You're too hung up on G1. You assume he has to be called one thing, you assume he has to be one way, you assume characters have to transform into the same exact things.
Dark Zarak, you seem like a swift guy with lots of good ideas, and I agree with most things you say, but I can't seem to understand this one thing that keeps coming back to me...
You say that we shouldn't be "hung up" on G1 and that it has no bearings on character traits and personality, but then you've voiced your dislike for Arcee, saying she is not one of the "classic" characters, but by saying that you yourself are using G1 as a basis for your argument.
I do agree with you when you say that the movie is a "big deal" and that the classic characters should be able to shine again. And you're right, as much as I've grown tired of Ultra Magnus and the Constructicons, I see why they would be appropriate for the movie series. But to include only the "classic" characters is wrong in my opinion.
The first film was full of obscure and new characters (take Bonecrusher, a new fan favourite, and basically a new character with a classic name). You need a mix of both classic and obscure to keep things fresh. I understand you think the idea of a pink motorbike TF is stupid, but alot of people (myself included) think it's a great, fresh idea. I don't want the entire autobot cast to be cars and trucks... if you use your idea of the movie as a "big deal" with classic characters, then can't we have characters who are representative of a group of TFs? Can't Arcee be representative of both female TFs and bike TFs, assuring that the long history of bike and fembot TFs are, in one way or another, included in the "big deal" that is the movie? And if you prefer the classic characters, just have Arcee stand on the sideline like Ratchet or Jazz did in movie #1. Or have her die.
Don't get me wrong, I do agree with just about everything you've had to say, and I like your idea for the dinobot and I'm not trying to be mean in anyway. But you can't tell people to stop being hung up on G1, while disregarding obscure characters in favour of the classic characters who are only "classics" because of G1.
If every movie only includes the classic characters, we'll never be able to move forward and have new classics.
