Seen the trailer, not interested. This isn't Star Trek to me. It looks more like a random sci-fi action film with a star trek theme.

aye the trailers bad but that's not to say that the film will be! + we cannot really gauge properly until we see the film.

on the subject of whether Star Trek & Star Wars exist in the same universe......
https://thedissolve.com/news/412-coolne ... kness-cam/
Cameo, Nod, Easter Egg regardless! the fact of the matter is that R2 still EXISTS in that universe! so an argument could then be made as to whether Star Trek & Star Wars share the same universe? & if so.....does this then mean that we could possibly see a Star Trek Nod, Cameo(btw we already are...with Simon Pegg...granted that he's playing another character), Easter Egg in The Force Awakens?(apart from Pegg that is).

"the fact of the matter is that R2 still EXISTS in that universe!"
sorry, its not exactly a "fact" that the character of R2D2 as we know him exists in the trek universe
btw, r2 also had a cameo in the first of jj's trek films
1 more thing, if they did exist in the same universe, time travel would be needed for a cross over

Re: Star Trek: The Next Thread
So lets say you had a Star Trek Universe where the writers think that what they have done (from their perspective) is go back to the original series and put aside the diplomacy and politics of TNG & the Movies to return it to the source.
Let give them the benefit of the doubt over that for the moment, have they succeeded at all in anyway ?
Or missed the point entirely ? If yes or if no what about the new one so far ?

so the question is, has the new team ,succeeded at all in anyway ,in returning star trek to its source'?
yes indeed they have, in many ways as your vid shows.
and yes, missed the point entirely as well.............or at least the point of what Rodenberry wanted the series to bbe
The original star trek was never what he wanted it to be.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Thread
I'm one of the few people who actually likes Star Trek : The Next Generation it sometimes seems - and that was supposed to be "Closer To Gene's Vision".
Though you know that Guy they thawed out who helped Picard with some Rumulans as at that time they showed Picard as a bit to trusting and Gullible (later too if you remember the Vulcan defector/fake Romulan they gave a lift home).
Anyway I sometimes wonder if the writers were mocking the show's Producers and they didn't even notice - that episode for one and also the one Wesley gets sentenced to death.

yes, TNG was mmuch more like wshat GR wanted.
but may i ask why you say "you are one of the few people who actually likes TNG"?
its been my experience that TNG may be be the fav of the over all fandom
in regularly ties if not beats tos in many fan fav polls

Sorry about that - I stopped in the middle of writing to answer the phone and didn't finish the sentence properly when I came back it was supposed to say that "Season one" of TNG was closer to Genes vision and that I was seemingly unusual for liking Season One - it's Season 4 & 6 I personally like least.
Sorry about that and any confusion I accidentally caused there.
***
Thinking about the idea of Judging a Movie by the Trailer - there has been some example over recent times of very misleading trailers - like for example Phantom Menace looks "Exciting" & it's actually slow and about politics for the most part. Or The Force Awakens Seems Dark and mature and it's actually well the words "fluffy" or 'Jovial' springs to mind. essentially it;s 85% Episode IV and 15% Episode V - and yet they advertised it as the reverse.
Simon Pegg has both complained (supposedly) about being asked to dumb down the script - but has also said Star trek Beyond is not fairly represented by the trailer and considering how often that is the case I can't disbelieve him... but then other times the Trailer is dead accurate and is actually like a visual synopsis - so hopefully that isn't the case this time and that there will be more to Star Trek : Beyond - I notice that some people have also said that Batman Vs Superman is supposed to make some people cry - and yet I can't see why from the trailers - so perhaps that is a Movie that isn't showing something about it's true tone in the trailers either.
I doubt it's "all a dream" though unlike Batman Vs Superman & The Force awakens Trailers which seem to be just that (quite a few Terminator Trailers to use the dream sequences a lot also I suppose).
That said every Transformers Movie that comes out is marketed as being more mature and they never are... I suspect they only say that because they hope they can mislead the doubtful into coming to it and also try to reassure those how don't like the idea of it being a toy Movie for the kids.
I think the idea in CBS/Paramount's mind is to appeal to the NEW Fans of the Movie Franchise those who didn't like TNG or never watched Star Trek at all - I think that may be a mistake though as the newbie may not stick around forever - and that may be true of Star Wars too...
Some would say Marvel Movie are mad for such people - but I'm not so sure about that despite their reputation for brainlessness - I would hate to see it as becoming common opinion that Star trek Movie since 2009 are just action fodder with little or no thought given to them - that would be a big shame.
If you go to mass market I think eventually it all falls flat on it's face like happened with Robocop or Alien Movies. Ultimately Prometheus would be a lot more loved and sell a lot more Discs going forwards if they'd not dumbed it down at the last minute - so I hope Star Trek Beyond hasn't been wrecked by studio interference.

Anyone watch those Star Trek fan series like Continues & New Voyages? coz the look of them & fx are as good if not better than TOS! the banks of monitors ect on the bridge of the Enterprise on New Voyages are all working! not static like in TOS! also the fx are better even more so than the remastered TOS version!
one thing! it's weird how there's no fan series for the period during the movies that featured the original cast? i would've liked to have seen something like that! especially today seeing how far those fan series have come in terms of practical sets & fx.

Axalon I like so far the Pike one I'm pretty sceptical about.
Renegades isn't that great.
Phase II has money troubles but they say they are doing some more eps this year.

Re: Star Trek: The Next Thread
I think it's supposed to - it's a much older ship (20 year or more) putting it a few decades after the NX-01 it also seems to be very small - so likely is quite short range and slow (well it would be if there was any consistency in Starship speeds in the Movies).
I find it interesting though as we don't often see very small Starships - this ship is really small even compared to the Equinox it's small. It looks like it has one deck for crew and may not even have a secondary Hull at all unless it's a very small one with just enough space for a warp core and the deflector.
If it even has those as the Miranda Class USS Reliant barely has space for either of those in it's design either.
[I say that as it is sitting on a planet surface in the trailer judging by the interior shots] But yes the shape similarity to the NX-01 and the look of the engines and so on is all seemingly intentional to make it look old. As it's a vessel that pre-dates the USS Kelvin incident so is more in style with the Archer era.
