3x the cost = inflation x import cost from middle men x increased shipping and handling and the price point is more or less the same as the old G1 figure.

Yes, in my opinion. My only real complaint is the lack of tampographed symbols.
But you could always wait for a sale (Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Spring Clearance, etc.) He's still available at pre-order price on HLJ and as of writing this, it doesn't look like he's going anywhere any time soon since he's not marked "low stock" yet.
And it wouldn't surprise me if Takara will release another one down the line, sporting a different deco.
