NEUTRIZOR has sent us an e-mail regarding an auction for a rare Japanese exclusive release of the Generation 1 Ultra Magnus mold. This variation is called "Shining Magnus", or sometimes "Matrix Glow Magnus" and is based on how Ultra Magnus appeared on screen during the Transformers: The Movie when he received the Matrix. While in the movie that was just a lighting effect and not an actual change in colour Ultra Magnus got repainted by Takara anyway.
The figure comes in a light yellow plastic, yellow paint and translucent yellow plastic and is limited to just 800 figures worldwide.

I would actually really like to own this figure, but I'm never going to find one in my price range. I paid enough for the Diaclone colored version. I still don't understand why he's yellow, when anytime I've watched TF: The Movie, when he catches the Matrix, he's bathed in BLUE light. and now that I go back and check, it was Hot Rod that was bathed in blue light, not Magnus.... This figure doesn't make SENSE!!!!!! Why do I want it????? :BANG_HEAD:

When in the movie did he look like this? I don't recall any such lighting effect done in the film that made him look all yellow.

The only part in the movie were magnus is yellowish is when he explodes on Junkion after being destroyed by the Sweeps. Even then, that's more orange ;-)

Perhaps this 'Shining Yellow' Magnus was off camera, on a storyboard, or never made it past the cutting room floor.

Or the fact that Magnus was blue to begin with.

But yes, it's either yellow, white or blue-ish.

LOL, if it makes you feel any better, I like this Shiny Ultra Magnus too. I would love to own one, but there is no way I have the money for one. Alas, the markup for a transulecent plastic exclusive is very high.

I've wanted this figure for ages. I'm not entirely in love with the clear plastic, but people. People. YELLOW OPTIMUS PRIME! It'd look great with my Ehobby Diaclone colours Magnus, Pepsi Convoy and my G1 Primes. =P~
