I just picked up SS86 Hot Rod yesterday and I'll be honest, he's prtty good, until you try to pose the arms. It might just be that I need to mess with him more to get a good idea of how to pose him, but they just seem to clash with everything they can. And I think mine's got some QC issues when it comes to the thickness of the ports that are supposed to be used to store the guns in robot mode cause I tried one and saw stress marks immediately appear. If it wasn't for the fact that I got him on sale for $20 rather than the full $30, I would probably be way more annoyed, but as is he just sort of sits in that "Well, he could be worse" category for me

I would like to unlock the main thread to use for news purposes concerning the line. If people want to discuss in seperate threads, that's fine but I can't news in 2 places.

While not a great solution, possibly news it to the live action thread since the only new bot in that wave is Bee Screamer? Of course that only kicks the problem down the road for if/when we get a split case with new figures for both sides of the line.

Hence why this whole thread splitting is dumb. It's like I have to split the kingdom thread because it has Beast Wars and g1 figures. Boohoo. Hasbro chose it that way. If people really think they are getting a raw deal, write to hasbro and have them split the lines.

People can have their own segregated discussions as they like, nothing I can do about that. But for news purposes, there is still only one studio series line and thus one one thread where news will be displayed.

I will ask Rodimus Prime to unlock the thread.

Have not tried to peg the guns into the tabs on the roof yet, but in regards to the arms, they don't clash with anything on mine except the spoiler wing, but that's understandable given the size a place off the wing. And only happens if you want to rotate the arms back a lot. Like abnormally so.

Otherwise, they can be posted fine.

What exactly are they clashing with on yours?

Mi only issues with it so far is the driver's side front fender does not tb in to his shoulder in car mode so it pops up a bit, and his right side calf does not tab into his shin in robot mode.

But those are very minor details.

Like I said, it's probably just cause I haven't had the figure for long and still need to learn it's quirks, but it's mostly the chest and part of the backpack when I try to do the "light our darkest hour" pose. But, a lot of my figure's joints are very stiff to move, so I could have also just got a bad copy joint wise. He's a really nice figure, but definitely not Grimlock or ER Prime levels of nice

I know what you mean, I used to be concerned about lifting Hot Rod's arms up for posing and transformation. I recommend taking advantage of the joints that allow his arms to rotate internally as if he's slouching or squeezing his chest. I believe it's called a butterfly joint? Anyways, if you start using that, the problem should go away

Ohh, his shoulder joints are very tight, no doubt about that. Specifically when moving them forward and back to get him into the light our darkest hour pose.

I'm more confused than a baby in a topless bar. I had something to share that I learned about Power Ranger sales that might have shed light on the whole G1 thing, but I think that discussion has died off.

Slag looks really good, as someone who owns Grimlock let me just say if Slag is half as good as Grimlock it'll be a figure of the year candidate. I'm getting all the feels from looking at the pics.

I don't think there were 86 bots in the entire cast. Not even including the cannon fodder from the shuttle fight or the battle at Autobot city. Plus it would be redundant to release a lot of those guys, since a lot of them just got releases in both Prime Wars and War For Cybertron. However, I do believe the SS86 versions would be superior, especially the Ratchet/Ironhide mold.

I’m already a huge fan of the look of Slag.
Like almost all figures, sure, there are probably a few things that could be better. But for the most part he looks incredible. Both modes look really on point.
And I personally think the red face/head are perfection... & not saying it should’ve been any different, but it appears he has decent head/neck rotation!

Here are a couple questions for anyone who likes to speculate like me:

Do you think we’ll end up getting swords for these guys?
If so, how?
My thought is they’ll stop with the little figure pack-in’s, and have 1 with Sludge (if he really uses more plastic), & 2 with Snarl, & 2 with Swoop.
OR
Hastak will skip them all together.
OR Hastak will make a Selects weapons pack that doesn’t include as much as the last one, but may include blast effects that are flame-shaped & colored. Obvsly these are intended for the Dinobots, but will work with any beast-effect compatible weapons or ports.

Will Swoop be Leader or Voyager class?

And really speculating—
In what order do you think we’ll get the last 3?
I’m hoping Snarl, Swoop, Sludge.

Interesting questions!
I would assume the weapons will either come with the last two releases or they'll just be skipped

Now what would be really interesting is a selects weapons pack as you mentioned, with swords and blast effects and a deluxe/voyager dinobot slash figure (not that it'll happen but it'd be cool)

I'd assume the order would be swoop, Sludge, Snarl but ill be happy just to get them whenever they're released

What do you mean by "too big"? The comparison shot probably isn't the best indication of size since he appears to be standing next to Prime instead of Grimlock. Wait for more comparison shots.

Oh, and is it me or can Wheelie and Daniel be posed to look like the breakdance scene from the movie?

Image

Also I'm pretty sure this Daniel is going to be much larger than the tiny Spike that comes with Buzzworthy Bumblebee.

As for other figures, why not just spike and Daniel outside of their suits? Instead of a small figure Sludge should come with his Loony Tunes eyes and be able do a split. Yes, that's important to me.

I have to disagree. So far there's no indication that Hasbro will mix the two lines outside of re-releases which aren't particularly news worthy to begin with. As it stands there's been nearly enough figures leaked to fill a completely new wave with no "Bayverse". Deluxe Gnaw, Voyager Coronation Starscream, Wreckgar and Sweep, Leader Slag. And unlike Kingdom where everything is mixed together as a defined line, SS86 is its own line with its own numbering system only sharing the live action SS's shelf space and schedule, there's no comparison. And really I don't think it matters if they do mix the two lines in a wave, why not make the most of it and get two news posts out of it? It's the situation that Hasbro has put us in by defining it as two different lines.

I always thought Slag should be a bit shorter than Grimlock in robot mode. Maybe not voyager size, but a head shorter. Snarl should be the same height, and sludge should be a half-head or head taller. And even if Swoop will also be a head shorter, he should be a tall voyager and not a leader, since he's leaner compared to the others. Basically, height-wise:

Sludge > Grimlock = Snarl > Slag = Swoop

And I am clear on the fact that height doesn't determine size class. Not anymore.

Swoop definitely shouldn't be as tall as the others, but I think he needs to be a leader class based on his wings. Give him some nice big wings that articulate like Kingdom Airazor's. If there's spare budget it can either go to the other leader class figure in his wave, or to swords for everyone. But either way, we've seen how a tall voyager in SS would look with ROTF Megatron being tall, but not very dense, and very hollow, and since they're nailing the others (at least so far), I think it'd be a shame for Swoop to end up being the one to suffer the most

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think Hastak will justify no sword pack-in’s based on those not being in the movie.
I do think there’s a chance we could get a weapons pack...
And to make it more worth it, it could include a few extras— Hot Rod’s fishing pole, a “smashed” coronation crown molded to be partially placed under Galvatron’s foot, & yes flame blast effects for Dinobots & others.
And what would really help sell it— a battle damaged Sharkticon! To save some $$, it’s non-transforming, but has molding that shows that it’s badly damaged, with removable limbs & even panel pieces that expose “bot skeleton” bits underneath. To avoid “choking hazards”, maybe those pieces are hinged & can be moved so they appear to be falling off or partially torn off.
A removable tail could be made to he held by other figures as a make-shift mace like in the movie!
Lastly, as I start thinking about Swoop; a clear figure stand could be included; intended for Swoop, but designed to work with almost any other figure; alt modes such as the seekers, Cyclonus, Scourge, Springer, & possibly Astrotrain... And then of course to create any flying/jumping poses for almost any figure.
All of this done right & I can tell you I’d buy a couple of these packs!

Here’s why I think Swopp needs to be legit Leader Class:
Across from me right now on a shelf is Grimlock & 35th Anniversary OP... Even though the height difference could make sense for Swoop, I don’t believe the size of OP’s torso or limbs (in terms of bulk) will be large enough for Swoop. At that height, bulkier limbs will have him looking really wonky & imo would ruin his whole look.
If the top of his head (not the point peak of the dino head) is to the top of Grimlock’s shoulders, I think that would be perfect. He’d be just under 2 heads (OP heads) taller than OP, which I also think would look on point.
If he doesn’t get packed with a small waste I mean figure, and no sword, then the extra $$ that would have gone into the designing and plastic of a small figure can go towards the necessary plastic for Swoop, & making sure his wings are nice & big.
I personally don’t see how his transformation could be too complicated, so the engineering aspect shouldn’t be crazy or expensive, even if more than expected goes into the wings.
He may have a few more paint apps than the others, but again nothing crazy.

I find this (speculating) really interesting because Swoop is one that is different than most others— we know OP & Megatron are going to roughly be the same height/bulk. Same with Rodimus & Galvatron... & from there it’s pretty easy to envision other characters of they’re at all going to be scaled well.
But these Dinobots are slightly new territory. They’re even bigger than the Ultra Class from CHUG.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I think Hastak will justify no sword pack-in’s based on those not being in the movie.
I do think there’s a chance we could get a weapons pack...

Those are all great ideas, and I'd definitely get a weapons/accessory pack like you're describing

I agree that Swoop should be Leader class and at least taller than Optimus, and now im curious about what the transformation would be and how much of his robot mode parts would be visible in Dino mode

There really isn't much they can do different than upsizing the PotP release without the combiner port unless they go nuts and re-invent the wheel (highly doubtful). His robot chest will be the underside of the dino mode body and the legs will form the top of the dino body. The arms will tuck into the torso somehow. The wings will pretty much just be wings on both modes, but will collapse down somewhat for bot mode.

The only other thing I can possibly think of would be doing the wings like TR Mindwipe where they become the legs, but that doesn't work because you still need some wing for bot mode.

Too big, too red. Still love it. :-D

Yes, that's important to me.

william-james88 wrote:Hence why this whole thread splitting is dumb. It's like I have to split the kingdom thread because it has Beast Wars and g1 figures. Boohoo. Hasbro chose it that way. If people really think they are getting a raw deal, write to hasbro and have them split the lines.

Wouldn't the two posts by practically identical though? That seems more of a waste and a bore for the readers when they can get the same information in just one post. There's plenty to news without resorting to filler

Anything to not have to cavort with Bayverse fans who think their crap don't stink.

Or the raging geewunners that think the same.

As a fan of both, I would generally prefer just 1 thread. But I'll gladly deal with 2 threads if it avoids pointless snipes like that above at those with different collection habits like the ultra G1 fans and the ultra bayverse fans.

Believe it or not, some of us like it all.
