IMO it boils down to this,Goo Goo Dolls and Spike running around in a Strokes t-shirt. Judging from that ,things do not bode well for the soundtrack.

I had some trouble getting it to play so I isolated the URL to the RM file and downloaded that. Once saved on my desktop it played on RealPlayer without any hassles. Here's the link:
http://www.alternativeaddiction.net/realaudio/top20singles/Goo%20Goo%20Dolls%20-%20Fiction%20(Before%20It's%20Too%20Late).rm
As for the song, I think it's a heartwarming ballad that expresses the feelings that Sam has for Bumblebee. The intro lyrics about "the truth buried beneath all the lies" refers to the Sector Seven coverup conspiracy. The "Don't fall, just bee who you are" lyric is Sam telling Bumblebee to hang in there after he gets all beat up and don't spend too much time in car mode.

As I suspected, the song is pretty bad.
It's boring and sounds like any other song out there today. I would love to see some Stan Bush on there, or even some other mondern rockers (maybe Wolfmother?). We need a rockin' soundtrack for this film, not some watered-down, emo-isque, boring crap!

This song is underwhelming. Nothing memorable in the lyrics and the music is... bad. I am hoping that the other offerings to be had from the movie are much, much better.

Boring. Generic. Simple Minds could do a more interesting pop ballad than that. Everloving U2 could do a better pop ballad. It's not like the Goo Goo Dolls are even relevant anymore.

Look, if musics good, it's good reguardless of genra! But I been hearing some crap song lately about an umbrela and I swear, they ran out of words about a third of the way through that song. And yes that deserves to be mocked along with all the other tunes that fall into that collective "I love you more than my Peeps.." WHat the hell is that!?!
Right and the lyrical content of "good" metal is any better. Whatever the genre, you're really blowing hot air about mental chewing gum. Maybe metal's got a bit of bitter taste to it, but it's just chaw, hoss.
Now I also agree that a Pure Metal SoundTrack sadly just wouldn't work, but something with an edge would be nice, someone mentioned PowerMan 5000, maybe some Sound of Urchin, Get One True Thing for the romance end, Give DragonForce a montage, and let KMFDM round off the score with Cubanate.
And you've recreated a 13 year old boy's basement, and again limited the demographic appeal this film's merchandising is going to reach for with a soundtrack (the "boy" demo is already served by toys, and whatnot, this soundtrack needs to reach something broader to justify its existence). PM5K's too cartoonishly flash gordon, good for a "remix" of the animated one, but not for this (which while being about giant robots, is striving to treat them somewhat "seriously").
And also my friend, all the example bands you mentioned, not only still record but they also tour every summer! Check your facts.
So doesn't Cindi Lauper.... Calling all those bands "active" puts them in what I call the "Aerosmith category" of album production. See, I think sometime around when Aerosmith had pretty much migrated from hard rock to something more like pop rock, when they had all those videos with Alicia Silverstone, Aerosmith actually stopped recording. Rather, everything they had ever played in a studio was loaded into a database, and now whenever Steve Tyler and Joe Perry are short on cash, they "just put play" and their computer produces a "new" Aerosmith album. Most classic metal is pretty much played out in a similar fashion. To know classic metal is done by listening to the stuff produced in the 80s ... to keep buying their product is just fanboydom.
Finally I don't know if anyone should be worked up by the pop soundtrack at all. Generally in contemporary films, with great exception, the score soundtrack drives the film, particularly the action. Rarely does the pop music supplement play a major role in the movie, it's just a way to sell records and grant artist exposure by bundling the music into a disc with an image from the movie poster on the cover.
For what it's worth I think all this metal posturing makes everyone sound like pussies who want to be bad, Japanese art noise music, like Merzbow, would rock for mind blowinglly alien machines blowing each other away, and would teach the metal posers what real chaos is. Hmmm, another mashup idea for when this film's DVD comes out.

Agreed. No wuss rock, no retarded thug metal either. Just a great score comprised of orchestral symphonies laid over industrial beats and guitars.
I think the only conventional "songs" heard in the movie should be either coming from Bumblebee or just overheard in the settings.Apex Convoy wrote: The music from the trailer sounded badass
If you mean the 300 trailer, that was an instrumental called "Just Like You Imagined" by Nine Inch Nails, a great example of moving music with some weight to it.
I was actually talking about the music from the Transformers trailer, but I also love that song. I was sad that it wasn't on the official soundtrack for 300, so I just downloaded it. I think that kind of sound would be great for this movie.

It's not playing, because I don't watn Real Player.
Seriously, I thought that Real Player went out of style years ago.
Also, ****' Metal? Get real. Like you'll ever hear bands no one's ever heard of in a summer blockbuster. And before you give me that bullshit about how they're popular: they are not. Hence why you only hear them in horror movies, and C-Grade Action flicks, where no one gives a ****.

lol. Not by a long shot. I don't like all their songs. Just a few that I recall from when I was little. Its more nastalgia, but I really do like this song.
I think if people stand away from it as a TF sing and listen to it as just a love ballad it's really nice.

I don't like it.
It has nothing to do with it being part of the TF movie soundtrack.
It has nothing to do with wanting a Metal soundtrack (I'm not all that impressed with Metal anyway...)
It has everything to do with the fact that the Goo Goo Dolls are quite capable as a band (not to mention talented) and this just isn't one of their best songs. Hell, it's not even one of their good ones.
It's recycled pop. Overused, and just kinda "ehh" sounding.

Answer me a couple of questions.
1 - Do you know how much involvement Bay has in the actual making of the soundtrack?
2 - How do you know the soundtrack is lame when you've only heard one song?
1. We have to have a fall guy for our grievances. Bay is that fall guy. The buck stops with the PRODUCER/DIRECTOR.
2. No I have heard four so far. Only 2/4 are worth anything. Two are orchestral, and they are awesome, and befitting. One is a sappy pop cryathon and the last is some crappy rap TF "I'm a thug" piece of slag.
This said, I will still purchase the OST for the orchestral stuff, even thoughI LOATHE elevator romance music and hip hop.
So, ask me some more questions...

1 - You're blaming Bay for no reason than he seems like a good choice to blame. Poor argument. Show proof that Bay is directly involved in the production of the soundtrack.
2 - Hypothetically, 3 of those 4 could still be faked

1. Bay is responsible for allowing lame human love stories in a film that is about robots and their war. Humans, and their puppy love should be secondary. If it were, then this GooGoo goop would not BE on the OST.
2. Hypothetically, I submit to you that it is officially unconfirmed. However, I think I can rest assured that, um, hypothetically the scores I may or may not have obtained are, indeed, genuine.

Hypothetically, as always.
