns from manufacturing works on the outskirts of the city, where munitions and materiel are produced at staggering rates for the benefit of the Autobot forces – in fact, a common saying in the city states that “the smoke of factories is the breath of Iacon”. There are none who could even consider doubting Iacon’s allegiance, nor its unwavering devotion, in the Great War.
What is free to doubt, however, is the flawless light in which many Autobot recruits will paint their hallowed city. Much as the people of Vos will neglect to tell of its savage pit fighting, or the inhabitants of Polyhex play down the belligerence of the Polyhex Wars, those hailing from Iacon will unfalteringly overlook the overbearing and aggressive stance which their city has held for millennia. They will talk of the glorious victory over Polyhex which brought that city’s indefatigable expansion to a halt, or speak of the order and peace which their fabled Governor Fracturepoint brought to Cybertron with the creation of the Iacon Accords. Glorious victories over the Decepticons are the topics of everyday conversation, whilst the presence of towering idols dedicated to figures such as Sentinel Prime, Alpha Trion or Fracturepoint are a pervasive reminder to Iacon’s citizens as to which side they are on in this war. What is almost always left out of the lexicon of Iacon’s citizenry are its darker periods, which often overshadow and outweigh its glories.
Talk of Iacon’s grand plans for a benevolent empire will never mention the hundreds of thousands killed on both sides in the bitter struggle to retain hold of Hibernium, Iacon’s last remaining imperial possession, nor do they mention the horrific treatment of the people of Hibernium or those who seek to liberate it – summary execution of civilian women and children, political prisoners dying in fuel strikes, false-flag bombings used to provide false justification for shelling residential slums. Tales of Iacon’s contributions to science and security throughout history will never take a second to address the Red Beard Project, which created some of the most devastating and dangerous weapons ever known to Cybertron – many of which were later proliferated to other cities and radical groups, at a profit to the government of Iacon. No, these chapters of history exist only in the minds of outsiders, those strangers from other lands who would dare to doubt the purity of the last bastion of peace on the planet. This is Iacon. Land of a thousand freedoms.

Vos-Iacon War

Possibly one of the more polarising chapters in Iacon’s history is the war with the city-state of Vos. To those from Iacon, it was a justified invasion seeking to stamp out the savage and barbaric practices of the gladiatorial city-state; to those from Vos, it was an unwarranted act of genocide and ethnic cleansing from a domineering and hegemonic force; and to those on the outside, it was simply one of the bloodiest and most brutal conflicts Cybertron had seen at that time.
The casus belli for the war itself originates long before the actual hostilities, during the proliferation and rise in popularity of the fighting arenas in Vos. Whilst the Governor of Vos, the charismatic Shotmaker, fully endorsed the fights as a means of entertainment and of showcasing the best Vos had to offer, the Governor of Iacon at the time, Fracturepoint, did not see eye to eye, finding the practice abhorrent and offensive. At first, the antagonism was confined to petty bureaucratic squabbling and sternly-worded political addresses. Eventually, though, the resentment both states harboured towards the other grew to encompass commerce and immigration, with mutual trade embargos set in place, and a uniform denial of the movement of individuals from Vos to Iacon, and vice versa. Iacon’s border patrols even adopted a shoot-to-kill policy on all refugees and immigrants suspected of coming from Vos. After a few months, it seemed that this status quo would remain, with both sides locked in a sort of ‘cold’ war. However, when a foiled arson attempt on Belligerum, the largest of Vos’ arenas, was traced back to a covert operations unit of Iacon’s military, Vos declared war on the polar city in full.
Initially, the war went in Vos’ favour, as their neighbouring city of Tarn, which at the time boasted the most advanced military on Cybertron, lent its full support, providing munitions, logistics and training to Vos. However, a late decision by Thunderblitz, the Governor of Tarn, to withdraw its support for fear of sparking a global conflict, saw the tides of war shift in favour of Iacon. Without the need to defend themselves from the incessant air-strikes and ballistic missiles, Iacon was able to launch an all-out offensive, pushing the forces of Vos out of the city. Once Iacon itself was secured again, the invasion of Vos began in full. Within days, vast swathes of Vos’ residential and financial districts had been captured, and annexed as exclaves of Iacon. Summary executions and public torture were used to quell the newly captured areas, and soon the entirety of Vos seemed threatened.
It was at this time that Shotmaker was enacting his last desperate gambit – opening up the prisons of Vos in order to conscript an army of violent criminals. This penal legion was to prove Iacon’s downfall, the brutality and discipline which a long life of savage prison hierarchy had instilled within them making them more effective than any soldier. Within two months, the massive gains Iacon had made were almost entirely reclaimed by Vos, and the mounting casualties on both sides forced Fracturepoint to order a full withdrawal. Vos had defended its arena culture, at a huge price – and Iacon felt nothing but hatred and bitterness. Countless numbers of its best soldiers had perished, believing their sacrifice would help to rid Cybertron of a practive they found to be repugnant, and all in vain. From that day until the eventual fall of Vos, neither city ever opened up trade or international relations again, often denying the right of the other to even exist as a functioning entity.

Hibernium

Iacon has always harboured aspirations of becoming a vast empire, and in the centuries leading up to the so-called Golden Age, when borders were fluid and territories changed hands monthly in bitter struggles for expansion, the Autobot homeland was able to claim a possession to which it still clings today, the neighbouring city-state of Hibernium.
Hibernium had long been a city of superstition and poetry, of self-reliance and tradition – and as such, had felt no desire to involve itself in the geo-political squabbling which was engulfing Cybertron. For centuries, it had simply been left in peace, its neutrality never being called into question or abused. Several of the larger city-states even maintained important trade agreements with it, considering the energon it produced to be amongst the purest on the planet. Iacon, however, saw this precious city as a jewel to be added to its crown, and sought to find a pretext for invasion. A false-flag bombing was planned, with several slum areas on the outskirts of Iacon attacked, killing scores of civilians, with the bombings being made to appear as though they had been perpetrated by individuals from Hibernium. With a pretext obtained, Iacon mobilised its forces, and prepared to invade. The modest standing army of Hibernium was no match for Iacon’s structured and disciplined forces, and the city-state fell in a matter of days, officially declared as a part of Iacon.
This was not the end of the matter, however – Iacon had made the mistake of confusing neutrality with pacifism, fully expecting to be able to assimilate Hibernium with little to no hassle. What they were to find instead was a populace to whom the notion of foreign rule was one worse than death, a nation to whom freedom ranked higher than life itself. The initial invading forces soon found themselves under threat from scores of resistance cells working independently of each other, bands of urban guerrillas seeking to reclaim their homeland. Casualties were high for the invaders, who were forced to send for inordinate numbers of reinforcements. In the meantime, though, the resistance fighters used the time they had bought to organise themselves, forming a network of highly organised freedom fighters.
Hoping to deter the patriotic sentiment off of which this network was feeding, Fracturepoint issued a number of laws forbidding most of the traditional practices of Hibernium, outlawing its native language, among other cultural and traditional practices – new laws which were enforced with the death penalty. The effect of these decrees, however, was merely to galvanise opposition to the rule of Iacon, rather than easing the process of assimilation which was hoped for by Fracturepoint. Vast numbers of the terror cell’s operatives began to adopt words from their prohibited language as a nom-de-guerre, with the more notable examples being the assassins Eagla and Scéin, and the fuel-striker Na hOcras.
The fuel strikes themselves signalled the beginning of a new phase in this chapter of Iacon’s history, the start of Hibernium’s attempts to involve the outside world in their struggle for freedom. Although Cybertronian law granted certain amnesties and privileges to prisoners declared as ‘special category’, including political prisoners, Iacon systematically denied this designation to those prisoners belonging to the Hibernium resistance. In protest, a young and charismatic member of the resistance, using the pseudonym Na hOcras, organised what was to be the first of many fuel strikes, which saw the political prisoners refusing their daily fuel rations in defiance of their treatment, and that of their people. Though initially stifled and dealt with through forced refuelling, the fourth of these fuel strikes was to spark international interest. Cybertron had finally overcome the ravages of the Vos-Tarn war, and many now turned their eyes to Iacon in search of prosperity and peace – instead finding brutality and subjugation. With global attention focussed on their prisons, Iacon could no longer force the striking prisoners to refuel, and had to sit and watch as the dying revolutionaries undermined the international standing of the proud city-state. Eventually, as several of the strikers died, and emotions across the planet were turning against Iacon, the decision was made to remove the sparks of the surviving strikers, and hold them in stasis independent of their bodies. Four prisoners were held captive in this manner, Na hOcras included.
In Hibernium, their names became the stuff of legend, and many attempts at freeing the “Fuel-Strike Four” were enacted, all but one of which were unsuccessful – the last such attempt being undertaken by two unidentified figures, and having successfully liberated Na hOcras. In Hibernium, it is hoped that he shall return to lead a renewed bid for independence, whilst Iacon has despatched several Autobot units to recover the fugitive, fearing that he may seek to bring the Decepticons to Hibernium in order to ally with them against Iacon.

The Battle of Iacon

Iacon is fondly regarded by many, even those outside of the Autobot ranks, for its involvement in the later stages of the Polyhex Wars, the brutal wars of expansion waged by Straxus in a bid to turn his city-state into a dominant power on Cybertron. Vast territorial gains had been made, wiping several burgeoning city-states right off of the map, before the armies of Polyhex turned their attention to Iacon, believing it to be of vital strategic importance. Long-range ballistic missiles and devastating air-strikes were used to target Iacon’s military installations, in a bid to crush their ability to defend themselves against a ground assault. However, Straxus vastly underestimated the ability of Iacon’s military to adapt to any situation, and the forces of Polyhex were caught completely unaware when the ground forces they had expected to have routed instead took to the air, using both aerial alternate modes and advanced fighter jets previously purchased from Tarn’s technologically superior military. It soon became clear to Straxus that this war would be fought in the skies, not on the ground.
Fracturepoint, then an officer in the military, not yet Governor of the city-state, knew that his only hope in defeating the endless armies of Polyhex lay in capitalising on this early victory. Mobilising as many aerial units as he could, he prepared to make an incursion deep into enemy territory, rationalising that if he could destroy the fortress of Darkmount, the citadel which housed the Governor’s headquarters, the resulting power vacuum arising from the death of Straxus would cause the army to collapse into squabbling factions vying for control of the city-state, allowing the remnants of his ground forces to mop up any troops remaining in Iacon.
The raid, however, did not go as was planned, and both Darkmount and Straxus survived – the majority of Fracturepoint’s air force was shot down by the vast encampment of ground troops deployed at the border of Polyhex. The incursive forces were able to salvage the situation somewhat, many of the fallen units deliberately crash landing in the midst of the encamped army, proving more lethal in death than they had in life. By the time Fracturepoint had ordered a retreat, casualties on both sides were cripplingly high. Straxus ordered his men to reclaim the skies, knowing that once the aerial forces under Fracturepoint’s command were eliminated, he would be free to invade Iacon and bring the war to a swift and brutal end. Any of Polyhex’s forces fighting on other fronts were swiftly recalled and redeployed against Iacon, effectively bringing the vast majority of the Polyhex Wars to a close.
The following period of the war was fought almost exclusively through intermittent dogfights, becoming little more than a long series of skirmishes, a war of attrition geared towards negating the other side’s capability to wage war in the sky. This period of slow progress – mockingly dubbed the “Battle of Iacon” by the inhabitants of that city-state – was slowly beginning to tip in Polyhex’s favour, with Fracturepoint barely able to command a dozen units to contend with the invaders. Iacon’s salvation was soon to come, though, from the most unlikely of places. A group of Straxus’ underlings, unhappy with the sluggish pace of the war, had attempted to overthrow the brutal warlord, and died trying. Fracturepoint saw an opening, however, and used the confusion to convince Straxus to negotiate an end to the war. Straxus, fearful for more attempts on his life, agreed, asking only that Iacon cede the secrets of the Red Beard atomic bomb project to Polyhex, a condition which later led to the proliferation of the atomic bomb across Cybertron. However, the Iacon Accords which were signed shortly after the Battle of Iacon, masterminded by Fracturepoint, were to contain specific clauses about the use of atomic weaponry against Iacon, or its allies. In all, the relative success of Fracturepoint’s ventures in the conflict was to result in him becoming a public hero in his home, and soon lead to his election as Governor.
