Well, the previous MPs set the bar so high that the fandom's expectations have in turn been raised.munkimus prime wrote:Remember when the Fandom would look forward to a new release without nit-picking it to pieces?................No?.................Me Neither.

Wolfman Jake wrote:People are really complaining about Masterpiece Shockwave too!? Fans have been clamoring for this for YEARS, it's finally here, it looks AMAZING, and still people are turning up their noses? Yes, it's probably comparatively simple in design and transformation, but it gets the job done extreme well. Why would you want it to be more complicated, tedious, and potentially fragile (MP-5 Megatron)? MP Shockwave is almost perfectly on cartoon model in all modes. Yes, again, it's got additional detail you don't see in the show, like the tech on his chest "window," but that's nothing new either. Lots of other celebrated figures in the line have details and embellishments in sculpting or paint applications, which the cartoon mostly glossed over, because it adds to the aesthetic quality of the product. It's the difference between making a big "toy" and a large scaled collector's item. Some cartoon designs will look just too "cartoony" and "toyetic" if translated literally line for line and detail for detail into a three dimensional, tangible product. Masterpiece figures are still and always will be a compromise between cartoon model accuracy, G1 toy accuracy, and the reality of engineering and physical limitations. Shockwave, of the more recent entries in the Masterpiece line, makes some of the fewest concessions to meet the mission statement of the branding.
Kick 'em right on the keister! People just don't know what they want. You get an official, they complain. You get a very expensive 3rd party, they complain.
Btw, compare the 3rd party to this in pricing.......TT version is cheaper and will sure to be more valuable (if your into the investment thing) but for those wishing to relieve their childhood..this is priceless!
All this, hey, it ain't accurate to the toy, show, comic in analogy............if you saw what the original Poppy RX-78 Gundam looks like over the Perfect Grade, you'll barf! At least when TF came to be, the animated version were simplified versions of the toy which was already kick @ss for its time.
I still wonder what else do the fans want to squeeze out of this? Add sound effects? if the electronic gimmick is accurate, we all get a glorified light bulb in his chest, don't tell me you need the pew pew fx? Do they want die-cast? I beleieve there will be for him, at least his hip and thigh joints.
So what else indeed as the wolfman posted?

Don't expect a Hasbro release, as even the unrealistic gun-moded Classics Voyager Megatron mold from 2006 can no longer be sold at American retail.Ironhidensh wrote:I Actually really love this figure. I was kind of thinking along those lines too, then I thought about MP figures we still don't have here that should theoretically be released first, like Bee and Wheeljack and Sideswipe and Magnus..so I'm just pulling the triggerSabrblade wrote:Don't expect a Hasbro release, as even the unrealistic gun-moded Classics Voyager Megatron mold from 2006 can no longer be sold at American retail.Ironhidensh wrote:I Actually really love this figure. Magnus should be coming at some point, maybe, but the other three we will never see due.to licensing issues. Hasbro would have much better luck if they quit making the MPs TRU exclusives.

TRU seems to be the only store chain that's willing to carry the MPs. The Seekers and the second release of MP-1 did horribly at Walmart, shelfwarming out the wazoo as badly as Cybertron Primus.Ironhidensh wrote:itscramtastic wrote:I was kind of thinking along those lines too, then I thought about MP figures we still don't have here that should theoretically be released first, like Bee and Wheeljack and Sideswipe and Magnus..so I'm just pulling the triggerSabrblade wrote:Don't expect a Hasbro release, as even the unrealistic gun-moded Classics Voyager Megatron mold from 2006 can no longer be sold at American retail.Ironhidensh wrote:I Actually really love this figure. Apparently. He's not the first Japanese release to do so, but barring direct US translations of names in recent lines, including any "Autobot" and "Decepticon" prefixes, cases like this are few and far between in Japan. Other examples include:
- "Destron Octone" for the Henkei release of Universe 2008 Tankor
- "Cybertron Hot Rod" for the Henkei release of Universe 2008 Hot Shot
- "Cybertron Inferno" for the Henkei release of Universe 2008 Inferno
- "Cybertron Cheetus" for the Henkei release of Universe 2008 Cheetor
- "Cybertron Streak" for the Henkei release of Universe 2008 Silverstreak (regained for MP)
- "Cybertron Perceptor" for the Transformers Collection reissue
Crazy that Japan isn't immune to trademark issues, isn't it? I think "Ligier" into "Rijie" has proven that already
Adding a prefix word doesnt help you get something already taken. Hasbro cant release a Transformers called Autobot Batman. The introductory word is just to reinforce the trademark. Only a name change insinuates a trademark issue and even then thats not always the case.
Sabrblade wrote:Even nonrealistic toy guns like Nerf and Super Soaker still require orange barrel tips.OptimalOptimus2 wrote:I really hope he gets released here in the US. He's not a realistic looking gun like Megatron, so that shouldn't be the excuse if he doesn't.![]()
And someone in the Twincast Podcast said that Hasbro said that they can't/won't rerelease Classics Megatron in today's market, so with that toy's altmode being a Nerf gun design on its own, Shockwave looks to be out of luck, sadly.
Yes, MP Shockwave probably wont come to the US due to Hasbro's own inhouse laws (which are different and more strict than the US laws on toys). Also, it has been analysed to death, you save 0$ off waiting for a Hasbro release of a product than preordering and importing the Japanese version. This MP Shockwave is currently about 125$US shipped. You might lose money depending on how much taxes are in your state. And plus you;'d have to wati at least 2 years to get him...if they ever release him in the US...which would go against their previous established policy.
Yotsuyasan wrote:Hmm... To get him or not to get him...
Based on what I wrote above, I foresee 2 groups of people coming out of those interested in this figure:
Those who bought him at the preorder price and those who regret not doing so.
Yotsuyasan wrote:
Man, if only they would release a decent Deluxe or (preferably) Voyager Class "Classics" style version of the character. Then I could get my Shockwave fix that way...
Still, this Masterpiece version is a damn fine looking toy, and quite tempting...
There are a few, here are 2 examples:

Transformers Energon Shockblast (Laser Wave) Gallery

Actually thinking about it, thee are more voyagers than any other class for shockwave toys (movie, prime, alternstors and animated).
Burn wrote:Looking at those pics I have to wonder, what makes him a Masterpiece exactly?
To me it looks like they could just make him in a Deluxe and sell him in the Generations line.
What makes him MP is the scale, articulation and the cartoon accuracy, which is pretty much all the line is about. MP Grimlock is just as simple a tf as a deluxe.
Ironhidensh wrote:Magnus should be coming at some point, maybe, but the other three we will never see due.to licensing issues. Hasbro would have much better luck if they quit making the MPs TRU exclusives.
why? TRU sells out of the popular mp characters everytime, dont see why Hasbro would be considered unlucky. They dont even invest in the product development and get licensing money from Takara to use the TF brand when Takara releases it. And then for half what it cost takara to bring the toy to consumers, they charge the same price or more. Of all the tf lines, this is the one Hasbro needs the least to pay attention to on a business standpoint. Its practically on autopilot with minimal costs or maintenance, with every business partner being happy.

I agree with you whole-heartedly Mr J. If they put less detail in it, THEN PEOPLE WOULD COMPLAIN ABOUT LACK OF DETAIL! There is a fine line between a Transformers FAN, and a Transformers NERD; I am a FAN. I am perfectly fine with this Shockwave. It is pretty much perfect looking to me.

Haha, yeah, not too many cyclopean transformers. Though I guess he could have been made as Armada Nightbeat for a straight redeco
And Sillyspringer, I never said Cloud Shockwave was better than the MP, that is nuts. I was just saying that there is a classics voyager shockwave out there and I gave photo evidence that he fits in quite well for me.
