I agree; I always thought Soundwave & Shockwave should be as big as Megatron.
I wouldn’t care if Blitzwing, Astrotrain, Octane, Motormaster, & Onslaught were bigger than Megatron.
I don’t love that animation scale charts are followed, but I understand why they would be.
And in most cases, I appreciate it for robot modes.
This is one of those issues where some people think they have the “ideal” vision for how an established aspect could or should be altered…. And yet they don’t realize there’s a chance almost no one would agree, and even possibly weigh in and claim that person’s “ideal” is garbage.
So if Hastak were to randomly switch-up an aspect such as stature (bulk & height), it could possibly and most likely appeal to very few.
For me, it’s always going to be less disappointing if the scale chart is followed, rather than one or a few peoples’ (designers’) altered preferences end up having characters randomly overly large or small.

Probably because I'm a G1 comics fan 1st and there he was every bit Megatron's equal and in some instances even his superior. He was also portrayed as being able to stare Megatron down, in their close up panels being at least the same height. Also, I always viewed Shockwave as ranked above Starscream and Soundwave even when Megatron was the leader, so he should be a bit taller than them. But of course animation models are sacred, and we must all abide. >:oP

In the comic book he was the same size. In my mind, he IS the same size.

As much as I enjoy scale, I see it as a consensus of scsle. So, to take the good with the bad, I have to be okay with Shockwave at cartoon height rather than comic height.

See, I always interpreted Marvel Shockwave as being about a head shorter than Megatron like in the cartoon, with the fact that Shockwave could take on and even best someone bigger than him making him even more impressive to me.

Oh, that works for me; In fact it has to, since that's how they've done him in both Masterpiece and WFC. He doesn't get any less powerful for the loss of height - in a sense, he's MORE powerful. Concur.

I've always thought of Optimus Prime and Megatron being the largest (more or less) on the TV show as primarily a means of setting them apart from everyone else.

Yeah, the leader’s size being the largest is kind of an old school approach, which I get. Especially for something targeted at kids back in the 80’s.
This also reminds me why I liked the duo of Galvatron & Cyclonus so much…
That norm was skewed.

Cyclonus is taller in the animation…. Not so much in the toy realm…
Sorry for the blurry image, but you can see it’s not just the “horns” on the helmet that make Cyclonus taller.

I see it, but like Blitzwing, they never actually did it in the show (or most particularly) in the movie -

And the movie had more correct scale than Season 3, FWIW.

This one from Call of the Primitives, comes to mind:

Granted that episode was more artistically stylised than any other in Sunbow. But Cyclonus seems to tower over everyone.

And please keep in mind the illustrated perspective;
Anytime a character is closer to the foreground than another, they will always look slightly bigger & the other character will look smaller.

No offense to anyone, I always thought it was easy to see Cyclonus is taller than Galvatron.

And speaking to the toys, Galvatron is about the height I’d expect a few of these larger characters like Megatron & Prime to be.

Considering what Cyclonus transforms into, I always thought it made sense that he was a bigger bot? Scourge, by extension, was a pilot-free ship. He didn't to be as big.

Galvatron also didn't need the height to intimidate. He had the power (and insanity, post-Movie)

Yeah, and this was going to be a hot topic for a bit with this new Magnus being overly big.

It also is a legit thought that this could be the reason some of these screen accurate figures could be revisited in the future.
*although this should be far off into the distant future.

Seems like Wreck-gar may be one who is still pretty much in-scale with this new Magnus.

How soon we forget ... the last Hot Rod we got was voyager class.

Given the last Arcee, Blurr, and Kup were/still are shelfwarming, if we get voyagers, that would be a disaster class.

I have come to actually despise the 1986 Transformers movie (I used to like it) as well as the Bumblebee movie (same story, but different song), but if there was one thing from the 86 movie I'd like to actually see happen in SS86, it would be a titan version of the ship Unicron gave Galvatron, and have it serve as a non-affiliated titan with a Unicronian based robot mode. I think that would be a neat new item with a little bit different lore to it.

The difference in height of Marvel character designs was so negligible that it really doesn't make much difference IMO. Despite some errors it always felt like everyone was pretty close to the same size or at least within the differences we'd see in normal humans.

As for weird cartoon errors, they're just that, errors. The size charts are all that matter to me.

I think there’s a very good chance that “shelfwarming” can be a very local situation.
I haven’t seen any SS86 deluxes since literally last year other than a couple Arcees. And even those were 1 at a couple different Target stores.
It should also be noted that Arcee had already had a couple prior releases, as did Kup & Blurr.
The only SS86 figure I can say shelfwarmed in my areas was Coronation Starscream.

I thought maybe Sludge would join him, but those have consistently moved; I never saw more than 4 on a shelf (usually it was two), and I haven’t seen him now for a few weeks.
This has also been the case with SS86 Ironhide.

I have no doubt that if these characters were re-made and improved with a voyager budget, they would sell well if released 3-5 years from now.
As far as Hot Rod, I feel the same, only instead of matching some of the movie-transformation, they could decrease the engineering, the amount of pack-in’s, increase the size, and use a magenta colored plastic and paint.

As much as I’m okay with what we have, I’m not convinced that Hastak won’t come back to the well of these characters one more time.

Keep in mind most G1 collectors will be retired by then.
Despite what some on these forums (or other forums) may think, collecting toys for most people will end at some point. And for those near my age, that's way sooner than later.
Which Hastak has to know.
I mean sure, it's past time for TF toys to reach way beyond the G1 series, but look at the waves for next year's mainline...
There are what, 4-5 G1 characters total for the whole year?
And as of now, we know of Swoop, Springer, and Scrapheap for SS86.
I'm not counting Gnaw since he's a PR, and I need more official word about this Sunstreaker listing.
Hound is still up in the air, so while I want to assume he's happening, again, who knows.
Anyway, the point is everything is aligning for G1 collectors to bow out.

I can say for me personally, after '24, I'll keep an eye and ear on TF news, but I can guarantee that after 2026 (and the 40th anniversary of the '86 movie), I'm out for good.
I'm hoping for new versions of a few characters, but if it doesn't happen, I won't be bothered.
Nearly 21 years of collecting (even though it's been off and on) is a good run.
Damn, I'll be 50 the year of the 40th anniversary...
But yeah, that year I'll get more dialed-in on my artwork, and possibly get back to some serious drumming.

Despite what some on these forums (or other forums) may think, collecting toys for most people will end at some point.

You meant for those who are collecting NOW, right?
Well, of course. Because when you are dead, you can only collect worms.

Regardless, that will always be new collectors. There will always be new generations. And if Transformers disappear, something else will remplace it and geeks will still exist and still collect.
That is, until the fall of civilisation.
Come see my latest creation, the COMPLETE combiner team, Scorponok and his Pretenders, forming SHELLSHOCK
