I work in the bulk department where I load and offload trucks and railcars with (literally) tonnes of chemicals. We also do quite a lot of blending (mainly in the production department), but bulk handles airplane deicer and (I actually) make one of the components for spray foam insulation for a local company.
Before that, I worked in a drywall warehouse building orders and forklifting, and before that i worked pretty much from 14-21 in restaurants.
That's nice, but very inaccurate. Engineers go to school. I've had none.duragrip wrote:I'd call you a chemical engineer.shajaki wrote:My "job title" Warehouseman. Uuuhhhhh.... I can get the job done, but I don't go to the gym or anything if that's what yo mean.duragrip wrote:Are you strong and muscular Shajaki? I could not do such hard work. I' m too weak.
I suppose what would happen at any job if you couldn't perform it?duragrip wrote:How do lift those heavy boxes, and buckets of chemicals? What if you're not strong enough?
duragrip wrote:I got hired at the Coffee Bean. I quit after two days because I could not remember how to make all those drinks. They don't have it written down. You have to remember how to do it in your head.

Taking it that seriously only makes it worse. You have to be able to laugh at sexism, racism, and whatnot. Otherwise, you let that attitude win. You give it all the power.
You can't walk through life on your tippy toes, desperately afraid of offending people. If you do, you might as well move back home and lock yourself in the basement.

Taking sexism seriously doesn't make it worse. It just makes you look like a jerk in retrospect.
Fear is not at play here. Sensitivity and awareness, however, is.

Yes, the happily married man, raised by a single mother for most of my childhood, is a sexist jerk. Trust me, telling people "don't say this and don't do that" only makes the problem worse. You need to learn to laugh at life, or it will destroy you.

I said it makes you look like a jerk. I don't know you, or how you were raised, or what your life situation is. And that's half the point - it doesn't matter. The internet is largely anonymous, and falling back on your life story after the fact doesn't make it OK.
Laugh at life, sure. But you have to find the right things to laugh at.
