Just wanted to share some thoughts now that we've had a chance to see more photos and even video of Scrapper and Bonecrusher.
Earlier today I watched a video review of Scrapper-- side note, very funny the reviewer kept referring to him as "Scraper"-- and I'll start with the negatives.
It's very unfortunate that this figure is a voyager and has no waist swivel. In a similar vein, the hands don't look great, and also lack swivel joints. The forearms are hollow, and the back of the lower legs are almost completely hollow. The reason I find these aspects disappointing is because it's 2025, and this is a voyager class figure that doesn't actually require a drastically different 3rd mode for the combined form. Sure, this mode has provided an "ankle rocker" for Devy. But between the issues I mentioned, seems that at least one to two of those could have been improved. And if none of those improvements were possible, the figure being slightly taller would have been nice.
Having said all that, I do think the overall look of the bot mode is really good. The alt mode is good enough, and the leg mode is going to get the job done, and looks pretty decent as well.
Bonecrusher is one weird figure... The front view of his bot mode is odd; The upper legs are spread out a bit too much, and overall he looks vertically squished... His arms are at least a little too short, especially his forearms. Then from the profile view, he looks really trim, and in the upper torso, almost looks skinny. The alt mode is fine, but nothing great. To say it's 'good' is probably a bit of a stretch. Another stretch was when it was said that these figures are as tall as Ratchet and Ironhide... We can all see in recent photos that these figures are noticeably shorter. Which is a shame, because these guys aren't small bots. They really should be just shorter than Soundwave. The nice thing is the black section that is the forearm for Devy isn't huge, and for being combiner kibble, doesn't look horrible. But the combined mode is going to work. This arm mode almost looks too small imo, but admittedly, the photos I've seen may be slightly misleading.
I still plan to have the six Constructicons displayed in their individual bot modes (I'm preordering two sets). But as of right now, Hook, Long Haul, and Scrapper will take center stage... With what we've seen, I'm going to assume that Scavenger could have similar proportion issues as Bonecrusher. So looks like the two arm bots will be more in the back of the group in that scene. If Mixmaster has similar issues as Scrapper, I think he'll still be as good and maybe a little better.
I'd be lying if I said these figures are everything I was expecting... As I've mentioned, there are objectively issues. And still, I'm really looking forward to getting this set. The final decision can't be made until these are in-hand, but for me it looks like these new versions of the Constructions and Devastator are at least slightly better than the CW offerings.
Outside of SS86 Megatron, and IF the SS86 Soundwave is a new mold, these Constructicons are about the only figures that I'm really excited for this year.
